Since I am no longer living in the sharehouse (and have not been since the 19th) I haven't had internet to post the 3 weeks of Australian Adventures that have passed. So when I finally get home on May 5, expect a huge posting of about a month of travels. Right now Annie and I are in Sydney and are leaving tomorrow for Brisbane/Rainbow Beach/Fraser Island. I leave Cairns May 5th, arrive in California May 5th, and finally JFK around 10:30pm on May 5th. May 5th is a crazy traveling day! Although I have really enjoyed the past 11 or so weeks, I can't wait to be home! xoxo Lindsay... read more

The following entries are not going to be up to my usual high standards since I have to type them up and post the pictures from my memory stick in an Internet cafe. I meant to post this entries a lot sooner, but the past 3 weekends have been action packed and after work my time had been spent stubbornly avoiding writing up 10 weeks of reflective journal entries as well as an intern analysis of my internship. I'm sure everyone will be simply shocked to hear that although it was due Friday, I was up until 3am Saturday morning finishing them. My procrastination lives on. Now for the recap. Although Fraser Island is my ultimate Australia visiting goal for this trip, I thought it would be nice to warm up with a smaller island somewhere ... read more

Working at Airport Vet is great because not only am I getting clinical experience, but Annabelle also cares for the animals in many of the surrounding wildlife parks. I remember being so excited when AustraLearn told me that! As part of our internship, Annabelle sent Christina, Gianna, and me to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures (+Farm) to be work experience students. Gianna is the new 5th year vet student who is spending a month at Airport Vet. More on that at a later date. Hartley's is about 45 minutes north of Cairns, closer to Port Douglas. This presented a problem since none of us have transportation other than the bus. We didn't even know the hours we would be working, so the only logical choice was to rent a car. A tech at the clinic told us that ... read more

Easter Weekend til present

I know I know...the mother sent me a comment to guilt trip me into sacrificing sleep to write this blog entry. Juuust kidding! I've been meaning to write one for the past 8 days or so, but time seems to get away from me! So lets go back to 2 weekends ago... Easter weekend is kind of big deal here. On Good Friday, everything shuts down. Foodstores, restaurants, bars, everything! Since everyone has off on Friday, you could see many people taking the opportunity to have a night out on the town. We were not a part of this category of people, despite having our 2nd four day weekend in a row. Woohoo! The only downside to our mini-vacation is that apparently people decided that their animals needed to go to the vet before they were ... read more

I wanted to see if I could add videos to the last post, but it was taking too long to upload and I wanted to go to bed. Sooo here are my videos of the skyrail (not very exciting), an aboriginal dance as performed by children, and Barron Falls so you can get an idea of just how large it is. Ok..so after weeks of trying, the only video that would upload is the skyrail. Ah well.... read more

For the past week Cairns and the surrounding areas have been in the middle of a monsoon. Towns nearby (as in perhaps a 15-20 minute drive away) have had families trapped inside of their houses from the flooding. The river, I think it is the Barron River, rose 12 meters higher than normal in like 3 days or something. The father was impressed by my use of the metric system when I relayed this information, but I don't know the conversion so I'm forced to parrot the news station. No one wanted to drive with sheets of rain coming down, so work was very slow and filled with cleaning. The only excitement was the baby crocodile necropsy (a bunch from the same group of eggs died--they had irregular livers, so maybe genetic birth defects?) and a ... read more

Do try to contain your disbelief and excitement. Can this be? TWO entries in a single day?? A monsoon has been flooding the city all day, so I figured I would catch up on my writing. Last weekend we lucked out with our trip. It rains 4 or 5 days a week, and our trip was nothing but sunny. Friday was really nice, so I went to Palm Cove with Kate. We had to swim in the designated area as usual, but the water was warm and the sun was out, so who can complain? The beach and town weren't as nice as Port Douglas, but it was voted the cleanest beach in Australia so that must mean something. I've been trying to work on my tan slowly since the UV rays have been at the ... read more

No, you are not going crazy. I pre-dated this entry since this travelling adventure took place last week and I want to keep track of when these adventures actually happen, not when I finally get around to writing about them. We left Saturday morning (Feb. 23) and returned home Sunday night. Cape Tribulation is about 2 hours north of Cairns, and is known as "where the rainforest meets the ocean". We decided to rent a van for the weekend for travelling freedom. Since 7 people went (me, Christina, Annie, Philip and Yngrid, Brad, and Nick) it came out to be much cheaper than if we were to take a bus or something. However, my mental well-being was not included in this fare. Christina (from New York) drove the van going up. Keep in mind that Australia ... read more

I can't believe that 2 weeks have passed since I posted an entry! Time flies by so fast here. Even though I am rather tired from this weekend's excursion, I swore that I would not go to sleep until I wrote again. I hope everyone appreciates the sacrifice. :) I'm going to cover the sharehouse and work, and hopefully either tonight or tomorrow I will do another post for our weekend trip. To have it all here would be impossible, both for me to write and you to read...haha. I live in the Cairns Sharehouse. People living here are usually working in Cairns or staying here for a short period of time (the average seems to be about 6 months or so), since I personally cannot even begin to imagine staying in a hostel for longer ... read more

I know its been a while, but I did have a lot of miles to cover! There is so much to say that I don't quite know where to start...I didn't have internet access until I moved into the sharehouse on Saturday, so I'll do a brief summery of the time before then. My traveling day(s) can be summed up as follows: Tuesday Morning- Car came at 9am. JFK at 11am. Stood and tried to scan the wrong side of my passport until an employee got tired of me holding up the line and checked me in. Got in the business class line twice (accidently) and was promptly rejected each time. Sat around until 2:00 pm when my flight boarded. Flight to LAX took 6 hours, got there at '5:30'pm. Walked around until 10:30pm. Boarded the ... read more
