We left at 6:00am this morning but spent the first few hours trying to find a hospital which had X-Ray facilities for Ali, one of the girls on the trip. Turns out that when she took a dive off of her quad bike yesterday she actually broke her thumb! She is now all strapped up so it can start to heal. Looks like someone has finally taken over my spot as the person who gets everything wrong with them! More good news on the foot front. The nurses said last night that I could leave my foot uncovered for the night as we were in a clean environment. It was nice not to have the dressing on for a while although it has shown me the now large stupid white patch on my foot where the ... read more

After leaving the seal colony the drive down to Swakopmund wasn't too long and was once again through beautiful scenery. Namibia is a very arid country but despite this there is a lot of beauty here in the desert. We arrived at our hostel, Swakop Lodge and made our way to our dorm rooms. We had to take everything off of the truck as it was going to be in a compound for a few days so within no time at all we all had our stuff laid out and it was a good chance to sort through it, repack it and wash all our clothes. One of the first things we did, as in Victoria Falls, was watch a DVD of all the activites that were on offer whilst we were there. Swakopmund is known ... read more

Not long after leaving our bush camp site we arrived at the famous Cape Cross Seal Colony. Now the first thing to say is that we had been warned that the smell of these seals is usually very unpleasantly overpowering. When we first arrived I could therefore confirm that my sense of smell is as bad as I have always thought as I couldn't really smell anything, let alone anything unpleasant! Ha ha. We spent about 45 minutes at the colony and it was amazing. There were seals as far as the eye could see. Thousands and thousands of them. However, the best thing was that we had timed it just right for when the seals were giving birth to thousands of tiny babies. We even saw some being born there and then in front of ... read more

We had a really long drive through the desert today, but what beautiful scenery it was! We are bush camping tonight and arriving at our spot it looked like it could be used to film the moon landings here it was so desolate. The sunset was gorgeous and we made an 'Africa' sign out of people in front of it, I took photos and it looks like it came out well. It was on this occasion that I received my first, and only numpty nomination. Everyday on the trip after we have eaten our evening meal we get nominate each other for the numpty award, basically anything anyone has done or said that is completely stupid can be nominated and the winner of the numpty from the night before gets to choose who to pass it ... read more

We were up at 5:00am from our bush camp on the side of the road so that we could clear out of there early. We were going to spend the next few nights staying at campsites within Etosha National Park so we entered the park straight away that morning. Immediately we were told that there were some strict rules in Etosha such as no music playing to disturb the animals. As we would be game driving all the way through the park to get to our campsites we were also told that we should be on the lookout for animals and to buzz Pat the driver if we wanted to stop at any point to take photographs. On the game drive we obviously saw the usual Zebra, Giraffe etc. We saw them mainly at watering holes ... read more

After bush camping with the San people we had a nice lie in, until 11:00am!!!! Longest lie in we have had all trip really, although I was still wide awake from 5:00am it was nice not to have to rush around. Our first challenge was to make it out of the bush camping site without getting stuck again. The way we did this was to let down the tyres on the truck, drive down the sand road and then let them back up again before carrying on down the main road. This meant that we had about 45 minutes of waiting around in the midday sun when we were letting the tyres back up again but I didn't mind that. I found a nice bit of shade under a tree on the roadside and carried on ... read more

We left our Delta campsite at 8:00am, a lte start by normal standards! The good news is I have not been sick at all since starting to take the anti-sickness drugs. Nice that something actually does what it says on the tin! My knee also seems to be totally better finally and my foot is still progressing nicely - well as much as it can do out here. We had a fairly long drive day, as most of our days will be in Namibia. It is a large country and we are travelling the whole length from North to South do some long drives and bush camping are inevitable. We crossed the Namibian border just after lunch and it was amazing at how different this border was to all of the others we have gone through. ... read more

We had a really long drive day after our night in Thebe Safari Camp, 12 hours in all. I woke up with my knee still being very sore and painful to put any weight on for too long and my infected mossie bite looking very badly infected again. My infection is on my foot on my other leg. My foot is now very red and has swollen to twice its usual size. The pressure I can feel in it is just amazing, and painful. It feels like it could explode. So now I can hardly walk at all and I can't put weight comfortably on either leg - this is getting beyond a joke now. I spent most of the day in the truck lying across three seats with my legs and feet up. Then after ... read more

After a really good sleep, exhausted after the activities at Victoria Falls, we heading towards the Botswana border. It was quite a short drive for once which was a nice change. This was one of the most hectic and interesting borders we have seen. Leaving the truck we all had to walk about 5 minutes to the immigration office to get our visas. At each border we have to fill out entry and exit cards which ask for basically the same details each time. I now know all my passport details off by heart I have to repeat them that often. Once we had our visas we had to walk to the riverfront and hop on a passenger ferry for the five minute journey over the river, to then hop back on the truck again. All ... read more

Well, once again the only thing I can say right now is 'Oh my god'. Where do I even begin to talk about today? White Water Rafting through the Batoka Gorge! We all met at 8:00am and had a breakfast roll and cup of tea, the guides obviously knew we would need as much energy as possible to get through the day ahead. James, one of the guides then introduced himself and gave us an idea of what the day would hold and piled us into a huge jeep which would take us the 10km to the falls. We arrived at the falls soon after and put on our life jackets, helmets and each grabbed a rafting paddle. It turned out we had the same walk down to The Boiling Pot that I did a few ... read more
