Said goodbye to our beautiful view of Muncho Lake this morning. Just before we left the plane that Jim has on his wish list took off on the lake . I tried to take a picture. Guess you will have to just use your imagination. I also took a picture of the lake to show the green color. In the foreground of the picture it looks like rocks but actually there is water covering the rocks. The wat

I had to cut my blog short last night as the wifi at the RV park shut off at 1000. Jim Charlie Ruth and I said goodbye to our fellow travelers last night. They needed to stay in Whitehorse another day or two and we decided to go on as we have some more stops we need to make before going home. I want to thank all of them for the wonderful time we had together and all the wonderful memories.

Goodbye to the Great State of Alaska

Yesterday we left Glenallen and drove to Bever Creek Yukon Territory. I want to thank all the people in Alaska especially Michael Jessica Scotty and Chrissie for your wonderful hospitality. It was a great adventure but we have many more to come. Last night we stayed in Bever Creek at an an RV park. There was a guy there that worked in the park named Bob. Real character but very nice. Sai

We had a late start leaving Valdez this morning. As we were leaving the RV park Jerry said that he was having problems with his RV. The alternator belt had broke on the RV. Fortuantely Jim had brought a spare belt that would fit. Jim and Charlie put the belt on. The drive up the Richardson highway from Valdez was absolutely beautiful. I am attaching pictures of Horsetail Falls Bridal Veil

Another beautiful day in Alaska sunny and in the 6039s. In my blog last night I mentioned that Michael Barbara and Carroll39s son had come down and was smoking some of the salmon that the guys had caught. He smoked part of the salmon and the other part they sealed up and put in the freezer. Today Carroll sealed up the smoked salmon so they could freeze it. Barbara gave Jim and Charlie

Our campground is full of fishermen. I believe there are around 200 parking spaces here and it is packed with tents RV39s and boats. The silver salmon is supposed to be coming in now. Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day here sunny and in the 6039s. Jim and I took a walk along the bike path that goes along the bottom of the mountain in the attached picture. It has a waterfall fl

We went to the Solomon Gulch Hatchery here in Valdez. This was the first major project for the Vadez Fisheries Development Association which was organized by residents of Valdez after the bitter cold winter of 197172 all but devastated the commercial and sport salmon fisheries in Prince William Sound. Their goals are to produce an annual return of 10 million pink 300000 chum 10000 silver an

We had an exciting start to our morning. We had an earthquake. They said that the epicenter was 60 miles northeast of Seward. Probably about 100 miles from here. The preliminary magnitude of the earthquake was 5.2. I went online to read about the earthquakes in Alaska and they said that there are 50100 earthquakes daily in Alaska. This is approximately 24000 a year. These earthquakes in A

Whittier is the western gateway to Prince William Sound and is located on the northern edge of the Gulf of Alaska. It is a very small town of a few hundred. Whittier was established by the U.S. Army during Word War II as the secret port. Following the war the Army built the two large buildings that still remain as landmarks in Whittier. The 14story Begich Towers is now a condominium that h

I need to clarify something I said in my blog yesterday. I said that when we were in the RV park near the Portage Glacier that we didn39t have water and electricity. I meant that we didn39t have hookups for these as we do have a water holding tank and a generator in our motor home. It rained Sunday night and it was raining yesterday morning when we left for Whittier to catch our ferry to

I didn39t have a blog yesterday because we stayed at Chugach National Forest near the Portage Glacier. It is sthe 2nd largest national forest in the U.S. It is in the Portage Valley near the Portage Glacier. There are several glaciers there which I mentioned when we visited there earlier. I am attaching a picture of a glacier. This is the view from where we parked our RV. As I said we did

We also had s39mores. It would have been better if it hadn39t been drizzling rain. We went to Church tonight and then went out to eat. We ate at a restaurant on the docks next to the fishing boats. Next to us was a fish market t

I tried to take some pictures but it was too overcast. Today was a comletely different day. Sunny and beautiful. Was about 54 when we got up today. Probably got to 60 today.
As I mentioned we went to Homer yesterday and to the Homer Spit. As I said the spit is a narrow piece of land extending into Kachemak Bay. All along the road that goes down the middle of the spit are restaurants fishing charter businesses and little shops. The large docks are also there. I am attaching a picture of the fishing boats at the dock. In the background of the picture the town

The end of the road. We went to Homer Alaska today which is at the end of the Sterling Hwy. on the Kenai Pennisula. This is about 80 miles from where we are in Kenai. Homer is the Halibut Fishiing Capital of the World. At the end of the road in Homer there is a narrow piece of land called a spit that extends about 2 12 miles into Kachemak Bay of Cook Inlet. The spit has a road running thro

Another cool rainy day. Stayed in most of the day. Jim and I walked up to the office of the RV park this morning. The owner of the park has 10 acres here and his parents own 80 acres around the park. The parents moved here in the 7039s. The owner39s father was at the fish cleaning station with his grandchildren. He was fileting a skate. A skate is a member of the sting ray family. T

It took us almost 2 hrs. to get our food. Friday on our way here Jim turned on the airconditioning and the blower wouldn39t work. Jim thought maybe it was a fuse.
Our RV park is located between Soldotna and Kenai on the Kenai Pennisula. This area is very busy with people coming here to fish. We drove to the town of Kenai today. I took a picture overlooking the Cook inlet joining the Kenai River. Hopefully you can see all of the people dip netting for salmon. They are literally standing next to each other. They are on both sides of the inlet. They h
