Horseback Riding
Hi There! I am a U.S. student studying in San Ramon, Costa Rica. I have been wanting to go horse backing riding on one of my weekends and was wondering how the prices were and where this was? Thanks!

Horseback Riding
I'm sorry, but I don't remember how much it was. I booked it through the hotel, Loma Volcan near Arenal Volcano.

Good times in Germany
Sally, I had many good times in Germany, usually involving wine, beer, and food. Being a guy and 22 yrs old, if I didn't have a place to sleep, I just looked for a thicket and lay down on the ground. Only real trouble I got into was for hitch hiking on the Autobahn. "Was machen sie hier/ heir ? (Said the guy driving the Porsche with the red lights on it.) I got my first ride in a Porsche, to the next exit. Noel

translator
I love your blog. You have a way with story telling. About the language thing, can't you get a translator app for your phone?

wow!
I'm impressed at your tenacity. Hang in there! I feel like I'm seeing these little German towns through your descriptions ~ enjoying your trip back here in Fulton County.

You go girl!
Sally - How brave and exciting to do this trip on your own! Being by yourself brings another whole element to the trip. You are less isolated not being in association with another person traveling with you and locals and travelers are probably more apt to engage with you.....what interesting things you learn! Not sure I would be brave enough to do it on my own but you seem to be getting along swimmingly.

misc. country vs city
Agree entirely. I think the excitement of the foreign city. Is mostly for the young. If you really know the city, or if you have good friends (natives) to visit with, it\'s ok. I spent a month in Madrid, went to the Prado every morning, ate lunch (chips and beer) in the park, , then drank wine with a bunch of guys from the youth hostel until late. That was fun. None of the other guys were Americans, and none were Spaniards. Franco was still in power, and there were Guardia Civil with guns on the street corners. Also bullet holes from machine guns on the walls. The most beautiful, wonderful trip I ever took was to the west coast of Norway - fiord country. One lane roads across the mountains from Oslo to Bergen. Vive la campagna ! Noel

misc.
Sally, do they still have the little "pissoirs" for guys only. My family, being French (Dad's side) still refers to the John as the pissoir. Have you seen a movie called "After Midnight". If not, put it on your list. Paris and time travel; a great combination. When I think of Paris, I think of "Day of the Jackal" and the Tour de France, last day, with a hundred fifty bikers racing up and down the Champs Elysee at thirty miles per. Noel

WHA ??
Way to go ! I spent three hours in Paris in 1965, but only had money for one small meal, then had to continue hitchhiking to Germany to get a job (so I could afford to come home...) Sally Spatafore CAMPBELL ?? have I been out of touch that long ??Sorry we didn't get to have a drink at R.H.'s funeral, but Rose's basememt didn't appeal just at that moment. Next time. Noel

Not really a cat
No, it's not really a cat. They call it a genet cat, but it's not truly a member of the cat family. You can't get anything past Marshall!

ngorongoro crater
When you get back, look for a (used, cheap) copy of a book "Hunter" by John A hunter. It was a book of the month club selection in the fifties. I must have read it twenty times as a kid/youth. Tells about life of a "white hunter" in the early part of the 20th cent. lots about the Massai (Maasi, Maassi, ??) and ngorongoro, plus old pictures. I think those semi-feral dogs are the same the world over. the one in your picture looked like the ones we saw in Viet Nam. I think there are some in Georgia, too (U.S.A.)

Travel, do it while you can
I've really emjoyed reading about your trip. Sorry to hear that you got sick! It's bad enough tobe sick at home, butmuch worse away from home! I would love to travel, but the cost is a bit too much for me. I hope you get this, but my facebook is not working properly. I'm glad that you can do these things. You learn about how other people live.

WOW!
Marshall doesn't think that a genet cat could be considered a cat. We will research the topic. The lions are beautiful! Marshall says "You are too lucky that you got to see a lion take down a wildebeest." We both would really like to have an adventure like that one!!
