First and foremost bus trips in Vietnam are out of this world. Every bus trip you take here is not only the most interesting experience of your life but death defying at the same time. I would like for all you who read my blog to please check out Katrina's blog about our bus riding experiences in Vietnam because I don't think I could have summed it up any better haha. Just check it out, you will get a kick out of it =) I told you this because we took a very long and bumpy bus trip from Mui Ne to Dalat (a very cute mountain town that kinda has the feeling of Tahoe and San Fran all rolled into one). Delat is officially one of my favorite cities in Vietnam so far. It reminded ... read more
We started our Vietnam travels in the South and are now on our quest to make it to the North by Christmas time which is why we are now in Mui Ne. Mui Ne is a small beach town on the southeastern coast of Vietnam. Though the water isn't all that clear and gorgeous, it is still warm enough to swim in =) which is all I could really ask for. Because prices here are a bit more than what we were hoping to spend and because we have a bit of a time line, we are only staying in Mui Ne for two nights but that is plenty since there isn't a whole lot to do here.... read more
Where do I even begin? I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon last Sunday night and my immediate first impression was "Oh my god, this place is awesome. It's all lit up like a small New York." Well that it was but after my first full day there I wasn't too impressed. Katy loved Saigon whereas for me, it was alright. Actually it was too noisy for me. People are honking their horns every 10 seconds. It's almost like an every minute of every day kind of greeting that everyone does at every single corner and down every single street. Needless to say, the noise and bustle of the city got to me. It's definitley not the type of place that I could or would ever want to live in. We managed to go ... read more
About 2 weeks ago Katrina and I parted ways. I decided to head down to Sihanoukville while Katrina went with Morgan Banks to Kep and Kampot. You may be asking yourself what's in Sihanoukville that would make her split from Katy...well the answer would be the Sweeds. You might remember them from one of my entries in Bali. When we were all in Bali we had mentioned to them that we were going to be in Cambodia within the next couple of weeks and they said that we were more than welcome to stay with them at their place so I decided to take full advantage of that. I booked a bus ticket last Thursday and arrived there that afternoon. All three of them picked me up from the bus station which was a nice surprise. ... read more
A couple of days ago Katy and I met up with these three guys (one Australian and the other two were from London) and went to visit an orphanage. We took a tuk tuk to the ACODO (Assisting Cambodian Orphans and the Disabled Organization) Orphanage and spent a couple of hours playing with the kids. Let me just say that now I know why Angelina Jolie adopted from Cambodia. These were some of the cutest and sweetest kids I have ever met. The moment our tuk tuk pulled up to the orphanage we were bombarded with hundreds of little hands wanting to hug and hold your hands. All these kids want is a little attention and affection. Which we were more than happy to give. They especially liked getting their picture taken and being able to ... read more
What can I tell you about the Full Moon Party??? Well for starters it is absolutley ridiculous when it comes to the amount of people...we are talking thousands. Like probably close to 10,000 really drunk and really drugged people. Needless to say it was amazing for people watching however, I decided to leave my camera back at our room when we went back for a 20 minute break so I don't have any good people watching photos =( I did however take some pictures of the amount of people and all the lights so here you go! Oh and I almost forgot to mention...almost everyone has on body paint that glows under blacklights and yes of course we were included in that. Instead of paying someone on the beach to paint us, Katy went out and ... read more
First and foremost let me try and explain to you how excited I am to finally be in Cambodia. Before Katy and I left for this trip, we would go down to Borders Books and sit for hours looking through the different travel books and everytime I went there I always took out the book on Cambodia first. Every single time! I don't really know why I had a crush on Cambodia but I just did. I was interested in the culture and I wanted to see all the different temples. Well, after only 3 days here I have experienced quite a lot and have seen many of the temples inside Angkor Wat. I flew into Siem Reap, Cambodia on the 15th of November (Katy arrived earlier in the day and picked me up from the ... read more
I know you will all be surprised by what I'm about to tell you...Katy and I have done more cultural things today!!! Aren't you all impressed!? I think it has a lot to do with the fact that our hotel does not have a pool which makes the whole swimming and tanning thing less of an interest to us (or atleast to me). Two nights ago we decided to check out Bangkok's China Town. Our travel book said that there would be flashing neon lights all over and it would look like a giant christmas tree...well, there were neon lights but it wasn't really what I was expecting. I guess all China Town's are the same, tons of weird food and people eating on every single sidewalk. Yesterday we traveled to the Grand Palace and the ... read more
We arrived in Thailand on the night of November 4th (for all of you that would be November 3rd). The Bangkok airport is a little on the difficult side to navigate around seeing as how there are no signs anywhere and the ones that are around are most likely not in English. Needless to say because Katy and I are awesome travelers haha we managed to find our way outside and to a taxi. We got a hotel room for the first night at a place called My House. The accomodations were alright minus the fact that it was loud (Katy woke up a lot during the night but as per usual I slept right through it all) and the room smelled...we went out and bought some inscense. We got up in the morning, found a ... read more
I know that most of you have the notion that all Katrina and I do is lay by the pool and get tan which, ladies and gentleman, is officially incorrect. The other day we decided that we should branch outside of the pool so we decided to take a shuttle bus to Ubud (the Arts and Cultural part of Bali) for the night and see what else there is to do in Bali. Now other than the abundant amount of mosquitoes, Ubud is awesome. The first day we got there we found a place to stay (Sania's House) and rented a scooter to go and check out the Monkey Sanctuary. I was stoked! We pulled up, paid, bought some bananas and headed on in. I was amazed to see them all over the place, walking down ... read more
