Have made it to my final destination - Thailand - and am having a fantastic time. Nepal seems like so long ago, but it was only a week ago I spent my final day in Kathmandu Guest House drinking my Everest Beers with the trekkers.. Am still here, in Pokhara, and am finding it quite hard to leave really. Since I returned from the trek, I have settled into the place - well to Lakeside, which is unsurprisingly the section of town that lines the side of the lake, and home of touristland, and stayed within that 2 mile square. The trek seems like a distant memory now, I just reread my blog to remind myself. A week ago I was getting ready to leave to go on my "trek" and, as ever, updated my facebook status before I left, something along the lines of "Lisa is off trekking, which is the same as walking..." This may have been slightly naive, and with hindsight I realise I should maybe have written something like "Lisa is off trekking, which is the same as walking... on a stairmaster - level 12, with hiking boots, 2 pairs of trousers, 4 tops, a fleece, scarf, hat, mittens, carrying a rucksack and in hail and snow". Today is Sunday, and I am in Pokahra - Nepal's second city - sizewise, and touristwise I think.. It is a lovely lakeside city, and is pretty much known and the start and end of point of several trekking routes as far as I can make out. Except Everest ones - which I am wisely decided to opt out of - it's till pretty cold up there, and I am more a walk from one side of the pub to the toilet person, so am staying within realistic boundaries. I am back again in Delhi after another lovely week in Rishikesh. Things continued in the same vein for another week- the panchakarma continued, with more massages and then some oil based hosepipe action which i am no stranger too.. I felt better and better as the days went on- what with that, the daily yoga, the 10 hours a night sleeping.. it was bliss. The guest house was brilliant and totally made the trip really. I have been settled in Rishikesh for a week now - and it really is the most beautiful place - I am happy that I am spending my last 2 weeks in India here, and especially happy that I can experience this place at the end of my India trip when I am feeling so relaxed. I am not officially in Rishikesh - I am in a suburb called Laxman Jhula which is about 2 km further up then Ganges river. Since I last wrote I have travelled from south to north india, and my god am I feeling the difference. Firstly I left Kerala and flew to Bangalore to meet friend Jane, who picked me up at the airport. Was lovely to see a friend from home when so far out here, but in a way it was not weird at all.. Jane had sorted us out with a very swanky studio apartment (serviced apartment, for business types) in central Bangalore, which was very swish, and had a rooftop pool with views over the city. Today is my last day in Kerala. I am leaving early tomorrow morning to fly to Bangalore to meet Jane for a few days, then heading back to Delhi on Saturday and have 4 weeks left of my visa in which to try to see some of the more northern cities - weather permitting. Hello hello - it's been a while, sorry... So am now week 3 into the yoga course. Things are going very well and am really enjoying it. Even the stern teacher gives the odd grunt of approval when I show signs of progress. I still couldnt tell you the names of any of the poses really, but I can pretty much chant without peeking at the words and even have my own regular space in the room for my mat and a swishy new silk bag to carry it in too.. any excuse for a shopping excursion.
