Hiya! How exciting, my first great adventure, I just can't wait! I have totally bored the hell out my nearest and dearest for the past 6 months talking about this holiday, but the day is almost here!!!

On Tuesday 21st April 2009, I am going to North America (Florida and California) for 3 weeks - Spending 10 nights in Orlando, 6 nights in Miami and ending with 5 nights in Hollywood/LA. If all goes well, whilst in Miami, I am also going to take a day trip to the Bahamas.

I wanted to keep a diary of my trip, and with everyone also asking me to send them emails whilst I am out there, I thought that using this travel blog will be a great idea. See you all soon!

Well, here I am at Los Angeles International Airport waiting for my flight home......it seems so unreal that this adventure has come to an end! I have had a great time and it seems like I have been away for ages! Will Billy remember me? I miss him so so so much!!!!!! After loading my car up this morning with my luggage, I spent some time driving around Bel Air and Beverly Hills again; it really is a different world there. I also took a long drive at the top of the Hollywood hills, where I was taken on my tour yesterday. It is really such an impressive view from up there. The roads are very narrow and often on the edge of the cliffs, a few of the bends are well known for accidents and ... read more

I went on a bus tour today which took me to Venice Beach, The Hollywood Bowl, Downtown LA and Beverley Hills.....the part I didn’t visit yesterday. I saw the houses of many famous people like Madonna, Leo DeCaprio, John Travolta and many more. I also had a walk around the posh shopping area where all the stars shop in Beverly Hills and took photos of The Beverly Wiltshire Hotel, which was the hotel in Pretty Woman. The tour took most of the day. When I got back to the hotel, I had to start packing my things together as I have to check out by 11am tomorrow. My flight is at 2115hrs tomorrow (LA time) and I will land at Heathrow by 1530hrs on Wednesday (UK time). I have had a really great time on this ... read more

This morning I went horse riding at the top of Griffith Park, close to the Hollywood sign. I went as soon as the stables opened at 0900hrs and was the only customer there, which meant that I was lucky enough as to have a one on one with the tour guide. I rode a horse called Tonto, who was quite big. Going up the first hill, he thought it would be a good idea to change his mind and go backwards.....but I managed to win him over. It was a very peaceful and relaxing ride. The tracks go along the cliffs in Griffith Park and Tonto likes to walk on the very edge of them.... This was a bit worrying to start off with, but I was told that he is doing it to protect me ... read more

This morning I got talking to a retired couple from Byfleet, which isn’t too far from Bracknell, called Jan and Frank. They only got here yesterday and tomorrow they are off on a big coach tour to places like the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. As they haven’t got a car, I offered them to join me on my seeing trips today sight, to which they gratefully agreed. They were such lovely people to spend time with. We walked down Hollywood Boulevard and then back along Sunset Boulevard. I was able to take more photos in the daylight than I did last night, took quite a few of the stars on the ground. Hollywood Boulevard (where the walk of fame is) doesn’t quite look how you would expect, most of it is quite run down and ... read more

Hollywood!!!! How exciting!!! This morning I had to spend time updating my travel blog, the site was out of order last night. Breakfast is not included with my room here in the Best Western Hollywood Hills Hotel, but there is a nice cafe just off the lobby which is open 7am-3am. The cafe is called 'The 101 Coffee Shop', apparently it has been in quite a few films and it is always very busy. I had pancakes with banana this morning. After breakfast, I went to Griffith Park, which is a vast national park in the hills where the Hollywood sign is. I went to an observatory called Griffith Observatory towards the top of the hills. It has been there for 70 years and the views from there are amazing! You can see all across LA ... read more

I am back, I have free internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today I booked out of the Fontainebleau and headed off to Hollywood!!!! It was sad to say good-bye to such a lovely hotel and I certainly could have done with a few more days in Miami, it is such a lovely place! My flight from Miami to LA was supposed to be at 1110hrs, but it took off 3 hours late, by which time I was starving!!! Subsequently I had to purchase a sandwich on the plane as it was a 5 hour flight. The sandwich and a bag of crisps was $10, (about £8) ouch!!! I got in to LA at 1600hrs and picked up my hire car, which is a blue Dodge this time, very nice. My hotel was really easy to find, by the time I ... read more

I got up at 0530hrs this morning...I wanted to watch the sun rise on Miami Beach. Forgetting that ‘The Regis & Kelly Show’ was still being presented from the hotel, I was shocked to see so many people around at that time of the morning. There were fans already queuing up on the board walk at 0540hrs!!! Anyway, the sunrise was beautiful!!! Such lovely colours! I then went and had a shower and got some breakfast. ‘The Regis & Kelly Show’ started at 0900hrs and I made sure that I got a good seat by the main pool. I didn’t have an audience ticket, but sitting behind the set was good enough for me. Rob Lowe was the main guest today. I didn’t know him or recognise him from anything, but I have heard his name ... read more

North America » United States » Florida » Keys » Key West May 5th 2009

I had to get a very early bus this morning, 0650hrs! A tour bus collected me from my hotel and took me on a tour to the Key West, which was about 3 hours drive south. As lucky as I continuously seem to be on this holiday, I managed to get the front seat behind the driver, therefore having a really good view enabling me to get lots of great photos. The Key West is very picturesque, with the blue ocean either side of you, it is certainly heaven. Everyone seems to be very laid back; there is no need to rush for anything. I took a 3hr boat ride and went snorkelling. The boat rode for an hour out in to the ocean, where it then anchored up whilst everyone went snorkelling in the coral ... read more

Ouch!!! Very saw feet again!!! I decided to walk down to Versache’s house this morning after breakfast. Those of you who don’t know, the designer was murdered outside his front door one morning by a gay mad-man, who went on a rampage after his lover had dumped him. Anyway, his mansion is on Miami South Beach, just down from where I am staying on Miami Beach. When I originally booked in to the Riu Hotel, this location would have just been a 20 minute walk for me, however, after walking all the way down to South Beach today, I realised that it is more like 4 miles from the Fontainebleau Hotel, where I am staying now......and then I had to walk back!!!! Well, most of the way back....I yellow cab pulled up aside me, stating that ... read more

Today I took a tour to the Everglades. I went on an air-boat and got very close to the Alligators. Airboats go quite fast and when they turn corners you can get quite wet, as I found out. After the air-boat ride, I saw an animal show after which I held a 3 year old Alligator, it was surprisingly very nice to hold and touch. After the Everglades tour I went on tour around Downtown Miami. We were taken on a tour around Coconut Grove, which is a very posh residential area, and around Little Havana, which is where the Cuban residents have made home. ... read more
