Leanne and Matthew

Matthew and I love to travel. You could say we both have a case of wanderlust. Although we have kept some records of our travels in a written journal, we would like to share our stories and photos with a larger audience. Since I am the typist of the family, I (Leanne), will be doing a majority of the writing and most of the photos will be taken by Matthew as he is the photographer (www.matthewyeomanphotography.com). We hope you come along with us on our journeys.

"Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." -Miriam Beard

Our last day in Florida. After our late night, we still got up for sunrise since it was finally a clear day. We went back to the same beach where we had previously taken our “rainy day” photos. It was great to sit, relax, and enjoy the beautiful weather. Then we had to head back to pack and make our way to the airport for our afternoon flight.... read more

We awoke to a cloudy, rainy day. First stop was the Fruit and Spice Park (http://miamifruitandspicepark.com). We were able to taste some of the different fruits (some that I’d never heard of), including the sapote, which comes in different varieties, and this one tasted like chocolate. However, overall, the park didn’t live up to my expectations. Upon leaving the park, we drove on to a nearby fruit stand (which is more like a small market) called “Robert Is Here” (http://www.robertishere.com). We got some mango, grapefruit, and sapote (this particular kind tastes a lot like pumpkin pie). If you have the time, it’s definitely worth your while to spend a few minutes here. Our next stop was the Everglades Alligator Farm (http://www.everglades.com) where we planned to go on an airboat tour of the Everglades. You may want ... read more

This was the day we planned to spend relaxing on the beach, and we woke up to a steady rain. When it was still raining in the afternoon, we decided to head to the beach anyways for some rainy day photos and video. Although it wasn’t how I would have planned it, we had a good time - we also had the beach all to ourselves! By the time we left, we were soaked and pretty chilly. A hot shower and warm clothes felt great. Then Pizza Roma for dinner and some of our Key West beer. And it was still raining…... read more

We were able to spend this day with my sister, brother-in-law, and niece. We first stopped at Total Wine (http://totalwine.com) to see their large collection of wines and beer and settled on trying Key West beer (which I would say is comparable to Blue Moon). Then we headed towards Little Havana and lunch at Versailles. I got the Chicken and Yellow Rice Imperial, which has mayonnaise, peas, pimento, and a hard boiled egg. Not too bad. Worth noting: you have to specify you want a fountain drink if you want to get free refills. Otherwise, you get a can of soda, no refills, and it costs $0.25 more… After lunch we went to Domino Park and did some exploring in Little Havana (http://www.miamiandbeaches.com/visitors/little_havana.asp). We were also hoping to experience Little Haiti (http://www.ci.miami.fl.us/nets/pages/LittleHaiti/LittleHaiti.asp), and although we seemed ... read more

Remember the roosters? Yes, they woke us up again…extremely early. But I guess we had planned to get up for sunrise anyways… We got ready and took off on a long walk toward the southernmost point on the island. The streets were quiet except for the occasional rooster calls (we actually saw several roosters perched in trees). Unfortunately there wasn’t much of a sunrise that morning because of all the clouds on the horizon, so we made a stop at the southernmost point marker (http://southernmostpointusa.com) and then on to breakfast at the Cuban Coffee Queen (http://www.cubancoffeequeen.net/ccq). The Cuban Coffee Queen can be found at the corner of Margaret and Caroline. Don’t plan on eating in as it is a walk-up place, but with the nice weather, it’s easy to find a place to enjoy their coffee ... read more

Woke up at about 5:00 am to a rooster crowing. I was barely able to sleep after this as the crowing did not stop. It sounded like there was a rooster right outside our window, and then we’d hearing more crowing in the distance. For breakfast, we went to Blue Heaven (http://blueheavenkw.homestead.com/Blue_Heaven_Restaurant_Key_West.html) - as they say, “You don’t have to die to get there!” They are well known for their breakfasts and laid back atmosphere (sit outside if it’s nice but only if you don’t mind an occasional rooster stopping by your table!). I had a bacon and tomato benedict, and Matt had lobster and asparagus omelette. One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had… After Blue Heaven we walked on and toured Ernest Hemingway’s house (www.hemingwayhome.com), which is worth a visit, and then went on ... read more

On this date we made the long drive down to Key West. We stopped at a couple photo places along the way in search of some kind of adapter (can you tell I’m not the photographer?) and a waterproof camera for our upcoming snorkeling trip. After going to both World Wide Foto and Pitman Photo (www.worldwidefoto.com and www.pitmanphotosupply.com), we found what we were looking for and were on our way to the Keys. When we made it to Key Largo, we stopped to eat at Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen (www.mrsmacskitchen.com). I ordered alligator tenders and sweet potato fries. For those of you that haven’t eaten alligator, I don’t recommend you try it for the first time there (I’ve had better), but they are supposed to be well known for their yummy key lime pie… After what seemed ... read more

Matthew had a photo shoot scheduled at Nova Southeastern University in the afternoon, so we spent the morning relaxing, drinking coffee, and stopping by a local camera shop at Aventura Mall (www.wolfcamera.com). Depending on what you are looking for, stopping by Wolf Camera may not be worth your while as it is a small store without much of a selection. After the mall we headed to NSU to meet our brother-in-law and to get ready for the photo shoot. NSU has a nice campus, and it was a beautiful day. We were even able to capture the famous campus iguana out sunning itself. The photo shoot was for promotional materials for NSU, and the subject was Julia Yarbrough, a current student of NSU and a well-known former Miami news anchor. She recently left her career in ... read more

Destination: Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was our first time inside the new Indy airport, and the first time we had flown since we got married in October 2007. Although we love to travel, we prefer to do it by car if possible - so we have more freedom and can take whatever we want! We got a great deal on ticket prices though and it is a long drive to southern Florida, so by plane we went. AirTran seems to have some of the best deals on flights (www.airtran.com) to the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area. Although, note to self… keep in mind dimension requirements now on luggage - not just weight requirements…at least on AirTran flights. We left Indy at about 11:00 am and got into Fort Lauderdale at about 1:30 pm. Not too bad. The rest ... read more
