Land of Smiles Well we made it! We've now come full circle and have arrived safely back in Thailand, Chiang Rai to be exact. An easy hop/skip over the river and a rather dubious border crossing in terms of security and we're in. Chiang Rai is more of a “remember what the western world is like” kind of stop and we waste no time sussing out the local pizza joint. We spend a few days sorting out boring things like washing and head south for the next big city on our list...Chiang Mai Elephant City It has to be said that [View Full Entry]

Apologies First up, an apology for the belated timing of this entry. We have encountered a number of technical issues with the memory card in Steve's camera and sadly we have been unable to upload a proper range of pics for this blog. However, we have managed to get a few tubing ones from another card and will manage to get the problem rectified and get some more photos up here soon... Vientiane It's a massive shift in pace in Laos (rhymes with cow, the 's' is silent), compared to Hanoi (and Nam in general): no roads packed with scooters, no [View Full Entry]

Anybody for Saltire boardies? Oh Hoi An, with your 1001 tailors and delicious cafes serving up delicacies of cau lao (noodle soup with crispy wontons) and white rose (wontons stuffed with prawn - ref last blog) - what a trial to leave! But after taking some time to see the local sites (My Son - religious heritage site) and have a few items of clothing whipped up (Steve's Saltire boardshorts are a thing of beauty!) we managed and hopped (literally) a local bus to Danang. Our kindly conductor reminded us of our foreigner status when we challenged his pricing strategy, pointing [View Full Entry]

Day One We're loving the coolness of the mountain air here in Da Lat, a welcome break (because life is tough, right) from the heat. We have employed the services of two of the town's "Easyriders", the regional motorbike guides that Da Lat is famous for, to take us round some of the more inaccessible sites. Buddha and Noodle (we're not making this up) pick us up at 9am and are immediately tickled by Steve's effort to cultivate four weeks' facial growth into his self-titled "Badass Biker Beard", though thankfully not literally. We are delighted to find that our guides are [View Full Entry]

Apologies for the delay in bringing you the latest antics of MacWombat! As you can imagine, after spending a week on the beach in beautiful Snooky Snook we have been totally run off our feet (aye right!) But the show must go on right...so onto Kampot, the home of one of the world's best peppers (or so they say), then onto Ho Chi Minh and the famous Cu Chi Tunnels until finally we find ourselves in the cool mountain air of Da Lat. Really not a lot to report in the way of sights however somehow this time has been crammed [View Full Entry]

Ruins We can't begin to describe the seemingly limitless Temples of Angkor. We were well aware of the gargantuan display of 12th century Angkorian architecture that is Angkor Wat. However, what we didn't know when we got here was just how rich and diverse in ancient structure this region is... We spent 3 days, guided by the trusty Jakey, our remorque-moto driver, exploring these frankly divine temples, ranging from 900m long reservoirs to vastly intricate structures on a cosier scale. Some of these fantastic sites are straight out of Tomb Raider (the game, not the film - althou [View Full Entry]

Bangkok Arrival Well we've arrived safely! Just in time for Songkran (Thai new year - also the water fight to end all water fights). We've been avoiding buckets of water, hose pipes and water guns ever since! Traditionally a water festival you'd probably think that one or maybe even two days of an entire city going mad with water may be enough, but no...this baby is week long. And it doesn't let up...The streets are filled with Thais and foreigners alike hunting dry prey and just begging for somebody to give a dousing to. This is not confined to pedestrians, those [View Full Entry]
