Is anybody else out there as obsessed with the new jingle for from the folks over at JELL-O Incorporated?? Oh you know, "jiggle it 'n' wiggle it", with the little boy doing a jazz step with the cow? Wow, they've got a winner on their hands. If I'm lucky enough to catch the commercial in the morning before work it really puts stride in my step. I hear Grammy....:) So Sarah's 24th birthday was two Wednesdays ago, and we celebrated with a little kereoke in St. Louis. Now usually, I'm pretty confident in the tunes I tackle, but lemme tellya. Against my better judgement, Sarah requested I sing her a Jason Mraz diddy. THE VERY WALLS OF THE INSTITUTION OF KEREOKE CAME CRUMBLING DOWN BEFORE ME. I left with my tail between my legs, but you ... read more
I have arrived at the opinion that to see social progress in its earliest stages, watch cartoons. Particularly late night adult cartoons, on . They seem to push the limits of what is acceptable to discuss or present, even if it's satire. In fact, even as young and hip as I am...stop laughing...I've been shocked and pleased by what I've seen as of late. Anyway, just a suggestion for you night owls/insomniacs. Dinner tonight was a can of succulent tuna mixed with crisp, canned corn and peas mixed into a golden, creamy bowl of E-Z Maz 'n' Cheese. Lord help me, it was goooooood too. Below, the numbered pictures are just a few of the steps we go through every morning to put up the set, which is easy to forget is just as much a ... read more
Had to share a moment witchall from our van to yours. Sarah: ...so the school is just down the way. You're going to pass Lincoln, Bush, and take a right on Bennett. (pause. Markuz and Sarah look at each other) Markuz: Did we have a president Bennett? ------------------------------- : ) So our three-show day yesterday was a success. Our first performance of Shakespeare in a MONTH went pretty smoothly despite some nerves on our part. But these next few weeks promise a more balanced rotation of the three plays in our repertoire, which means we'll get....uuummmmm, how you say less bored. Although every show comes to life on its own and boredom is not what you would expect, it's a relief to put to work our hellish three weeks of rehearsal. Now that they're all on ... read more
WOW...yesterday was our most explosive show yet. Between 400 and 500 people packed into the auditorium and we had them by the BA--well, we had their attention. I woke up too damn early and congested; certainly not expecting to attain full focus. Yet somehow, magic happened and I felt more in the zone than ever before, hitting every line, quick change and sound cue with perfect precision. Ok, I lie. I accidently changed one CD which Sarah had actually already kindly changed for me. When the chime did not play, I stopped it and made the sound with my voice: "brrrrrrriiiiiiing!", which provoked a laugh. Hey, I'll take it! After the performance, we were flanked by smiling people, signing shirts with sharpies and receiving hugs left and right. WHO COULD EVER COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS JOB?! I ... read more
So We've officially crossed our 14th state line in 3 weeks. We're only going through a total 16 new states on the tour, so you can imagine how much criss-crossing we'll do to fill the time from here on out. Which seems fine to me; repeated chances to visit or revisit favorite areas...like the JACK-A-LOPE capitol of the WORLD, Douglas, Wyoming. Meet Douglas, our team Mascot. We picked him up in a little novelty shop, and have since velcroed him to our dashboard. He faces the road, into the sun, into the future with the dignity of...Mr. Bean. You know, Rowen Atkinson? Trust me, if you know what I'm talking about then you know what I'm talking about. ANYWAY, two tastey items that I must share with you. In Madison, Wisconsin I tried Blu Creek blueberry ... read more
Some people are ahead of the fashion curve. Other folks can set new trends in music. I am here to tell you that, decades ago, I was into the whaler, BK big-fish and filet-o-fish WAY before America decided to promote this new double filet sandwhich. Everywhere I turn, on every interstate, state road, highway, service road, business road, there looms a billboard promoting the sandwhich I made famous. Ofcourse, I'm willing to bet it's middle America's response to the Lent season. Hey, christian truck drivers gotta have friday options, right? Speaking of restaurants, Sarah and I are beating any cravings we might've had at the beginning of the trip into the GROUND. Cracker Barrel: over it. Arby's: over it. Subway: over it. Food: over it! These days I'm more than happy to get the nutrition thing ... read more
Oh wait...I mean A LOT. Sarah and I drove through 6 hours of rain today, starting as a heavey mist then turning into an angry downpour. Upon re-entering the state of Wisconsin, lightning lit up the cloudy night sky for a full 3 seconds. We were left speechless, and...well, I nearly peed myself. I am noticing the popularity of water parks in the midwest. Big, huge complicated resorts that resemble those transluscent hamster tubes you can buy at PETCO and put together yourself litter the countryside. The plains must be BANGIN' during the summer!! :D Our two performances of Mozart today went extremely well. This 21 minute aerobic work-out is by far one of my favorite plays to have ever performed. It's commedia del arte style, which is a traditional Italian form of theatre. I love ... read more
Allow me to start out by recommending Sanfaustino natural mineral water...lightly effervescent. And they're not kidding! Currently my favorite quick and tastey source of calcium. I don't always have access to good milk on the road or a way to keep it nice and cold, but these handsome 1 liter bottles are a great way to go, and available at Whole Foods. Forgive me, I must've been channeling the ghost of consumer present. Anyway, I'm barely a week and a half into this 2 month journey, so much has happened and to tell you the truth the details are already beginning to become a big bloody mess. Perhaps it's because it's 2:36 AM, and I barely got my turn on the computer...I dunno. Anyway, I'll try and rehash some of the goodies that have already ... read more
