Mike and I are leaving from Paris on the 2nd April 2007 for a 5 months world tour.MV
The plan is to spend 3 months in South America, visiting Brazil, Argentina, Chili and Bolivia
Then to fly up to San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver in July.
and to finish with Vietnam and Bangkok in August.

After a hectic week travelling between Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa, Mike and I decided to have some rest in the beautiful old colonial town of Hoi An. We spent 6 days there: getting clothes tailored (Mike is now really looking forward to his first day at work in his bran new tailored suit!), cruising around islands, bamboo bridges and the countryside in a rented motorbike (easy rider style!), chillin at various cafes including one named "The Sleepy Gecko", held by a Yorkshire man who had a lot of ranting to do about Americans, Tony Blair and the world in general... very interesting! We got the camera stolen at the end of our time in Argentina so we're having to skip a section of the travels and go straight to the USA. Sorry again for the lack of action on the blog recently - we have had some technical difficulties with photos and with slow internet access to boot it´s been slow progress but the pics are now finally all ready to be published! Unfortunately the pics of Iguazu falls and Buenos Aires won´t be ready for a while as the pics are waiting to be copied to Mike´s ipod which is slowly dying! After Buenos Aires, which was great (we´re going back ina few weeks tas it was so good), we took a flight south to Patagonia where we spent an amazing couple of weeks, visiting a huge glacier (the only one in the world that is growing) and then a great national park on the Argentinian side before going into the Chilean side and spending a ... read more

After Itacare, and a night in the worst excuse for a hotel in Brazil, we took a very early flight to Ouro Preto, a charming ex-colonial town with lots of nice architecture, churches (dripping in gold!), and plenty of steep hills! We spent 3 lovely days visiting the town, museums, churches, trekking for a day and enjoying a concert one night. Sorry for the huge lack of updates on the blog everyone- what with dodgy internet access, lots of activities to do and general laziness we´ve got a bit of a backlog to catch up on! We stayed for a few days in a really cool little beach town in Bahia called Itacare which was ideal after the physical exertions of trekking in Lencois and successive nightbuses! We went to some great beaches and Mike had a go at surfing and later did some capoeira (both were really good fun but hard work too - if he had a day job, he wouldn´t give it up!). ... read more

We arrived back in Salvador this morning (starting to get used to the long bus rides!) after spending 4 amazing days in Chapada Diamantina near Lencois. We walked, climbed and scrambled our way through forests, mountains and rivers. We spent one of the three nights in the great outdoors, sleeping with the wildlife! We had a really cool guide called Levi who took us around, telling us tales of his adventures and lots about his family too, who we had lunch with on the last day. Our bodies have now given up on us for a while (Mike's feet are dying a slow painful death) -we're feeling tired but chuffed after completing our first ever trek. ... read more

We've spent a couple of days in Salvador da Bahia - the centre of Afro-Brazilian culture! We are in Pelourinho - the safe, tourist area of the city. Unfortunately because of security there are not many other places you can visit, and no others at night so it feels a bit like a bubble in which you can't really get a feel for the place. Although that's probably not helped by the fact that lots of shops and museums are closed for Easter! The hostel, Las Laranjeiras, is really cool and always bustling with activity. We're off to Lencois later for some trekking and coming back to Salvador for a day later in the week to look around some of things that are closed at the moment.
