Hello, everybody! Here is a message from someone who has fully earned the title Long Distance Laura! Having cycled just over 2000 miles, I have made it to my destination, San Diego, where it seems to be true that there are no clouds in the sky - so far, anyway. What an experience. I feel such a sense of achievement as well as something like dizzy relief at the moment when my front tyre nudged the fence that separates the USA and Mexico and I reached out and touched it, remembering the moment when I left the chilly Canadian border 6 [View Full Entry]

Hello! It's hard to believe that since I last wrote on this blog, I have cycled through the whole of Oregon from top to bottom and am now in Fort Bragg, California. We are just over halfway through the trip and I have over 1000 miles on my mileometer. Hoorah! Things are going swimmingly - my bicycle is doing an excellent job of hauling me and my belongings up and down endless numbers of hills (only one puncture so far), and my body is still in one piece too. I had a couple of days of grumbling muscles and joints at [View Full Entry]

Hello! I have grabbed a few minutes on a computer so am taking the chance to write a quick entry. Everything is going great guns here in Washington State! Tonight I am camping in Cathalmet, a small town in southern Washington (we are drawing very near to the Oregon border now) and we are camping right on the banks of the Columbia River. As I look out of my tent door I can see the water lapping only a few feet away, and I am betting there will be a beautiful sunset to watch tonight. After the initial sniffing around of [View Full Entry]

Hello again folks! Thanks for all your supportive messages. It makes such a difference. I have never done this travelling lark before but every now and then I think of all my nice, normal, lovely friends and family in the UK and it makes me smile very broadly. So, I am now in Bellingham, the northernmost town in the US (on the West side, anyway). But first let me tell you how I spent my last day in Seattle. I had a nice leisurely morning (it really is a great hostel - so friendly - if you ever find yourself in [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! This is my first entry since arriving in the US so firstly I am delighted to tell you all that I made it here safely, and equally importantly, my bike made it here unscathed in its bike bag thanks to the obvious careful handling of the BA staff..! and I have put it back together, got it checked out by some friendly bike men and am all ready to go. Those who have been close to the Laura Trip Planning Headquarters over the last few months will know that the safe arrival of my bike and my ability to [View Full Entry]
