For the next few days, our base is in Amman, a blog about it will come next. Our next little stop is the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth as they say. We hire a taxi from Amman. The main Jordanian strip on the Dead Sea is a mere 50km from Amman, and a return taxi is only 30JD, or around 42usd. The Dead Sea is said to be disappearing soon due mainly to pollution issues, aka over usage of water in the region. The only easy "tourist" access you have to the Dead Sea is either from a hotel or one of the "beaches". The place is also under high surveillance, as you have Palestine just on the other side of the water...and we all know the sad situation going down there. Our pick ... read more

Merry Christmas! Yes, we are spending Christmas not that far from Bethlehem, but this time, it's Petra! Petra is on the list of the 7 Wonders of the World. It shares the honour with Angkor Wat (done 3 times, Mari and Leslie visited the place too), the Great Wall (went there with Leslie when he was 18th months old), Corcovado in Rio (been there few times, the last one last summer with Mari), than Matchu Pichu (twice), Chichen Itza (done), as well as Taj Mahal (done). My first visit to Petra was 30 months ago on a small stop-over. And you guess what, I was amazed. On the list of the 7 above, I think the only ones which should be on the list with Petra are Angkor Wat, Matchu Pichu, Chichen Itza and maybe the ... read more

See the world through the eyes of your child. This is a true blessing we share every day at home or on the road, with it's great moments, as well as the steps of becoming a man for Leslie. During this trip, we have the chance to witness every day through Leslie eyes the wonders of Jordan, and this is simply amazing... For our second stop in Jordan, we are staying two days and one night in the Wadi Rum. We are following like many before us the steps of Lawrence of Arabia. The Rum is only an hour by taxi from Aqaba, or just a 30usd ride. No real need to rent a car here. We have arranged for a taxi driver to drive us here early morning, and come to pick up us the ... read more

We are back on the road! After a great and romantic trip in Africa with Mari in November, it's now time for Christmas school holidays. Tiffany is stuck in Vietnam, but Leslie has 3 weeks holidays...and we are...on the road again. Our first stop, is...you can see the pictures, a diving one. There is not much to see in Aqaba, or put it simply, we haven't seen anything interesting in Aqaba. So you are going to ask me, why do you come...because there is a lot more to see below the water...Jordan may have only a little more than 30km of coast line, it's only access to the sea, aka the Red Sea, the Jordan authorities are doing a great job at trying to keep the coral as healthy as possible. How to get here? First, ... read more

Not every entry needs to be about remote, dramatic or romantic places...this is an entry for the children, the children that are in all of us....this entry is simply about a family week-end of fun! But before that, I was lucky enough to have a full week at home, with few great parties, first the evening of the St Andrews ball (black tie and long gowns), as well as a great party at Koi during the week (fashion and vodka!)...yes, we even get a social life in Bangkok...well, this is only valid when we are actually in Bangkok! Christmas is coming very soon...and yes we are going to head to colder weather pretty soon. But the aim of this week-end was the newly opened Universal Studios in Singapore. The theme park has been opened for few ... read more

Someplaces clearly hit our imagination more than others. I still have a pretty long wish list of places I dream to go, dog-sledging in Greenland, trekking Buthan, diving Cocos or PNG...and the list goes one. Okavango has been on my wishlist for a long time. I had to find the right person, well, you know Mari and I are sharing our life for nearly three years now (I'm lucky!)...the right time...this is always tricky...and the right deal at the right place. But we managed to do it, and what a trip! I've done few safaris so far, from South Africa to Tanzania and Uganda, but Okavango is in another league, or should I say the place we visited is in another world. We stay at Nxabega Tented Camp. The private concession is 70,000 hectares....to give you ... read more

There is Disneyland, there is Dubai and Las Vegas....you like them or you don't like them, and there is also Sun City. The original concept of Sun City was created 25 years ago on the same concept of Las vegas...aka Casinos! At the time, capital cities in South Africa could not get their owns casinos. So Sun City came out of the plans, 2 hours drive from Joburg, in the middle of nowhere not that far away from the Botswana border. To make people feel better, they did not only built casinos, the added two golf courses. 15 years ago, to complement the all thing came a Palace, the place is called the Palace of the Lost City. You are in fantasy, disneyesque or other would say bad taste extravaganza. We stay there, but imagine people ... read more

One more diving trip...and one more time back to Africa. I have spent...as usual, the last few days in RDC having great time with great friends. Leslie at the same time is enjoying his Grandparents in Bangkok...and he his visiting Angkor with them. After my week in RDC, I spent a night in Joburg before picking up Ma'ri at the airport. This time were are heading to Inhambane, Mozambique, 90 minutes flight north-east of Joburg. Our final destination is Tofo Beach. You may have never heard of Tofo. Except if you are a diver. Tofo...is one of the capital for macro diving in the world...by macro, we are meaning big fish. Our first stop is the Bamboozi resort for 4 nights right on Tofo beach. We are 50 meters from the restaurant and the beach, and ... read more

Leslie is now a Junior Open Water Padi holder...well done Leslie! What a week! This entry is about only one thing, the passion of a family for sharing life together, this is what make me think life is so great! I have introduced Ma'ri to diving two years ago in El Nido, Philippines. Over the last two years, Ma'ri has now dived in more than 10 countries...and the year is not over, but she is already totaling 85 dives. Back in El Nido, Leslie did his Bubble Maker...a kind of dive trial specially made for the little ones. But since then, he has been waiting for his 10th birthday, and the chance to dive...like the "big guys". I still remember seeing him in Gilis back in June 2009...a junior diver of around 11 years old was ... read more

Leslie has a week of holidays at school, so we are back on the road. Our first stop is Bali. We have dived of fair share lately, but we still haven't had any proper with a Mola Mola. Mind you, I've seen a lot of them few days ago in Namibia...but this may have been at 300 feet up in the air, or even a little more. The Mola Mola. If you don't dive, don't live in Asia, it may tell you nothing. It is also name the Moon Fish. It is a huge disc of at least 2 meters diameted...but still a very slim fish, may be 30cm large maximum. It is...a big disc to put it simply. With his mouth up looking at the sky most of the time. You will find the Mola ... read more
