Before we go on to the really exciting stuff of our Tuesday adventures, a brief note to say thanks to Catherine and Danny for a lovely afternoon and a great meal at Spurs in the mall yesterday! Catherine and Danny were our roomies in Chill & Surf, so it was really nice to be able to catch up with them! Good luck with your next trip guys!! Now on to today..... WE FINALLY MADE IT!!! We finally, third time lucky, got to go and visit Robben Island! And how worth the wait it was! We browsed through the Robben Island Museum, featuring a very young Mr Mandela. And then joined the throng queing (so very British) and embarked the Sea Princess ferry for our 35 minute trip over to the Island. Once there, we were greeted ... read more

Well hello there folks! Lets recap..when we wrote last, we were looking forwards to our weekend away with Lara (roomie) Kat (i-2-i guru), Mat (i-2-i Oz big Boss) and Erica (Queen Chauffeur!), and also planning our evening out with Lisa and Cliff (Help 2 Read peeps!). Dinner was a great sucess, Lara joined us which was great and the company was very easy going. We went to the Brass Bell in Kalk Bay. The food, as always, was fantastic and in the interlude between dinner and mains, we were treated to a display of insanity like never before witnessed! (And it wasn't by either of us!!!) The waves were enormous...crashing over the top of the wave barrier, and earlier that afternoon the alarm had been raised as someone had spotted a 4metre long great white ... read more

Since moving into the new house we've realised how much we've missed the internet!! So sorry for not keeping up to date with all the events and your lovely comments. We moved in to the new house on Monday 07th. The volunteer house is gorgeous and our new roommate, Lara is fab!!! (She's special too!!) Up until Wednesday night, there were 6 of us in the house. Lizzie Hannah and Lara, and three volunteers who were staying in Muizenberg. We're very excited about the move, as our new accommodation is a huge improvement on the last...however, our new housemates are a little less enthusiastic and have been causing a few difficulties for Kat and Ali from i-to-i! We'll soon get everything sorted though!!! Kat & Ali had arranged a bonding evening for us that night, ... read more

Today was a typical British Sunday. A day of pub lunches and DIY. Yes you did read that right, we spent the day doing manual labour at the new volunteer house in Fish Hoek. Okay, so for those of you that don't know we will be packing up and moving on from Chill and Surf. We are travelling at least 2 minutes down the road to Fish Hoek tomorrow to become the first residents of the i-to-i volunteer house. After a later start we headed to meet Kat at the new house and were then educated in the art of bunk bed construction. We used real tools and made 3 bunk beds (so that's 6 beds all together) between us!!! We had a slight interlude in the middle for lunch at Southern Right Hotel, Fish ... read more

Liz & Hannah's whirlwind safari adventure Africa » South Africa By Lizzie Hannah May 5th 2007 Lizzie Bate & Hannah OwenFor two girlies who seem to manage to talk fairly constantly...today we're not going to say too much, as the pictures speak for themselves! The only thing you need to know is that we were up at 4am so brain's are quite confuddled, but our trip to the paradise that is Aquilla Safari Park was well worth the effort! (ooo...and the food was amazing too!) Take care all, and enjoy the photos! xxx... read more

Is everyone sitting comfortably...? Then we shall begin! Sorry all for missing yesterday's entry...we found our social lives instead! So here's yesterday's news: We started the day with our school visit, which as usual was really good! As Hannah was not feeling her best with her hundreds of mozzie bites, we decided to change our routine. Instead of doing some reading and maybe playing a game or two, we offered them a selection of new board games that had been added to our boxes and spent a merry morning playing! With every game we played, we were very proud of ourselves for finding a way of encouraging our students to read or tell a story whilst game playing! In one morning, we became experts in Ludo, Snakes & Ladders, I went to market and bought, ... read more

Back to school today...hoorah! And we actually mean that. We enjoyed seeing the children again and were overwhelmed by their continued positivity towards us. So this tied us up until lunchtime when we got back and tried to plan our afternoon's adventures. We started by driving to the chemist to check that the welts on Hannah's arms are not anything to worry about. It turns out that all they are are an extreme reaction mosquitoe bites and not somethng poisonous that might cause serious damage (i.e. a Hannah-eating Spider, which was the first thought)!!! So after that adventure and a bag full of antihistamine products we headed back to Chill and Surf to collect our mad American friend for a trip to Table Mountain. We had been accosted late last night by him when he ... read more

Helloooooooooooo to all and to all a hello!!! The sun came out today...finally! So after waiting around for the car hire guy, and doing exciting things like our washing...we eventually headed off in search of sea and sand to celebrate! After a short drive, we came across False Bay and spent a merry few hours chilling out with our books, playing in the sea, playing in the sand and making the world's greatest sand castle! ....Sigh!!! The beach trip was short but sweet, however, as we had plans this afternoon/evening with Cliff and Lisa, the guys running the Help 2 Read Project. They kindly picked us up and took us back to their house in Nordhoek, where we were greeted by their two foster dogs. Once hellos were exchanges, we all took the dogs down ... read more

As the title suggests we decided to try our luck again at the V & A Waterfront and see if we could get on the trip to Robben Island. So after sorting out the car, which involved a direct swap to Colissa Corsa (a male car this time with power steering, no rattling noises and an exhaust that's in tact!!!) we set off on our mission. We parked the car and wandered over to the ticket office (anyone sensing deja vue here?), and merrily joined the queue. Then with a quick glance right we realised that today's tours were fully booked and yet again our plans had been scuppered. Not to be deterred we returned to Colissa, paid for the 10 minutes of parking and set off back towards the motorway to see what we ... read more
