We have definately been bitten by the travel bug. Our job keeps us traveling all over the U.S. 8 months out of the year, then when we come home, we pack our bags and hit the road looking for more adventures. In 2007 we backpacked through Malaysia, Singapore, and Borneo. Now we have set our sights on Europe. With high hopes for a great trip and our lonely planet guide in hand we are off to explore Germany, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and France.

Our last few days in Europe were spent in Germany. We first arrived in Leer, Germany to have a wonderful meal with the Hofmayer family. This was Kevin's host family. They were so pleasant and offered us a real German family experiance. Upon our arrival we ate one of the biggest feasts Kevin and I had ever had. We ate schnitzel, pork, fish, potatoes, salad, and some other foods I can't even name. The food was soooooo good. After a night of funny stories and catching up, we woke up early to head to Munster, Germany, where Keno and his super nice girlfriend Zena live. The town is a college town filled with beautiful buildings, and churches. It was kind of like Amsterdam, in the fact that everyone biked around. We spent the first day going ... read more

May 22nd 2009

After our three day stay in Paris, we were ready to move on to the next country. We had an extra day before we were scheduled to meet Keno and his family (this is Kevins host family) So with the extra day we decided to head to amsterdam. We had 26 hours to see as much as we could and i think we did a pretty good job. We were not really planning on going so we did not really have a map to speak of and we booked our hotel the night before and did not write down the best directions in our rush, so our first hour in Amsterdam was spent wandering around hungry. We finally found a great little restuarant where jess loved her hamburger so much she gave it to me after ... read more

Our night train wasn't completely dreadful.... It was however very hot in the sleeper car. We thought we might go sit in the bar and have a drink to cool down, but they wanted 7 euros for a water!!!! So we went back and sweated ourselves to sleep. We arrived in Paris early the next morning and checked into our lovely little hotel/hostel. We stayed in the Monta area, which was very lovely. We were able to see some sites the first day. We went to the Notre Dame Catherdral and walked by the Louve to get our tickets. Since it was a gray and murky day we opted to skip the Eiffel tower and go back the next day, which proved to be wonderful. On our second day we went inside the Louve, and even ... read more

After our brief trip to Pompei, we headed south to Agropoli, a quant town South of Naples. We found our hostel with little to no trouble. The La Laterna Bed and Breakfast is a very nice hostel for a traveling couple on a budget. We and one other were the only guests, because it is not tourist season there yet. It was nice to get away from Rome for a couple days and not have to jump in front of Buses in order to cross the street. On our way to the hostel we went through the town, and we passed by a pizzeria, which we thought was hosting a wedding, but it turned out to be their grand opening. According to the hostel manager IVO, they were giving out free food, and everyone in town ... read more

For our last day in Rome, we decided to get some more culture and enjoy the Borghese Park. We had to wake up early in order to make it our shcheduled reservation time for the Borghese Galleria in the Park. *You have to have reservation to enter the museum and they only admit 200 people five times daily. We opted for the earliest time, so there would be less vistors. The Galleria was simply amazing, they organize each room, so you are bombared with so much art, that you don't have time to take it all in. I was amazed by the room that was artibuted to the Trojan war. The ceiling art that was the Judgement of Paris was a piece she had read about and always wanted to see. As we continued through the ... read more

We have been in Rome for about four days, and we definateyly feel like we have walked every road, seen every site and eaten every flavor of gelato. We were able to get to Rome about five hours earlier than we thought, by catching an early train from venice. Upon arrival to Rome, we checked into Davids flat hostel, (which Kevin calls davids hallway due to the size and the quality of the hostel) and proceeded to grab a qucik bite at grocery store and enjoy St. Maggorrie Piazza. We were sitting by a fuontain in front of the church were Bernini Tomb is, when a woman with a fancy bag and a yummy looking gelato walked up and sat by the fountain about 15 feet from us. As we sat there enjoying our first moments ... read more

This stop was amazing!!!! Hey all sorry for the lack of entries we are in rome and have been here for a little over three days, internet cafes fill up pretty quick so it has been pretty hard to get on one so hopefully we will get a couple knocked out. Katakolon is the port city to Olympia home of the first olympics. Jess and I had been looking a ruins for long enough so we walked around the little port which took about 15 minutes. Just about everything that could be converted to a tourist junk shop did, so we found some internet but pics did not download. anywaz the opposite direction from the city was a nice oceanside road with cliffs below it so Jess and I started a trek. the amount of wild ... read more

The names of the lizards we saw were a species of wall lizard, we believe is the wall lizard and a starred agama( the larger of the two.) We also a snake on Delos, which we believe is a viper, we are still looking it up, it looked similar to a juvenile ottoman viper, but they are not found that far south. We are still looking for classification.... read more

Our ship docked at Mykenos, Greece yesterday. We were both pretty indecisive of what we wanted to do for the day. We ended up taking the shuttle from the ship to the town. The town was the perfect picture of a Greek island town. After walking through the streets a bit, we decided to catch the ferry to Delos. The ferry was 15 euros each round trip to and from Delios, and admission to the ruins was only 5 euros each. This was definately less than Royal Carribean was charging for their tour of the ruins. The ferry ride was about 25 minutes. As we pulled up to the dock our excitement about the trip seeped away. The ruins looked like the ones we saw in Athens, but not as spectacular. We bought our tickets, walked ... read more
