LOL! I avoided the crowds AND the heat and by traveling there in January. I did that a few years ago and had no lines, no waiting and no touts. I actually had the Sistine Chapel to myself for about fifteen minutes. I sat and admired Michelangelo's work and was amazed at the brilliant colors. In my humble opinion traveling anywhere in Europe during the summer guarantees crowds of those pesky tourists, pick pockets and overpriced mediocre hotels. I write as 'gunga'. Next trip is to Nice and Paris in late March.
Thanks Ali! And from 2018, you'll have to visit us for some amazing food, amazing wine...and yes, you wake up at 6.40am to be at the dive center at 7am...and at 9.00, you'll be surrounded by great sharks...all over...
Happy birthday Tiffany! And congratulations on the great exam results! Best wishes to you all for the upcoming transition, sounds like lots more exciting adventures around the corner. Agree with Deni, must have made you quite proud.
Time flies They grow up so fast! Happy birthday to Tiffany! I just want to say, after living in the UK for more than 10 years, that the food is not that bad!! (I won't mention the weather, though!) It must have been a very nice moment when Leslie thanked you for this trip, I think all parents should teach their children to be grateful and appreciate how hard things are to get.
Well.....outside of London... Smile....remember my student time in Southampton....great products in supermarkets...but they couldn't do anything with them in restaurants...so we enjoyed great cooking!
Thanks a lot Bob! Yes, indeed, time flies at full speed. Hopefully the preparations are the right one...I believe if young adult share the same passions as their parents...and have received a great education...that's the recipe to see each other pretty often later on...
Your next three years are going to flash by like a blink of an eye... but I know that your kids are going to love your new home and visit as often as possible from wherever they go to university...or you will visit them!
About Diving and the fake Moai Hi man, great post! So you were diving and got some photos of this underwater moai but it´s fake? Someone put it there recently or is photoshop? Thanks for your attention!
I forgot to ask... What do you mean by "50% of the guests on the boat will do a drop in the cage"? Will they shit themselves while they are in the cage or just not get in the cage at all? :D
NO WAY! I have said it before but I will say it again: your kids are so brave! There is no way I will get in the water with Great Whites around... actually, just looking at the pictures makes me sea sick. I am truly scared of Great Whites... I guess it's because of the book and the movie... I know they are not really like they are shown in them but, still... they have massive teeth!! I hope one day you find a Great White while diving and not while inside a cage... then write about it so I can read it, because that is something I really hope not to experience in person!! Super brave Tiffany for even getting in the water, I take my hat off to your little (big) girl!
YES WAY! Smile! As Leslie did put it simply....this is a joke, there is a cage....ok...he is big....but Papa....four Oceanic Black Tip right on me in Protea, that was something! I know for non divers, these words are crazy....but going to see Great White in a cage, is like the comfort of enjoying a lion from a safari car...no standing next to an elephant, on a walking safari, while he shows you his ears...that's as close a comparaison to diving as I can give...
This blog is just short of 10 years old. We have now move to South Africa.
Why South Africa? Simple, great wine, great food, great golf and even more amazing diving! I will for once continue to blog from time to time about home. After all, this is just my fourth continent after having grow up in Europe, lived in Asia for twenty years, and even spent a full year living the life of Buenos Aires.
Come to visit....there is so much to do here! ... full info
