Dear all, it's me again. Maria and I live for the weekends. We try to ignore the diseased animals, rubbish, smoke and local idiots that surround us everyday and break free for weekends of drinking and luxury. I have now finally gotten around to do some volunterwork here in India, and it may not come as a big surprise to you that this includes animals and there welfare.. Friendicoes seca is an animal welfare organization here in India (much needed here!!) which basically does the same as other such organizations around the world i.e. raising money for shelter, food and veterinary expenses for lost, sick and abandoned animals. Hi all We are soon on our way to Mumbai (tmrw morning!!), but I just wanted to share some pics from yesterday afternoon in Dehli. While Will was at a meeting I visited the fantastic Bahas temple! Pushkar, a small city in western Rajasthan was created when Lord Brahma (one of the Hindu gods, the creator actually) dropped a lotus flower from his hand to the earth and at the spots where three of the petals landed, water appeared in the otherwise dry desert area to from three blue lakes (according to the Hindu history). We just got back from the camelmarket in Pushkar to attend the wedding of one of Wills workclients. He is Indian and Will have met him once, however, we were invited to his wedding. In traditional indian style the wedding lasted foe a week and consisted of 5 events e.g halloween, polomatch, barnparty, the actual ceremony and a reception. We went to the ceremonial party and the reception dinner. Which were both located at two of Dehlis top 5 star hotels, The Claridges an the Imperial..NIIICE!!! Last week I had the dubious pleasure of visiting Lahore, the commercial and cultural centre of Pakistan. The pleasure was dubious since Pakistan is enjoying a wave of radical Islamist attacks in its urban centres..but a pleasure it was nonetheless. There are only two flights a week from Delhi to Lahore, both on Pakistan International Airlines whose pilots I am told are all ex-airforce. I thought I would share some of my photos of cows with you, Cows are considered Sacred in Hindu religion. The cow like all animals is sacred because it is a reincarnation of human souls. The cow is treated as holy because he/she provides strength to plow the fields, milk to give nutrition to humans and leather from their skins upon death. Here is a short video illustrating the fun ride i had back from the Palms club yesterday evening..Our driver was supposed to pick me up, however, due some miscommunication (surprise surprise..) he was in Dehli when I called and because of the Diwali (festival of lights) which is going on in all of India (=traffic jams are taken to another level, and that is actually rather amazing, I did not think that was possible..Incred..India). I knew that worklife would be different here when I peered across the top of the office cubicles and saw the top of a bright blue turban jutting out above the desk dividers.
