I'm a 29 year old Englishman who got bored of his job after about 5 1/2 years and decided to start a new career.

So I quit my job and have decided to have a bit of a break before I go and work in the city.

I have 2 loves in life - scuba diving and skiing!

I try to ski in the winter and scuba dive in the summer (sometimes have been know to do either during Easter as well), as long as I get to go skiing and diving once a year I'm a happy bunny, if I don't then I tend to be a bit grumpy.

Today a group of us from Asia Divers joined Master Divers on the MV Trident for a wreck dive on a ship called the torpedo. It took 2 hrs to get to the site which allowed for a leisurely dive briefing, gear setup and very nice beans and bacon sandwich breakfast (first time I've had bacon that's been cooked properly and not to a crisp) There were about 4 groups of us, we let the 2 tec diving groups go first as they had long deco stops to do. Our 2 dives were planned for 42m with 1 min stops at 23m, 13m and a 3 min stop at 5m. Me, Phil, Alice and our Instructor Jamie got into the water and dropped down the line fairly rapid to maximise our air. As I got to ... read more

Wooo :D Finished the 3 day Instructor Exam today, it had been raining earlier during the week so we were a bit worried about how the visibility would be in the sea today, luckily we had glorious sunshine and great conditions for our Open water presentations in Mango bay today. Day 1 of the IE started with a briefing from the PADI Examiners from PADI Asia Pacific and then the General Standards and Procedures exam as well as the 5 part theory exam. Got 94% for the GSP exam and 3 x 100% and 2 x 92% for the theory exam. Also my group were the purple group or the Purple Cobras as we liked to call ourselves ;) Day 2 began with our confined water presentations at the Sunset Buri resort pool, when we arrived ... read more

It's been a while since I last posted on my blog, well I've been busy on the IDC (Instuctor Development Course), I spent the tail end of my first week in Koh Tao ill (won't fill you in on the gory details) and doing some studying for the IDC. We spent 4 days doing prep for the IDC and spent most of the day in the classroom, we're now on day 6 of the IDC and have been doing mock exams to test our theory knowledge, presentations to test our instructional ability, giving confined water lessons and demonstrating skills underwater, as well as giving open water lessons and rescue scenarios. The days have been long with the longest being 07:30-17:00. The group size has grown now to an even 8 and everyone has been doing well ... read more

Finally left the UK on Thurs 20 Jul, due to my standby ticket, I couldn't get a flight on the wednesday as all of the flights to Bangkok were full. Managed to get on one of the last seats on a Qantas flight sat next to a young couple who had just spent 3 weeks on holiday in France and were now on their way back home. I got about 6 hours of broken sleep on the plane and the service was good with airplane food that actually tasted nice! Only downside was that my seat was next to the emergency exit where the door bulges out, so I had to sit with my legs at an angle. Breezed through passport control thanks to my extended stay tourist visa and made my way to the domestic ... read more

hmm so I've just finished packing and man I hate packing!! Managed to pack my dive gear (and a minimal amount of clothes, meh going to be underwater mainly) into one bag which weights just about 23 kg (BA's limit) using the highly scientific method of weighing myself then weighing myself whilst holding the bag then substracting my weight. A bit rough and dirty but I gave my spring scales to Stu and now thinking that I should have kept them. I'm mostly packed and just need to do the long list of little bits and pieces I need to do just to tidy up some loose ends. Ah I better say where I'm going shouldn't I? Well I'm a PADI divemaster and have been diving since 2000, I've dived in Phuket, Sharm (several times - ... read more
