Well what can I say? I did not expect to get here mid way through the trip due to my financial situation, which I don’t know if I told you was corrected by my kind friends at the Westpac fraud department a few weeks back. All I have to do is get the card posted to me. I got into Amsterdam at just after 2pm and jumped on a train into the city, where my hostel (The Globe Hotel) was located. It did not take long to walk past a number of coffee shops to get a whiff of that pleasant mull haze that blew out the door. My hostel (hotel) was located at the bottom of a dark and dingy English pub, so I was off to a flyer and then I was pleasantly greeted ... read more
Well it was a reasonable train ride, but one that I thought I was most likely to get some thing pinched from as we where stopping in small towns thru the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungry. My little blue blanky came in very handy, as I was able to lie out over the 3 seats for a majority of the trip. Once I got into town I had my mission of locating a hostel, one of which I was recommend and was shown as available an hour before for boarding the train was not, so I set out to locate a internet café where I could find some good hostels with in the area. It did not take long to find one nor did it to get the address of 3 good hostels in the area. ... read more
Well after a massive time in Munich and a long train ride into Prague I was given a frightful scare and thankfully enjoyed some luck on my trip. In my fatigued state whilst boarding the train I put my backpack in one of the cabins before heading to the toilet. I returned to the cabin and enjoyed the rest of the lengthy trip. It was when we arrived in Prague at 10.45pm that I realised my bag was no longer in the cabin. I freaked out a little before checking the one next door and thankfully saw it perched on the top rack where I had left it. From there I made my way to the hostel, checked in and jumped into a comfortable and very warm bed, maybe too warm. On Monday I was very ... read more
Well what can I say. It started off dazed and confused and it did not get much better, but god it was good. We arrived into Munich at 6.45am. We took our time getting off the train, as did Sarah and Eliza. During the night Laura (also Granada and Iso) got onto the train in the middle of Slovenia, somewhere with her new found friend Hayley. These two were even slower getting off the train and told by the conductor to hurry up before it left. This panic led to the fatal error on Laura’s behalf, not looking over your Cabin before you leave, but she would not find this out for another few hours. So I asked Sarah and Laura who had booked the campsites (Wies’n Camp) for us, where we had to go to ... read more
Well after a 7-hour overnight train from Venice to Zagreb, we tried to rest/sleep on the floor at the train station as it was 4.30 and our train was not going to leave until 6.50am. Zagreb, maybe a nice place to stay for a day or two, but due to our short time restraints we where keen to do all the travelling we could to get to Split ASAP for a bit of a chill. The train station was not much chop with little seating and being asked to leave certain areas of the station where sleeping was not permitted. The trip to Split was neither here nor there. I had my book to read, but Girvo was short of power on his ipod and probably did not kill the time as easily as I did. ... read more
Well after last writing you aboard the boat from Patras to Bari, I was able to find a nice place within the boat that allowed me a few hours sleep. Well that was after 2am when the disco down the stair case had stopped. I did listen to a bit of the international beats pumping, but I was glad to have the noise cancelling headphones when the Greek techno hit the DJ’s decks. It was not an amazing town Bari, yet I had a 5 hour wait till my train to Rome, so thankfully I and a New Zealand couple I meet at the port found luggage storage in the train station and went for a wander around the town to kill some time. The train ride to Rome was not that bad and I was ... read more
Well after a long day of Airports and flights I arrived in Athens feeling reasonably fresh but was keen for an early nights rest as I had a 7.25 ferry to Santorini (one of the Greek islands). But unfortunately you meet nice people and you have a beer. Well one of these nice people turned out to be Kelly whom everyone knows was in the first Oz Idol and was on Video hits. This big Aussie guy by the name of Michael also, brought it up that she looked like that chick. There were a thousand questions going. After that cleared up we all had a bit of a chat, then another Aussie couple enters the room and after 30mins asked the same question. It was at this point that I raised the issue that “I ... read more
Well I got minimal sleep on the flight to Madrid due to the time zone differences between Spain and Brazil. So I was a little out of it once we landed and said my farewells to others whom all had connecting flights to London/Home to finish up their trips. I myself was only just embarking on the European leg of my tour. I jumped on the metro into the city and it seemed all quite easy until I struck problems when my stop had been shut down for construction works, so I had to jump onto a few other lines and made my way to the hostel with out further difficulty. The hostel was awesome on first impression and only got better. As the hostel hade only been open for just over 2 weeks every thing ... read more
After my early arrival into Lisbon I was at my best using my non existent Portuguese to try and figure out where I could catch a bus to Ericeira to meet up with Jack Perry & Nic Muscroft who were surfing in the World Qualifying Series event, as well as Brett Girvan who was there to film the boys surf. After a few metro trips, when it did finally begin running, and an hour and a half bus I arrived in town, but the problem was I was 45 minutes too late to see mushy surf and he had bombed out in an unlucky heat. Unfortunately I would also not get to see Pez surf as Mushy had taken him out the day previous and Robbo (Adam Robison from Portland) missed out the previous afternoon as ... read more
Once I crossed the Argentinean border into Brazil my papers were stamped within 5 mins and I had a further 50min wait till my bus town into town (Foz De Iguaçu). There I was slightly conned by a guy in a tourist info shirt who spoke English, but he did however walk me to the nearest cash exchange (probably his mate) and taxi (also his mate) to the bus station, but in all I did not get that ripped off just an few extra bucks and I now had a few Brazilianos to my name and at the bus station in time to get on a bus to Florianopolis. After paying for my bus ticket I soon realised how expensive it was going to be to travel within Brazil, nearly twice that off Argentina. I had ... read more
