Boarded the bus for Kratie today and to my amazement another journey without any problems... unfortunately the TV did work this time!!! On one of our journey breaks we came accross the famous Cambodia fried spiders that the Khmer people all seem to love... no thank u! Kratie is a nice little place with a decent market. Most people come here to see the freshwater dolphins but were going to do a 1 night stopover and see them in Laos instead. Star Guesthouse was very helpfull in planning our journey ahead with the added bonus that they had a really good [View Full Entry]

Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As beatiful as Cambodia is we're feeing that its time to head up North towards Laos. After annoyingly realising theres no road linking Siem Reap and the border town of Stung Treng we had to go all the way back to central Cambodia and then out again. Luckilly for us the bus was actually quite nice and the journey comfortable!!!! Plus an added bonus that the TV had broken!!!! Kampong Cham is a sleepy old village by the Mekong dominated by a really long modern bridge funded by the Japenese. Dont think they experience many westerners here as we were getting [View Full Entry]

Very Tired!!

Very sad to leave Siem Reap as it has been loads of fun. Finally worked out where the strip of bars and restaurants are. Had an Indian 2 nights running... cant resist!!! The bars here are really extravagent... like being in a posh area in London only the beer and food are really cheap!!!! Theres another Happy herbs but decided to miss out this time as France's face goes green every time we pass!!! On the way home we bumped into a little boy who followed us all the way back to our hostel begging. Rather than give him money (that [View Full Entry]

you will be forgiven for thinking that we have been kidnapped by aliens, fallen in the Mekong etc but we have in fact been doing lots of exciting things ...... we spent three days visiting the temples of Angkor which are an enormous collection of temples built in the 8th - 14th century spaning 100's of km around cambodia. Many of these are clustered around the area of Siem Reap which makes this the ideal place to stay. we bought a three day pass....(40 dollars!!!!) to enter the temple area. this is home to cambodias best roads and clearest green areas [View Full Entry]

So Goodbye Capital City hello Siem Reap. Now you might have guessed by now that gettin around Cambodia aint that easy. Well this was another tale of woe. We woke up early from the guesthouse which had by now been completely flooded! Coach was late as usual and uncomfortable as usual. Same bloody Kareoke channel blasting out of the speakers. My god they love that channel and have it as loud as possible, singin included hence no sleep and feelin crappy when we got to our destination ( 7 hours later). At the bus station we were absolutely mauled by touts [View Full Entry]

The city itself is not big and still very developing and yet it is much cleaner than Bangkok which is nice to see. Have set about exploring the Palace and national museum which was really interesting but not that easy after a visit to the famous Happy Herbs Pizza joint (excuse the pun) Have walked up and down the river here where there are many beggars but many nice restaurants and bars Making our way north to Siem Reap eary tomo morning , another 6 hour journey. Lets just hope we get there!! Khmer people seem to have a fond regard [View Full Entry]

Managing to get round to see the city. This place is crazy, a capital where the red light and road courtesy is non existant!! Went to the Killing fields yesterday. Had to hire a driver there and back as it is about 16k out of the city. Not quite as in your face as S21, the KF are now a land site with lots of pits where thousands of bosies were found. Most people would have been taken here from S21 but also some directly. The place is quite tranquel more like a memorial garden than anything else. Didnt really manage [View Full Entry]

After a successful but long journey on a real bus we reached Phnom Penh just as it was getting dark. The journey enabled us to see the real beauty of Cambodia. Grabbed a tuk-tuk (yes i know we swore we'd never use them but they're better behaved here) to the Happy guesthouse situated in the backpacker district on the side of the lake. Its like a mini Ko San Rd here with loads of little shack restaurants, cafes but no paved rd!! The citys main roads thankfully are all paved making it easier to get around! It rained so much last [View Full Entry]

well today i finially got the jungle trek that i wanted....actually i didnt but nearly..... Bokor Hill used to be a big French resort with a massive hotel, casino, church etc. it was heavily bombed by the Khmer Rouge and has never been renovated. its caled a hill...its actually an enormous moutain that took us 2 hours of driving to reach the top! we had previously thought about hiring motor bikes but instead opted to do a tour - thank god we did, there were about 8 of us crammed on the back of a pick up truck, the roads are [View Full Entry]

We made our way over to the sleepy town of Kampot which is full of French archtecture from their occupation, Was strange to see European influenced buildings! The nightmare journey took us over 6 hours (should have taken 1 and half). Got in a shared taxi which went horribly wrong as we waited an initial 2 hours for the rest of the car to fill up. I spent my time kicking a waterbottle around the streets with some kids nd taking their pictures on the dig cam! It was probably the first time they had ever seen themselves ina photo and [View Full Entry]
