I'm studying abroad my spring semester of my Junior year in Paris. I live in an apartment in the 11eme arrondissement, a very hip part of town, with my awesome roommate Kyle! Exploring the city and enjoying the Parisian life as much as the French life as much as they'll let me :)
Here are my journal blogs as often as I can update them to let everyone know how I'm doing...
Miss you all,
<3 Ange

My last week! I can’t believe it’s come so quickly. My plans were mainly to try and get some last minute sightseeing and visits done, as well as recreate some of my favorite moments from my time here. Starting on Monday, before our last economics class, I went with my friend Jessica to a little creperie we stumbled upon while working on a project near the Jardins du Luxembourg. After lunch and class, I went home and grudgingly started to pack. The next day I had my full day of language class and architecture, with lunch at the local Café du Metro, my favorite dish of salmon and tagliatelle. I wasn’t feeling too good, but I went out to Montmartre and walked around taking some last minute pictures with my manual camera in black and white. ... read more

I left off on Tuesday having taken my fabulous (not so much in reality) architecture test, followed by the regular student's night at FnP. The next day I was able to meet Thomas, Maggie's Parisian boyfriend (they met in Dublin and he's been helping me with everything Paris/French) and have tea and walk around the Buttes Chaumont in the 19th arrondissement. Very cool park and nice conversation with the company! From there I went to a barbeque that I was invited by my Swedish friend. She warned me that we would be the only women there, however walking into a room of 20 computer engineers I was a bit shocked still haha. Of course they all mainly spoke French, so it was very interesting watching everyone interact and it took a long time into the evening ... read more

Oh it's been a long few weeks!! Afters Reims I was able to relax for a while and get into the final swing of ending the semester. The last few weeks were a bit boring but I'm doing as much as possible in my last 3 weeks left :( That Thursday I went to the qualification round of the French Open at Roland Garros, which was very worth it! I had a great time and got to take a picture with one of the winning tennis players, Rick de Voest from South Africa. Friday I had some people over for a small dinner get together and watched Office Space, followed by Breakfast In America the next day. A small American Diner in the Bastille, it was nice to get a good omelette, but it still had ... read more

What an exhausting week with Antonio.. but once I picked up my close friend Herbie from the bus station everything seemed to be better! I had one of the longest days ever, running around to school and meeting up for lunch at the Jardins du Luxembourg and after class walking around the Canal St. Martin was pretty cool and relaxing over a nice meal. Wednesdays I don't have class so we woke up for some crepes down the street and went to Les Invalides and saw Napoleon's tomb and the military monument of Paris, followed by a walk to the Louvre. After seeing the grand works of art of Mona Lisa (La Jaconde), Venus de Milo, the Slaves by Michelangelo, Pysche and Cupid, Winged Victory, and John the Baptist, we randomly met 3 friends of ours ... read more

And I can finally relax. Prior to my week and weekend trip, I took advantage of free museum Sunday and prepared myself for all of the work coming up in the last month of classes. My friend from Nevada, Antonio came to visit last week and between Rome and sightseeing Paris I am ridiculously exhausted. He arrived early Tuesday morning, and after long instructions on how to make it back to Gare du Nord, we finally met up and figured out the rest of our day. I showed him around Odeon and St. Michel with the Notre Dame, and woke up early for our flight to Milano. We arrived in Italy and decided to get a train directly to Roma, so I was a bit sad that I didn't get to see much of Milano that ... read more

My friend Damir was right when he said I'd never want to leave Portugal! Just got back from the long weekend and Portugal was by far my favorite trip I've taken. I saw a total of 8 cities and had an unexpectedly amazing time. Even the pictures don't do the actual scenery justice-it was that beautiful there. The city of Lisbon was so eclectic in that it had its ancient buildings on one side of town, and modern masterpieces on the other from the world exposition some decade ago. I arrived painfully early Saturday morning to our hostel where I met my Belgian friends Fabian and Yosef. We all ended up having to switch buildings, but luckily they put us more centrally located in Lisbon and in a very nice building. All of us got settled ... read more

So I got back late Monday, and began to plan out my first week of Spring Break while enjoying my favorite city in the world! Tuesday, I had heard a lot of one of the parks on the outskirts of Paris: Bois de Boulogne in the 16th arrondissement. There the Hippodrome is located, oh those crazy French gamblers hehe. The park is gorgeous and used to be the hunting grounds for the royalty, and is expansive and suprisingly still Paris. Parisian streets are exactly what you think of: gothic gargoyles mingling with the models on the street corners and harboring tiny little marble courts with majestic ancient statues. However, since I've spent a lot of time seeing the main attractions, it was nice to see another side of Paris with lush gardens and ponds and free ... read more

Hmm where did I leave off? Last week was somewhat uneventful.. had 3 tests which were not so fun. I finished my midterms and got over being sick eventually. Most people were leaving for Spring Break so I was hung out with them to say goodbye and whatnot. Friday morning I left for Berlin. Not speaking an ounce of German, my friend Nick met me at the airport and from there we started a good day of sightseeing. I saw the Brandenburg Gate, the hotel where Michael Jackson dangled his baby (sad reference but popular nonetheless) and a museum with very cool ancient Egyptian artifacts. The monument to the burning books was unlike anything I'd ever seen- it was transparent glass over a room of empty bookshelves in the middle of a street square. We looked ... read more

Hi everyone! Last week I had tests and went to a very fun salsa and swing dance class at a dance club, which proved to be a lot of fun. Wednesday I visited the French headquarters of Amnesty International, a learning trip but a good experience nonetheless. On Saturday, our program took us on our last trip which was to eastern France in Strausborg. We checked into the hotel and went on a brief walking tour of the city, which was really nice because of the river running through it and the style of the buildings. The Cathedral in particular was really gorgeous to see because of its strikingly gothic attributes against the little villages in the backdrop. We enjoyed free time after and had a nice dinner at a restaurant. The next morning they took ... read more

"For as long as a hundred of us remain alive, never will be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself" ~ Scottish quote This was my favorite quote that I saw many times this weekend and it was pretty impacting. It's been a long and difficult week, but remembering all of the love from friends and family the sun has been shining just a bit brighter in Paris. Last week I did a lot of homework for classes and whatnot, but mostly preparing for the weekend. I won the battle with my school's financial aid office which was quite a success, and was really happy to get a ... read more
