September 21st 2005

Today we stopped in town and went to Dublin Castle, and went into a small church with nice architecture and traditional Anglican style. the national art museum in Ireland, and the national history museum.. the national history one was no way as good as the one in London, there were really limited fossil and rock displays, mostly they were reconstructions of birds and animals living in certain history periods, and most of the displays were covered up with leather covers and so we had to lift them up to see what was inside. It would have been so much better and brighter if they didn’t cover them! Then rock displays were put to the side as if they weren’t very important! It was also a very dark place, sorry this is all criticism, but all in ... read more

Today we drove to Malahide Castle NE of Dublin, north of Howth. It was a really special place! Lotsa green grounds around, and the castle itself had a coffee room with nice displays of castle-y things. We had a bowl of chips-irish chips are realllyy nice, probably because they eat so many potatoes. We drove to Phoenix Park as well-the largest park in the world! there was a zoo but we didn't get to see any animals on our drive through! it was very pretty though. Later we went to Trinity College in town, parking outside the National History Museum. The College was very traditional looking, with cobble pavements! There was a more modern looking part to the college as well. Took loadsa photos! Then we walked through town to have dinner at the Malaysian place ... read more

Dad’s bday! We had a buffet breakfast this morning-mostly English breakfast stuff like eggs and bacon and sausages, there was like irish pudding which wasn’t all that nice but at least it was different. I stuffed myself! Since irish food is rather expensive we decided to have a big breakfast and manage not to have lunch! We drove to the National Botanical Gardens to have a walk around, there were lotsa species of plants there with magnificent greenhouses. We stopped by at the pub opposite a bought pint of Irish lager which was quite sweet, better tasting than yesterday’s Guinness. We then drove to Dun Loaghaire, which was a really nice coastal town! We had trouble pronouncing the name at first, it sounds totally different to the English way of pronouncing it. Then we went to ... read more

August 1st 2005

We woke up really early today-about 3 am-nearly didn’t wake up if it weren’t for Kung and Po waking us up. We drove to Stansted airport-it was magnificent! Typical Norman Foster architecture style. It was crowded! We actually had to queue up to get into departures. The flight was a good chance to catch up on some sleep! We got to Dublin on a cool morning. We were wondering how to get around the city…as transport was really expensive (the bus cost 5 euros a day per person!) in the end we resorted to renting a car-a Volkswagen golf which was allright but not great cos it was only a 2 door. We drove around the ring road around the city, into the city centre and found our hotel. It was a well nice hotel!! Nice ... read more

Today I woke up early, though at 10 am unexpectedly the greek lo and his wife started coming in teeling us to hurry up and get out of the rooms cos they had to be cleaned. He didn’t even tell us beforehand! So we hastily packed out stuff and chucked our suitcases out onto the balcony. The rest of the morning we just spen lazing around there until the coach came at 2 oclock! I was reading my new bought cave of petrolonian man book which was very interesting. The coach towards airport was comfy, air conned. We saw the view of the halkidiki coastline once more, and slept until we got to thessaloniki airport. Plane back to London. Watched ‘Guess who’ on the plane and it was quite a funny and sweet movie! ... read more

Today we went to have english breakfast at old tavern! Only 5.50, and they gave you loadsa food. Shared between 2 people and it was brunch. Afterwards we walked towards the Hanioti town beach with the clearest waters out of all the beaches we had been to. It was really nice! We got sunbeds for 10 euros, and me and JT went into the sea to swim, and try out the dinghy. It was very sunny but once you were in the water you didn’t realise it!! po went in as well and spent ages there amongst the waves which lapped gently against the beach. The sea deepened more quickly here. We saw a old ship ruin type thing too! Later dad came after returning the car, and dragged the dinghy along with mum in it. ... read more

Today we woke up at 7 am and drove to Thessaloniki. Was about an hour’s drive away. Couldn’t help falling asleep on the way cos had woken up so early. When we arrived there were loadsa cars. And we could see how different the Greek city was. We drove around for a while aimlessly until I pointed out we had a map of the city given by Avis. We stopped by at the Church of Agios Dimitrios, the guarding saint of the city. It was a well nice cathedral, with gold chandeliers I think. The toilets at the back were a bit icky though, it was like going underground to get to them. We then drove along the sea front to the White Tower, past a really nice square with lotsa nice restaurants which I wish ... read more

In the morning we went down to Hanioti beach near to the resort with the dinghy to try out!! Dad was really excited hehe. We got in the dinghy and Dad dragged us about in the water. The waves were getting quite strong and the woman was warning us it was quite dangerous. It was good fun though just floating about and it must have been brill to sleep in! After a while we surfaced the beach and dad was gonna drive back to the resort and leave me on the beach while he got mummy to come. But after a while he came up and said he lost the key. We were searching everywhere for it (well, they were) and finally JT went into the sea to search the sea floor for it. I also ... read more

We decided to drive down south of the peninsula to paliouri today. It turned out to be a small village, quite remote with not that many shops. We stopped at Neo Skioni to have lunch. It was a rather bad restaurant though although it was run by an Australian woman. The food was burnt and didn’t look very appetising! So I didn’t eat anything. It was a very hot day. We saw a bit of the stretch of the sea down there, but it was rather rocky. We then drove back to Hanioti and went swimming with mum at the beach near the resort. The water was quite cold and the floor was very pebbly. The sea was very calm as well. We collected lotsa rocks. Found a conglomerate which was cool. We swam for about ... read more

July 23rd 2005

Today we drove to Kallithea where we picked up the car. We went to eat in a really nice comfortable cool restaurant situated opposite the beach. Ate meatballs with a glass of sweet white wine! Was nice but I think one glass of wine made my heart beat really fast. We sat for ages in the restaurant until the Sun’s ray strength decreased a bit in the evening, and went down to the beach to swim in the sea. It was a really nice beach! Me and JT were finding somewhere to change and we went up to a room in an apartment block where an old lady stayed and kinda disturbed her oops. We resorted to the toilet in the beach bar after that. The waves on the beach were quite strong. The sea floor ... read more
