From Cairns, I caught a bus south to Townsville; then I took a 30 min ferry across to Magnetic Island. I stayed at Base hostel and it was so beautiful! My first full day on Magnetic Island and I headed to Horseshoe Bay to do some hikes. The first hike was a 1.5 hour walk to Balding Bay, where there was some beautiful forests and rock formations; part of the forest had recently burned and was all black. It was a beautiful Bay. I went for a little swim then headed off to Radical Bay. Another beautiful bay with amazing blue water, forests and rocks. After making it back to town and having some lunch I was off to the Forts walks and to hopefully find some koalas. The walk was amazing and overlooked a few ... read more

After returning from Bali I had a few more days in Darwin. I spent one day at Litchfield Nat'l Park and on a Crocodile Cruise. Our tour left Darwin and drove south to the Adelaide River. Here we boarded a tiny little boat to spend some time up close and personal with some Crocs. We fed a few crocs, a White Bellied Sea Eagle, and some Kites. Amazing!! Some of the Crocs we fed were longer than the boat. Our guide attached a chunk of chicken to a stick and held it over the water until the crocs would jump for it. Crazy!! The crocs were coming 8ft out of the water!! Then we went into Litchfield Nat'l Park and stopped at and swam in a few watering holes and waterfalls. Beautiful and tons of fun! ... read more

For all the pictures from this part of the trip: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2321085&id=16912798&l=e3d2e60f27 After being able to sleep in for 4 days, I had to get up early to leave the lovely town of Broome and head towards Darwin. Our first stop was to see the Prison Boab Tree. It was used as a "prison cell" in the 1890s by the local police to lock up Aboriginal prisoners over night, on their way to Derby for sentencing. Our next stop was Windjana Gorge Nat'l Park. The Napier range is an ancient reef system that was pushed up into mountains. You can still see some coral in the rock. At Windjana Gorge we saw some freshwater crocs! Winjana Gorge was a starting point for an Indigenous man who ended up becoming an outlaw in the eyes of the Europeans. ... read more

I leave the familiar country of Australia to go somewhere completely different and strange to me... Bali, Indonesia. Maartje and I get money out at the airport... What's the exchange rate here?? How much money am I even taking out?? Haha, confused already. We learned later that the exchange is 10,000 rupiah to $USD1... this is awesome! We headed outside to catch a cab: 50,000 Rp and that was expensive. We get to Kuta and after a little confusion we finally found our room and settled in. (You can't book the cheap hotels online so we were relying on our friends to book us in and the people at the counter couldn't find us.) A quick stop at the store and we met up with Tates and Lucie and were on our way out to town ... read more

For more pictures from this leg of my trip check out the link... http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2318214&id=16912798&l=86b3acb5c7 Wednesday morning, Rowan dropped me off in Perth so I could catch the bus at 7am. We drove a few hours north through some rain to Nambung National Park, where we walked around and looked at Pinnacle Desert. They think the formation were caused due to acidic water disolving the limestone in the soil around areas where trees were growing. It was very interesting!! This is a view looking at the Pinnacles. After lunch we headed to some sand dunes near Geralton for some sandboarding. Harder than it sounds! It's like snowboarding but on sand dunes with nothing holding your feet on the board. I had some very impressive wipeouts and tore an 8 inch hole up my pants. Haha. A good ... read more

Rowan and I spent Sunday at a few different beaches watching surfing, eating and drinking beer. It was a beautiful day; I wish our "winters" were this nice! Monday I did some shopping and had a quick tour of Fremantle, or Freo. Rowan and I drove around then stopped in at Little Creature's Brewery for some beer and to soak up the sun. I decided to spend Tuesday and Wednesday exploring Perth. I spent most of Tuesday in the City Centre and out at the pier. I stopped in at the Bell Tower which houses the Swan Bells. The view from the top viewing tower was the most interesting part, although the building itself was pretty cool too. Wednesday was my day for King's Park. King's Park is HUGE! I walked around for 4 hours through ... read more

So here I am... finally! After nearly 48 hours of travel I made it to Australia! I still can't believe I am here. I think once the sun comes up and I can see the country it might sink in. I arrived last night and was picked up by Rowan at 6pm after two long flights and a nine hour layover in Auckland. (I know Rowan from Glenfield Rugby Club and I'm staying with him and his uncle for the time being) It was better than it sounds since I slept a majority of the time on the planes and I got to catch up with some old friends in NZ. I can't believe its been almost 2.5 years since I'd seen any of them. Fee, Ash, and Tay picked me up from the Auckland Airport ... read more

9 Days Left til I leave for Australia It seems like there is too much to do... Where to start? Transfer money, Health Insurance, Pack, Clean??? I still have about 10 people I haven't seen yet. I still can't believe I'm actually moving to the other side of the world! Haha! The map shows my trip when I leave. A 13 hour flight to Auckland, a 9 hour layover, then a 8 hour flight to Perth. It's going to be a long day. I guess there's no better way to start off then with a picture of my first time in Aus. I can only hope this time is just as much fun! Leaving Tomorrow Saying goodbye to the family over lunch! Tomorrow my Mom and Dad will take me to the airport and send me ... read more
