Allo! Well first and foremost this is not exactly a travel blog "on the road" installment because as most of you know me and mike are back in the UK, (and if you didn't know then now you do... So when are we going to catch up for a beer then?) But anyway I digress......... We haven't written the last leg of our blog until now because that would mean our trip was officially over....sniff! Vietnam is a wonderful country and probably was one of our favourites! We arrived in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and spent a couple of days touring this vibrant city, and dodging the many many mopeds and drinking weasel coffee, before finding out that the coffee beans used in it had actually passed through a weasel....tasted bloody good though! After the ... read more

Sua s'dei (hello in Khymer!) I hope you are well back in blighty! Hows the weather? is it Spring yet? We are both looking forward to seeing you all next month. Apologies with not writing sooner, its been difficult finding an Internet cafe with computers that work in some parts! Well picking up from our last blog entry I believe that we had just left Hong Kong and arrived in Phuket in Thailand. Unfortunately, we just didn't take to Phuket....a bit too touristy for us, there was a million people per square metre of beach. I think we had been spoilt by the pristine beaches of NZ so the amount of sun loungers beer cans and dare I say it lady boys surprised us! Having moved on to several similar towns in Thailand, we decided to ... read more

Hey all! We hope you are all well and that you enjoyed the pictures of us being chased by sea lions! As you know we left New Zealand and arrived in Hong Kong on Mikes Birthday!(Happy Birthday baby) we had an absolute blast. Hong Kong was fantastic, I don't think we've ever been anywhere that is quite so diverse, we stayed in Kowloon at first, which is Hong Kongs slightly grittier neighbour. We had a great time walking through the street markets, seeing amongst all the fruit and veg, live chickens and fish for sale (still at least you know its fresh!) we also saw lots of goldfish being sold in one street, mad! We also managed to stay on Hong Kong island for a couple of nights, every night the buildings take part in a ... read more

Kia Ora, Well, the time has finally come, we are leaving NZ for Hong Kong in a matter of hours! We both cannot believe that we have been here for 10 months and we are both so sad to leave the country that has become home to us, but at the same time we are so excited about traveling Asia that we can barely keep still! Over the last week or so we have spent some time travelling down the South Island, starting at the bottom of the country at Queenstown, where we stayed in a beautiful backpackers over looking the mountains. We were lucky enough to got to Milford Sound (we couldn't visit last time as the road was snowed in!) less snow this time, but still bloody cold! Its amazing how diverse this country ... read more

Kia Ora Happy 2010 everyone! hope you are all good and the weather isn't too cold where you are, hate to rub it in but we have been having some FABULOUS weather (at long last!) I will keep this blog entry short and sweet, mainly because we haven't been up to an awful lot other then going to work (yes, we think we hear a faint sound of violins playing just for us!) but its not been all work an no play, we had some fab days out on the beach, including Piha, which is just amazing, the landscape is really dramatic and the beach has black sand, (which is bloody hot to walk on but bloody funny watching everyone else do the mad dash across the beach!) We also headed off to the Big Day ... read more

Allo! First of all, we hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to 2010! It was lovely to speak to you all over the holidays and thanks so much for all our pressies, we had a great time opening them all up on the beach! Christmas in the Summer was a bit weird..... but one I think we could definitely get used too! On Christmas eve eve, we headed off to the Bay of Islands, which is four hours north of Auckland. The Bay of Islands is made up of 144 Islands at the very northern tip of NZ, we rented a little Bach pad in Paihia for Christmas. We were told that Paihia was a bit "tourist tastic" by a few kiwis, so we were a little nervous that it ... read more

Hey! I hope you are all good, I cant believe that it is December already! it seems that 2009 is just zooming by and I cant quite believe that we are heading into Christmas. Believe me, its really weird having our first warm Christmas, I keep seeing the sky at night get lighter and lighter as well as all the blossom coming out on the trees...it really doesn't compute in my head at all! It seems ages since I last wrote to you all, so allow me to fill you in with what we have been up too since we went to Taupo. Firstly, it was a very busy time at the Zoo, we had a very demanding four year old Orangutan, named Madju who wanted a star studded birthday bash! he he ! (well not ... read more

Kia Ora! Its Marie and Mike here, how are you all doing? Well I hope? As I type. It would seem that Spring has well and truly sprung...although its still seems really bizarre to me to see blossom on the trees and little duckling’s waddling about as we head into November! We’ve had a brilliant couple of weeks, and after working hard on some events at the Zoo we both decided we needed a break so we headed to Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo is an amazing region in the North Island, the lake itself was formed after a massive volcano eruption and truth be told it looks more like a sea then a lake, the only way that you would know your not on a shore is when you see a swan swimming past! There is ... read more

I have not forgotten ye, far from it, I have been extreamly home sick! and missing everyone like crazy, but thats not the reason I haven't written, its down to the fact that there really hasnt been much to report... we havent done an awful lot - well not until the last couple of weeks anyway! First of all, just to let you know those 100 NZ adverts, you know the ones, where the sun is shining, crowded house is plyaing in the background, the sea is such a beautiful shade of blue and tanned beautiful people are laughing having the time of there lives etc...its a lie! well it has been this last month! It has not stopped raining! and Auckland is a ... read more

Hello Everyone! Well time flys, it is hard to believe that it has been nearly 3 months since we left the UK, with this in mind we decided to make the most of the winter here and take a little holiday within our holiday! We went to Queenstown, which is the adventure capital on New Zealand! its where everyone goes to scare themselves silly in what is argueably the most beautiful place you could ever be. For those of you who dont know where Queenstown is, it is right at the bottom of the South Island (Auckland is right at the top of the North Island) it only takes an hour and a half to fly there! Its also the place where they film all the 100% NZ adverts (the ones that made me an Mike ... read more
