Hope all is well with everyone and if you are in Canada we wish we could send you warm weather!! We've had a great second week in Koh Lanta. As mentioned before, we're kind of just enjoying our resort, the beautiful weather and the wonderful people. It's amazing how we can put in a full day without having done much! We look forward to eating out at lunch and dinner as there are so many good restaurants to choose from. It's the major decision of the day! We've been having massages twice a week and are getting quite used to being pampered. We met a couple from Cambridge, UK and have had dinner with them a few times. They are about our age and travel around much like us. We've been to many of the same ... read more

Hello Friends and Family We arrived on Koh Lanta after a long journey from Malaysia. Three ferries and two mini-vans later we were dropped off at Coco Lanta Resort greeted by our good friend Vicky who manages the hotel. It was so great to re-connect with her again since we met her 3 and 5 years ago working at the bungalows we stayed at then. We have been keeping in touch with her through Facebook and she encouraged us to stay at her new place of employment and we're glad we did! The resort is fabulous and just perfect for us. The hotel is only a year old so everything is new, modern and spotless. We have a cute little bungalow with lovely linens, spacious bathroom and a king size bed. It's right on the beach ... read more

Hello again everyone! Our blogs are coming quick as we are changing locations in Malaysia every 3rd day. After a few days in Penang, we took a very fast and efficient ferry to the island of Langkawi. The trip was 3 hours but it seemed to go by fast and even had a movie playing. Well, I made my first travel boo boo!! When booking our hotel here in Langkowi I must have accidentally clicked on Feb. instead Jan. I discovered the mistake as we were ferrying over. We just hoped they would have a vacancy but as it turned out they were fully booked up!! But luckily the hotel lady was able to get us a room across the street. Not the fancy tropical resort we had booked but it was fine. The Tropical Resort ... read more

Our trip through Malaysia continues. We had another 4 hour bus ride to the island of Penang. Much of the landscape along the way was mountainous with lots of palm trees and limestone. We rode over a 3 or 4 km bridge connecting Penang to the mainland. While in Penang we stayed in the district of Georgetown which is an older area with lots of history and character. Narrow streets, flee markets, cafes, hotels, hostels, travel agencies and food carts. Just what we enjoy! The island was first inhabited in the early 1800's and the original fort still stands. Many of the buildings retain the architecture of the time as yo will see in some of the photos. Today the population is 1.3 million and is inhabited by Chinese, Indians and Malays. We hit the jackpot ... read more

Hello again!! All went well on our 5 hour bus ride to the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. The buses are sure great here and have our S.T.C. buses beat. Wide reclining seats, feet rests and colourfully decorated with fancy curtains! We quickly went through immigration, cleared customs and were back on the bus at the Malaysian border. The countryside was quite nice with rolling hills of dense palm trees as far as the eye can see with mountains in the distance. We quickly got a cab from the station and with a little searching our cabbie finally found our hotel - Victory Street Boutique Hotel. Things are sure cheap around here . . . $25 for our hotel which was clean, tiny but comfortable, free Wifi, close to the city centre and the staff are ... read more

Asia » Singapore January 21st 2014

Greetings from Singapore! We made it safe and sound after a 10 hour flight to Tokyo from Vancouver and then a 7 hour flight to Singapore on Nippon Airways. Nippon Airways, a Japanese airline was very comfortable and provided excellent service with full service meals, beer, wine all complementary. We even managed to get some sleep! However, our travels were not without a glitch. We pride ourselves in never having any travel problems, missed connections or lost baggage. Well, our luck has run out. Because of a delayed flight from Saskatoon we missed our connection to Vancouver through Edmonton. But they did mange to get us to Vancouver Thursday night on a later flight. But, our luggage never made it!! That dam West Jet. They assured us they would deliver our bags to our hotel in ... read more

We've had a super second week on Caye Caulker and we are cherishing our last few days until we return to the great white north!! Not much to report, everyday is much the same enjoying the beach, water activities, happy hours and dining out. We had a few days of crazy wind but we're back to calm and perfect again. I forgot to mention last time about Belize's emphasis on the environment. They have regulations that prevent the sea grass from being cut along the beach. Hense many spots do not have easy access for swimming. However, most hotels have a dock that reaches to the deeper water which is perfect for swimming. The water is crystal clear and warm as is the water in the channel by the split. This week we all took an ... read more

"You Better Belize It" is the latest Belize motto, and it's right on! It's a really fun place to vacation! This is our third trip to Belize and the island of Caye Caulker is one of our favourite spots to be! On previous trips we toured the mainland, visited all the hot spots and checked out some of the other islands. They were all amazing but Caye Caulker just felt right so we decided to return here and spend our last couple of weeks relaxing in the Caribbean. Caye Caulker is an interesting little island like no other! The inhabitants are a mixture of black, spanish, creole and mayan with english as their first language. Many speak with a little different lingo that is fun to listen to and they are as friendly as could be! ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Costa Rica January 30th 2013

Greetings everyone from sunny Costa Rica! Speaking of sunny, we've been so impressed with the perfect weather we have had on our trip. Other than a few cooler days in the mountains (which is to be expected) everyday is the same . . . . warm, sunny, calm and tropical! Montezuma (not sure about the name!) as long as it doesn't come along with the revenge is a very interesting and special place. It is just a tiny litttle village at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula that attracts all kinds of tourists. There are only two main paved roads lined with restuarants, cafes, bakeries, tour offices, shops and definitely has a hippish vibe to it with quite a few organic and vegetarian options for eating. As well, the clothing stores are very trendy and ... read more

Hi everyone, hope all is well! We're just finishing up our week in Santa Teresa which is just south of Samara on the same peninsula. Even though the two are close, we had quite the rugged trip here! Because of the rough terrain we had to travel inland first and then back down the coast. Our driver took us on a short cut and we felt like we were breaking trail along the narrow dirt road! We wondered where we would end up, however the scenery was beautiful. We also drove by the entrance to Mel Gibson's vacation home. We arrived safe and sound to Santa Teresa. We were a little surprised to find the town spread along one rugged dirt road for 7 kms. Santa Teresa is definately a surfers' paradise with huge waves (not ... read more
