Ah El Nido...we hired a boat for the day and did some island hopping...they have some spectacular scenery there. My favourite was a beach called secret beach, where you had to find the small small hole in the limestone cliff to swim through (its about big enough for 1 person ) which then takes you to a inland lagoon and a cute little beach. We also saw some reef sharks and a sea snake while snorkeling. Back on land, we met a Aussie couple and a local lady boy called Olivia and went partying all night at the only bar there....and had a few too many red horse (super strength 7%) beers. Felt rusty the next day! Our next destination was furthar up the coast of Palawan to Coron, so we took a local cargo boat ... read more

We flew from Manilla to the Island of Palawan, they call it the last frontier of the Philippines as it is the place yet to be very developed. Flying with Cebu Pacific Airlines was a absolute cack, the air hostesses got on the PA system and started singing some songs...the game was name that tune, and which ever passenger guessed it correctly first, won a prize. Could only happen in Asia, hilarious! We landed in Puerto Princessa, the capital. Andrew and i hired a bike and drove a few hours to the famous subterranean river in Sabang. The scenery on the drive was spectacular...little villages, rice paddies and then high limestone cliffs jutting into the sky. The river itself was very impressive, it is a 8km long underground river in a cave, and we took a ... read more

Well, Manila, what can I say! It all started when flying into the city. I must say flying is not my favorite thing, makes me quite nervous (a mixture of my mums paranoia and too many episodes of air crash investigations) We are coming into land, slowing down and nearly on the ground, when all of a sudden the plane engines accelerated and we zoom back up into the sky, aborting the landing. We came in again and landed safely the 2nd time..Have no idea what happened, they never told us! The traffic in Manilla is ridiculous..it took us nearly 4 hours to get from Manila airport to the city, just becuase the traffic was so horrendous! We knew that Manila is a little more dodgy than other Asian cities, but we did not expect there ... read more

We fly into Tawua in Borneo, to make our way to what I was looking forward to the most on our trip...Diving at Sipadan island. Sipadan island is ranked in the top 5 scuba dive sites in the world due to its diverse marine life. They have closed the island to resorts and tourists, so you require a permit to dive there, and only so many are given per day. We managed to find a place that had a permit available in a couple of days - Uncle Changs. We got a boat to the island of Mabul to stay at Uncle Changs for a few days. I was very impressed when i arrived...Uncle Changs was a little wooden village on stilts above the water, looking out over the Celebes sea. Very chilled out and beautiful ... read more

Will recap on Maylasia, though memory may be a little scratchy as we arrived a month ago. Flew into island of Penang, and found a little hostel in Georgetown. The first thing that struck us about this place was how amazingly friendly the people were. Of course, we have always found the peopel in Asia to be very lovely, friendly and helpful, but in penang, it seemed even more so. People would stop us on the street to have a chat...in Thailand, this normally means it is going to lead to a attempted sale of something at the end of the conversation so we were waiting for it in Penang...but it never came! people were just genuinly curious about who we were and where we came from. Met a Indian local who had a cafe called ... read more

Well we have been on the road traveling for 5 weeks now, but has only just occurred to me to use this instead of a travel diary so will try to do a quick recap! Flew into Bangkok, it is the 6th time we have been there now, and immediately we headed for our favorite haunts for some amazing local food from a street cart, (pad Thai, mmm) and then for a few cold Chang beer ($2 for a long neck...bloody cheaper than Sydney!) It makes me laugh how the Chang label states it contains 'at least' 6.4% alcohol lol. After a few days headed to Ko Chang, we did not go to this island on our last trip. We met some cool people, from the UK and spent most nights with them enjoying changs and ... read more
