No, we did not go AWOL, we just haven't had time to write...We are in Fallsmouth, Antigua. Long story, but we got up at 0400 Monday morning to traverse the Riviere Salee, the salt water marshes that divide Guadaloupe in to 2 islands. There are 2 bridges, the North bridge opens at 0430 and 0530, that's it. The South bridge opens at 0500, with South bound traffic having right of way. There were 3 of us sitting there in close proximity. The 1st was a catamaran professionally Captain by a local. And then 2 of us cruisers, the other being a [View Full Entry]

We spent the morning in Marie Galant, tried to rent a scooter for 26 Euros, office was open, waited for over an hour, nobody came...We walked the town, very small. And the dwarf. The anchoring very tight, we were 25 feet from breaker, ugly. We left around 1230, towards Pointe Pitre. We are going to anchor near the South bridge, it opens at 0430 we want to be ready to traverse the Riviere Salee. We will exit on the North side, the split between the two islands, and make a 44 mile run to Antigua. We heard on the SSB this [View Full Entry]

We decided around 0930 to make a run for Marie Galant Island in Guadaloupe. It is at the SE corner. Very hard to get to, but we had perseverance!! The island is beautiful, of what we seen. Basically a pancake, no mountains. But has a lot of it, we are anchored in the lagoon Grand Bourge. This island still has oxen driven carts and 7 rum factories. It has chess patterned streets. It has a square and a RC church. Which we intend to attend in am. More tomorrow as we find out... It was a tough sail, more seas than [View Full Entry]

We had a nice quiet day for a change. We went into town early after visiting Sol y Mar and Meggie. Unfortunately, we came back with almost nothing. Box of cereal, Nido (milk), guava cookies, that was it. We have been out of eggs for weeks and other things. In Martinique, eggs were 1.95 Euro for 6 eggs. We found out some more details on Dominica: it has 7 areas that are likely for volcanoes. They are of course monitored. The island is very poor. lot's of shacks, like Grenada. Locals bring their jugs to watering areas, for drinking water. The [View Full Entry]

Yesterday was a working day for us. Raymond never showed, boat boy. Oh well, it is the islands...We took a ride to Cabrit National Park, where the small cruise liners can dock. We had heard they would sell diesel to us, duty free. We saw 2 sailboats there in the am. So off we went...Walked right in to terminal, nobody stopped us, found security guy yakking away outside with another employee. We asked about the diesel, after he jumped up 3 feet from the ground. He called this lady, she in turn called someone else...After an hour of waiting, we finally [View Full Entry]

We just came off the Indian River Tour. Our guide was Raymond. This is where Pirates of the Caribbean was film!!! It was an exhilarating trip, Raymond picked us up around 0900, returning back around 1130. There are 365 rivers in Dominica, the Indian River being the deepest, getting it's name after the Caribs Indians. Who by the way do basket weaving from Coconut palms, not like the Bahamas, also from wild sugar leaves. They also use the Roseau, which is wild sugar cane, and it is not eatable and it is not sweet, mainly used for roofs, the leaves on [View Full Entry]

We crossed from St. Pierre to Portsmouth, Dominica. We had 3 to 5 foot waves with a little chop. Winds were 18 to 22 knots. 67 miles! Left at 0700 arrived at 1630. The first time anchoring, rock, or coral, Actually it was coral, but we have to say rock. Up came the anchor, reset it, then put out the Danforth as well, very crowded anchorage. Next morning we re-anchored. Finally only 1 anchor down! [View Full Entry]
