| 28th May 2008 j | - From: Preggo By 16 And Teaching The 'Ishas' also - you said family is not a stable institution? i disagree. families are VERY close and tight-knit. just because most children are born out of wedlock, or siblings all have different names doesn't mean the family is unstable. family bonds are ridiculously tight in jamaica. the country is not perfect, but i don't think that is something you can knock them on. |
| 28th May 2008 J | - From: Preggo By 16 And Teaching The 'Ishas' i didn't find it hard to acclimate to at all. forget what you know and embrace it. i'd move there in a heartbeat. and regarding the mesh shirts a few entries forward, it's not the latest trend...it's just how they roll. it's pretty hot out, so it makes a lot of sense. |
| 17th February 2007 Always readin n listening | Just go with it! - From: Wasting Away Again in Margaritaville... Jus open yourself to just being there, sex-crazed 'rastas' and all. 'Call girls" taking your pics - maybe you don't know what takes a woman down that path, she's a woman, so why bother mentioning it, or the fine idea of sillouhetes. peace. |
| 6th February 2007 Ms B | Maybe you are a little naive - From: Hey Gays, Get Back In The Closet, Won't You? A bit of a righteous rant! How do you know why any one woman doesn't register her baby's father 'for the record', let alone 60% of a population? And do you have any idea at all as to why couples do not 'marry'? I think you're pretty mixed up in making your point, and are taking some delight in your own outrage. |
| 8th July 2006 Tera | Love it! - From: Carnival A-Come (And Gone) This is completely amazing. My husband & I were in Jamaica for just a week a few years ago & fell in love w/ the island. But we didn't get the chance to see this....we definetly need to go back & take in the real culture of the island LOVE IT! |
| 9th April 2006 Elijah | Check Your "bumblecloth"... - From: 6 Steps to Inducing Insanity I know that new and diffrent cultures can be hard to deal with, but you must refraine from misspelling there words it shows some amount of neglect for a deeper respect for that culture. You do not cast Jamaicans in a good light and I would ask you to take some time to adjust and learn about what is making you mad. On that note i like your blog keep it up. Bumbaclot meaning womens menstural pad. Roots in multiple african toungs. |
| 24th March 2006 Pedro | Very interesting - From: Hey Gays, Get Back In The Closet, Won't You? wow, I can totally picture the situation, and even though I am totally against homosexuality and stuff, if I found out someone in my family is gay, the last thing I'd do is stop attending to church, I'd go even more to pray for he/she. And I also thing Jamaica has a huge gay population who lives in denial because as you said, they are afraid of the society's reaction towards their way of living. that is sad.... |

| 9th December 2005 Amy McCarthy | The Joys of Teaching - From: Sins & Museums & Bobsleds......OH MY!! Hey Woogie! I had to laugh because your tale of teaching sounds incredibly familiar!!!!! We are half way through our third grading term here in TX and I have students that have not passed anything yet! And then they complain "Ms. McCarthy, how you do me like that?" Two weeks ago, one of my students showed up with her 6 month old. He was adorable the class went crazy over him, so I got nothing accomplished! Its funny to see how a TX classroom compares to one in Jamaica.... Love you and miss you! |

| 28th October 2005 Stacy | Unwed Mothers - From: Preggo By 16 And Teaching The 'Ishas' I was wondering whether you knew if the government was doing anything to combat all these teen pregnancies contributing to overpopulation and poverty? Have you ever spoken to any of the girls and ask them why they are having all these babies- how do they expect to feed these children? |
