Pete and I had a great flight home. We took our time to get off the plane. Stocked up on duty free. Then got through customs with no problems to be met by Amy and Joseph. It was such a surprise to see them both there. Joseph has certainly grown in the short time we were away. He has cut his first tooth, able to sit up on his own and is rolling over to his stomach. We ended the day with a coffee before heading home.... read more

Now we are on the last leg of our holiday. We are all packed and ready to go. Looking forward to getting home again to catch up with family and friends and return to our well loved recliner chairs! We had a great day yesterday buying an all day transport pass we hopped from ferry to ferry. Our first stop was Devonport. We had tried to drive into there with David and Cheryl on Sunday but as there was too much traffic we decided to turn around and not go in. It is a pity as it was really the best part that I have seen of Auckland. We went for a great walk up the north head to see the remains of the gun battery that was there. The views were just fantastic. Then we ... read more

We spent a very lazy day celebrating Cheryl's birthday today. We visited the craft market at paihia. HAd a game of cards in the afternoon. Then we went for a beautiful meal on Russell Island (so David thinks it is an island). We are finishing it off with another game of cards. We are all a bit disappointed with the footy scores so far, except Cheryl of-course!... read more

Today Peter and I went for a ferry ride and then walked to Okiato. Okiato was the site of the first capital of New Zealand until it was moved to Auckland. We then made a return visit to Paihia and had a look around the shops And tourist spots. Peter and I are on dinner duty tonight and we are going to try and make seafood risotto.... read more

We had a great day today starting off with a sleep in. We then took a ferry ride over to Russell. We went for a bit of a drive and had a walk through the kauri Forrest. We then went back to Russell for lunch and a bit of shopping. David checked out some of the historical sites. We then returned home on the ferry. The weather has been just glorious. I have included a couple of photos of the views we have from the house we are staying in.... read more

David and I went on a fishing charter today. We had an early start at 6.30am. First up we had to catch our bait fish. This is the first time I have caught 2 lots of a 4 headed catch. The fish we caught for bait I would have been very happy to keep to eat if I had been at home. Then we went out looking for king fish. David caught the first one. The other two men on the boat caught another 3. Me, I caught none! Bugga!! I did catch some snapper though which was a lot of fun. I have included a photo of the fillet taken from the king fish as I didn't have my iPad with me to take photos. This one fillet fed the 4 of us tonight with ... read more

Here we are in the house swap that Cheryl arranged for us. She has done an absolute ripper of a deal. It is very beautiful here. The place we are staying at is built into the side of a hill on about 3 levels. It overlooks the bay. There are the same beautiful views from all the bedrooms, even the kitchen.... read more

We are currently floating between the south and north islands. We are on a different ferry to the first one called the bluebridge. We have wi-fi on board so we are making the most of it. Unfortunately we don't seem to be able to send messages. The weather was a bit drizzly this morning but as we get closer to the north it seems to be clearing up. This ferry doesn't have as many facilities as the other but we have a great seat with a view.... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Picton April 5th 2014

Absolutely beautiful day. Started off with a short trip to Nelson where we stopped to look at their Saturday morning markets. Then we took the beautiful drive to Picton along the Queen Charlotte Drive. Breathtaking scenery. we had an interesting drive as there was a cyclist race going in the opposite direction to us. We saw all types attempting the hills. We think there was about 500 riders that we passed. Arrived at Picton around 12.00 noon. Have had a lovely afternoon walking around checking out the town. Tonight we had a nostalgic dinner (for me). We went and had a seafood platter. Mum and I had stayed in picton 9 years ago to the day as we had gone out for dinner for her birthday and had her favourite dish on a seafood platter - ... read more
