Well onto the last stop before Oz. Singapore to Kuala Lumpur is another long journey so we decided to go for the over night train option again. So off we went to the station in the morning to buy our tickets to avoid any disasters like the last time and ensure that we got the sleeping berths. But no of course it's not gonna be that simple for us !! Turns out that there is a Malaysian bank holiday and there are no berths free, no bother we'll endure seats again, but no, no seats either. The thought of doing another [View Full Entry]

Singapore at Last !! Asia » Singapore
There is a joke among the locals here that Singapore is a fine city. Yeah, I know, I wasn't exactly rolling about holding ma sides either, but the more and more you stay here, the more you understand the joke. You get fined for EVERYTHING here. Littering ($1000), eating food on the subway ($500), smoking in a non-designated area ($2500), these are just a few of the many indiscretions that you can be convicted of in Singapore, you can even be fined $500 for chewing gum. Yep, chewing gum !! As you might expect, Singapore is spotless, I'm talking imaculate, there's [View Full Entry]

Train to Singapore Asia » Singapore
Our original plan was to make a few wee short journeys down the coast until we got to Singapore, but the more and more we read about the place, we reckoned it would be just as well to get the journey out of the way in one go and just take the train. To get the train, we had to travel to a place called Wakaf Baharu, which is about 10 minutes from Kota Bahru (the main city in the north of Malaysia). To get there we'd need to get a boat from Perhentian Besar to Kuala Besut, a taxi from [View Full Entry]

8hr bus Journey, 1 hr squashed taxi ride and a 1/2hr bumpby fast boat ride and we arrive at the Perentian Islands the place I have been dreaming of since we started planning this trip. So we get to Butterworth Bus station on the mainland after a quick ferry from Penang Island with plenty of time to kill as we want this trip to go ahead without too many trauma's like we've had in the past, especially with next bus being at 8.30 the next morning. MMM being early is one thing but being three hrs early is taking it to [View Full Entry]

The boat trip from Langkawi was about 2 and a half hours long. We'd been on the boat for less than 10 minutes when the wee man that organised all our bags and stuff told us that we could move outside now that the rain had stopped. What he actually meant was that it was blazing sunshine outside. So out we went. Perhaps naively, we had assumed that we would be indoors for the duration of the journey, and that it would be raining, so the old factor 25 had been safely stashed away in the big rucksacks, which were in [View Full Entry]

Cenang Beach Asia » Malaysia » Kedah & Perlis » Pulau Langkawi
Well folks we have moved from the remoteness of the Tanjung Sanctuary down to the very chilled Cenang Beach. As we had no accommodation booked it was down to the lonely planet guide and gut instinct. While traipsing along the road like a total novice with our heads buried in our lonely planet, which we could barely read with the sweat pouring in our eyes, a local collared us to look at his v v v cheap accommodation. We have to admit the snobs in us came out when we had to walk past the rabid dogs, chikens and ox in [View Full Entry]

Here at last Asia » Malaysia » Kedah & Perlis » Pulau Langkawi
Well folks, we've finally arrived in Langkawi !! After 2 years of planning, we made it to The Tajung Sanctuary on time and in one piece. As any of you who have endured our stories of our previous travel escapdes, you will appreciate that this is something of a miracle in itself !! Flights were on time, and so were we. Luggage made it with us. Reservations were all ok. Not really sure we can believe it ourselves, but it's a nice start all the same !! We got to Tanjung Sanctuary on Monday night about half six, chuffed with ourselves [View Full Entry]
