| 30th November 2008 kquack | - From: Proactive nostalgia it is interesting to realize just how light our existence really is--at the same time, i've found that the best way to at least create perceived permanence and significance is through reaching outward. opening a door, smiling at someone, asking why something couldn't be better and taking action to improve it...while these things seem small, consider the fact that one of your good actions could catch in someone else's "logorrea" as you call it, and impact them. anyways, i'm not wise...but those are just some random thoughts to consider! hasta pronto señorrrr |
| 30th November 2008 paul quackenbush | I'll be there soon Matt! - From: Proactive nostalgia Enough of your logorrea Matt! When I get there you can just be my official tour guide, and you won't have to think at all, we'll just have some fun. Love, DAD |
| 19th November 2008 paul quackenbush | we miss you! - From: How did this week fill an entire week? Matt, I'm looking forward to seeing you in 2 weeks. I'm working hard to tie up all the loose ends here (business wise). Love, Dad |
| 8th November 2008 paul quackenbush | chill Matt, chill! - From: Quejas You are definitely showing you northern European roots in this entry Matt. You shouldn't let this stuff get to you so much. I'll be down there in a few weeks and you cans how me around, Love, Dad |
| 5th November 2008 Lauren Moore | I got accepted into the program today - From: Quejas I got accepted today. I don't think I would have gotten through all of the paper work if I hadn't been receiving such different and interesting entries on your blog. No luck with Argentine girls? I would have thought that you'd have a great chance at dancing and going out with some ladies. Anyway, I hope that the language bit gets less frustrating. I was thinking I could pretend to be Russian! I don't know. Basically, your entire stay there has been insane! You have done so many things in the time you probably would have spent in the library, where I am right now, and I think your frustrations are completely understandable and worth the language that you are learning. How much better is your Spanish? It is raining here, but everyone has the best of attitudes from the Election last night. There was a dance party in the SU until 2AM. hope your well. your friend. | 29th October 2008 paul quackenbush | Sounds like fun! - From: I still have the sand of Uruguay in my hair... Matt, Beautiful writing as usual. I am going to shop for my tickets down there later this week. Love, Dad |
| 18th October 2008 Mathias | of course - From: Anticipation is overrated No, that's got to be the case. That and the photography skills, of course. |
| 18th October 2008 Mathias | cabs. - From: Anticipation is overrated No no you misunderstood! The hailing was okay, it's the calling part that I screwed up. And no, apparently the cab robberies are a big problem here and the reason I was particularly afraid was that he repeated my destination in a loud voice, which they say is one of the warning signs. Luckily I made it out alive, as you might have been able to surmise! |
| 18th October 2008 Jonathan | Cabs? - From: Anticipation is overrated C'mon Mathias! You can hail a cab! You are big and tall! Most cabs are honest, they only want to rip off the whitey with overpriced fares. |
| 18th October 2008 paul quackenbush | beautiful writing! - From: Anticipation is overrated Matt, I am impressed by your wordsmithing. You must have gotten this ability from me, your creative parent. Love, Dad |
| 15th October 2008 Mathias | si, pero igual - From: I don't have a title for this one. |
| 10th October 2008 maser | EA!! - From: I don't have a title for this one. No wonder why you study psichology or whatever it´s written. Estas loco. No argentinian is eating on the street and you dont do it? Loco, que drama hay? NO estas matando a nadie, dale para adelante, jejeje, me hacen reir Uds., viven adentro de jaulas invisibles en usa parece. |
| 30th September 2008 paul quackenbush | from your dad - From: al Tigre Great blog entry Matt! It sounds like you're having fun. We really miss you..... Love, Dad |
| 29th September 2008 Lan2 | oh you - From: al Tigre What is there to say? Your trip sounds absolutely marvelous, and quite adventurous at points. You do inspire the desire in me to go on a foreign adventure/travel of my own... On another note, you should bring back some of this coffee that you mention so often in your blogs and share it with us tired and hyper caffeinated people back here. |
| 29th September 2008 lauren moore | flasco application - From: al Tigre dear you ! It is lauren moore, your adventure's sound lovely, but they make me wish my paper work was more complete. The deadline is wednesday, it is monday, ahhhh. Anyway, have a great time! I am extremely jealous. It sounds incredible. |
| 9th September 2008 paul quackenbush | nice complicated story - From: A new awkward adventure i like this nice complicated story Matt! Maybe you should go to a bank or something and stock up on coins for the bus? Love, DAD |
| 7th September 2008 your father | very interesting entry - From: Stabilizing... Matt, Great entry, as they all have been. I finally discovered the rest of the photos you've been entering on facebook, and they look great also. It looks like you're doing fine down there. I just hope you're meeting some new people, and establishing some good relationships. We miss you! Love, Dad |
| 13th August 2008 your father | about the coffee - From: NO HAY Why don't you try telling the person making the coffee to make it American style? Down there it might not be known as "Americano", by the way (although it might). You might say something like this when ordering coffee: "por favor, quiero mi cafe con casi 10 o 12 (ounces--I don't know the Spanish word for ounces) mas agua caliente. Or maybe you could just ask for "American style" (in English). Or maybe you could just locate a Starbucks? WE miss you Matt! Love, Dad |
| 11th August 2008 anonymous | - From: "...no tiene nada que ver con..." A few things... 1. Reading about cafe con leche makes me jealous!! Ahhh I want one now. 2. Congrats on the rowing discovery, that sounds SWEET! I wish I had been able to find something like that in Cadiz but alas the gaditanos did not seem as prone to athletics...where might you get to travel? 3. Nani ALWAYS made that salad, and there was always bread and such too. Do they mix the red wine with the gaseosa??? 4. It is bizarre to see what happens to people in front of major monuments. The Louvre was ridiculous. We almost got trampled by a group of Asian tourists in front of the Venus de Milo, and then a woman shoved me out of the way in front of the Mona Lisa. 5. |
| 8th August 2008 dad | good blog, Matt! - From: "...no tiene nada que ver con..." Very enjoyable reading, Matt. thanks! We love you and miss you..... Dad |
| 31st July 2008 Mathias | - From: con "mi familia" (por fin) It was actually increíble, if you want to know. I can certainly understand argentina's high rate of heart disease though. I should ask about that name, though. I still don't know what most of the dishes I see on menus actually are. Also, Buenos Aires is on the Rio de la Plata, the mouth of which is extremely wide. I've only been to the shore once though. That's something I'm kind of envious towards you about, having the ocean around all the time. But one can take ferries across to Uruguay, and I'll probably do that some weekend. Apparently though the beaches here are huge (especially in Punta del Este) and I hope I'll be able to experience that later in the year when it stops being winter. |
| 28th July 2008 kquack | - From: con "mi familia" (por fin) that steak sounds ridiculously gross....and do you know why it's called "al caballo"? the dance clubs are definitely lacking in the US....los EEUU needs to get on that! also do you live near water? |
