After a month apart we met up in Palolem, Goa where we spent the next 10 days or so, including Christmas. It was different spending Christmas so far away in the tropical heat and we didn't really get much of a Christmas feeling but it was still nice. On the 27th we took the 5 am train to Mumbai where we spent about 17 hours at the airport waiting for our flight to Bangkok.... ... read more

December 23rd 2008

After spending a couple of weeks on the beach in Goa (sorry, didn't really take any pictures) we went to Mumbai and met up with Kiki's parents and with Monia's friend Ewelina. Kiki's parents had been travelling around in northern India for a few weeks and were finishing their trip with four days in Mumbai. We spent a day sightseeing with them after which Ewelina arrived. Monia had decided to do a one month Yoga Teacher Training with Ewelina at the Sivananda Ashram. Kiki wasn't sure what to do, so as she was starting to get quite tired of travelling around she decided to take a break and return to Sweden for a couple of weeks and surprise her sister Lisa just in time for her niece Klara's first birthday... So as Monia and Ewelina were ... read more

After taking a long train journey we arrived at Hospet early morning from where we took a rikshaw to Hampi. The rikshaw driver seemed to still be sleeping and clearly not focused as he hit a dog who was peacefully sleeping in the middle of the road. Well, at least that's the impression we both had as the dog started howling and crying loundly. Hampi was the medieval capital of the Hindu empire Vijayanagara which means the City of Victory. The village is one of the most popular tourist attractions in India and the Karnataka state. It is actually listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Dotted around the hills and valleys are 500 plus monuments. Among them are beautiful temples, basement of palaces, remains of aquatic structures, ancient market streets, royal pavilions, bastions, ... read more

We spent a couple of days in Mysore. We checked out the Maharaja's Palace (which we were convinced we lived in during one of our past lives...) Then we met a really nice rikshaw driver who took us around everywhere. We saw temples, cremation places by the river, a shrine that had a tree growing in it, an execution chamber as well as the nearby bird sanctuary. Apart from our dirty hotel we had a very nice time in Mysore. Oh yeah, and we also bought some very expensive essential oils and insence typical of this region. Unfortunately this is all we can recall and we are rushing to get up to date with all the entries. ... read more

We did our tour of the Backwaters of Kerala from Kollam. It was wonderful to be taken around the waters by boat, especially the bit with all the Water Lillies which Monia insisted that we must wade around in. It was funny because we had a little argument just before we got in the boat so we were not in the best of moods, but as soon as we saw those Water Lillies all was forgotten and we were happy again, making Water Lilly necklaces which are apparently worn by brides. On the particular day that we did our tour there just happened to be a big annual snake boat race, so we finished the day by watching all the commotion for a while before returning back to Kollam. The next day we did a city ... read more

We ended up taking a taxi from Kanyakumari to Kovalam where we spent a few days. It was nice although there wasn't much of a beach... Then we decided to get spiritual and went to the Sivananda Ashram in Neyyar Dam where we spent 4 days doing yoga, meditating and chanting. A pretty intense experience indeed in a place with lots of rules and restrictions. Monia liked it so much that she later decided to go back and do a whole month of yoga teacher training (entry to come soon). Kiki got a great introduction to yoga, but thought that four days in such a strict, controlled environment was more than enough, especially as the food was so so so bland and boring. From here we headed to Varkala which was simply lovely. Set on a ... read more

Kanyakumari is the southern most tip of India where three seas meet. We really liked it. The temple by the sea, the big monument of Swami Vivekananda, a great Indian poet and philosopher, and just the feeling of being right at the tip of India... We stayed for a couple of days before moving on to Kerala. We can't remember much more so sorry for the short entry. Except of course we can't forget the crazy fortune teller who tried to rip us off with his bullshit... Apparently Monia is gonna live till she's 85 and Kiki 93. We will both be very successful financially and have love marriages, 2 children etc etc.... ... read more

Sorry about the delay, but we've been busy and lazy and now we have lots of work to do.... We went to Pondichery, Trichy and Madurai ages ago. Can't remember exactly when, but sometime in September. Pondichery is the former capital of French India. We spent a day here, walking along the sea side promenade, visiting the temple and the Shri Aorobindo Ashram (apparently one of the best known and wealthiest in India) as well as the Botanical Gardens... From here we headed to Trichy to see the nearby Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam. The temple area was huge and very impressive, but we were disappointed to hear that as Non Hindus we were not allowed to enter certain areas. Instead we were shown to a vista point on a roof top where we got a nice ... read more
