My B-day party

 Asia » China » Beijing
Sorry I haven't posted...we have been so busy the past two days...we saw two companies, Hyundai (tourned the China ops assembly line) and GF Securities (Asset manager in China) and several tourist sites: Forbidden City, Tian an men Square, Summer Palace, the Temple of Heavan...it is tour overload (but they are are all good). For my b-day we went to...guess where...Outback Steakhouse! It was so exciting to eat bread and butter (they have none in China)! Then we went to a club that played US rap from the late 90s, it was fun b/c the whole class went out together for [View Full Entry]

Me Eating Indian (these are the post-meal Peppermints)
In case you forgot what I look like.
We had our first lesson today, it was very interesting...then went to the brewery, it was huge, the "campus" was bigger than most universities...we couldn't remember how much they produced but we all had a laverne and shirley moment when we went through the botteling facility. then we went to this "mall" which was stalls of factory seconds (they had everything...including drivers, which I promised Evan I would look into). I am having two suits custom made, our class bought like 15 of them. It got a little out of hand, but they are so cheap, and should fit perfectly...laura bush [View Full Entry]

Temple of Heaven (in Beijing)

Hello, I am in Beijing now, sleeping fine and learning lots of interesting things--like how women have to pee in a hole in the ground and public bathrooms don't provide toilet paper (I thought that opening would spice things up a bit). We climbed the Great Wall today, which was quite interesting...tons and tons of people there. I can't upload a photo yet b/c I am on a public computer...sorry. Tonight we went to a traditional Chineese dinner and amongst other more edible things, had frog, chicken feet, soft bones, and pork skins in jelly (I didn't eat any of them [View Full Entry]

Chicken Feet and Pork Jelly

In case anyone is wondering, I finally slept! Alex from the office gave me some Ambien--don't worry I am not going to pull a Patrick Kennedy and drive into the Capitol--it actually worked very well, without a hangover. I am finishing up work now and we are having an art tour, since the office is new, the curator is here hanging some great new pieces and then we (Karen and I) are going to the "women's market" where they have lots of knock-offs (jewelry, clothes, etc). It is still overcast, but we did have a few moments of blue sky today. [View Full Entry]

Other Side of Central Skyline
Other Side of Central Skyline
This portion is to the left of what I added last night.
Although it is cloudy, Gigi from the office took me over to Kowloon tonight, which is across the water from my hotel. That is where the best views of the skyline are, because it looks a the financial district. The office was good today, I was tired, still haven't slept, but am looking forward to sleeping very soon. Hong Kong Skyline

Somehow I was able to get out of bed from my night of "sleep" and make it to work for an 8:30 conference call. I think I slept for about an hour and will be running a coffee IV today. The office is beautiful and the views are amazing...unfortunately, it is raining and will be raining until I leave on Saturday. There was a hurricane (called typhoon if it originates in the pacific) that passed earlier in the week and now we are getting the remnants of it. By the way, this thing does not have spell check, so I am [View Full Entry]

Hello, the plane ride was actually not bad. I had lots of TV to watch (6 episodes of the apprentice!) It is dark so I can't take any pictures, but I think it is going to be raining while I am here. I am working in the office tomorrow, and I will try to upload some photos then! [View Full Entry]

My Set-Up
My Set-Up
I think I have too much stuff.
Well, nothing too exciting to report, but I made it to JFK...only 18 more hours until I land in Hong Kong! I am in business class which is cool, and as a perk get to use the BA lounge...it is so cool it even has a waterfall! Free food, drink, internet, "relaxation stations" and a pre-flight "supper". Here is a picture of the little home I have made for myself in a corner. [View Full Entry]

Ok, thank you to Cait for recommending this site. I think it will be a great way to keep our friends and families updated on our adventures! I leave on Tuesday and have begun the complicated task of fitting 20 pairs of shoes into an internal frame backpack. It just isn’t going to happen--I think 19 will have to do. My travels first take me to Hong Kong, where I'll spend some time in the office and overcoming my jetlag. I fly to Beijing on the 29th and will travel through China until August 11. We hit all of the major [View Full Entry]
