Hi everyone It is a year today since we took delivery of our car, and it demanded a present!! It had it's first hiccup. One of it's 2 batteries died, while we were at Karijini National Park, so we have used our generator to start the car since then each morning, and we came back here to Port Hedland to buy a new one. Since we left here, we drove south to Marble Bar, which has a record of the hottest spot in Australia, and explored that area. We took a bucket to fill with water from the pool, to wet the rocks to reveal multi coloured jasper rocks. Chris had a swim there too. We drove down to Glenherring Gorge, some 27kms along the 4WD shortcut road to see what it was like, and decided ... read more

We leave Port Headland tomorrow, and probably won't have coverage again for a while. We are heading inland, south to Marble Bar - the hottest place in Australia for a night. From there we will check out the dirt road to Newman, some 299k, but will probably retrace our tracks to highway one, go west 60k, then turn off south again 450k to Newman (where the world's largest open cut mine is), and then Karijini National Park. We have booked a caravan park in Karratha, back on the coast from the 30th Aug for 5 days, where we are expecting some mail, including the re registration of the van. (We have been on the road now almost a year!) This is an update before we disappear into the outback "no signal land!!" - However, we could ... read more

Hi everyone We have travelled down an uninteresting road from Broome, but have made many lovely stops along the way, each one along a red dirt road to the coast. Unfortunately there has been no computer coverage until now. We arrived in Port Hedland today, and have lots of emails and news to attend to. I will probably send 2 lots of photos, as too many to put on one blog! After 11 days in Broome, we drove south to the turnoff to Barn Hill Station, then tackled our first (for the caravan) 10k of red dirt road. This is why we paid the extra and got an off road capable van, with the bigger wheels. Barn hill Station has a rustic camping ground alongside red cliffs, beside a lovely white sand beach. We had 2 ... read more

We are loving it here at Broome. It's good to be able to swim again at the lovely clean beaches. Nice temperatures, blue skies, we can see why it's so popular. We've met up again with our Victorian friends, Jerry and John and Mardi and Bap. They are in an overflow camp nearby. We have been going down to Cable Beach each afternoon, having a lovely swim, and watching the camels go past as the sun sets. Tonight it's our turn, and we are having an hour long ride on the red camels at sunset. Last night we had a BBQ on the beach. It's very like Baylys, we've taken lots of lovely photos again! One part of Cable Beach is closed to cars and most people swim there, or you can drive up the other ... read more

Hi From Kununarra we headed south west, down a main highway that still has some 1 lane bridges and even a ford with water. They are upgrading the roads which is needed! Lots of roadtrains about. We stayed at a freepark - Spring Creek - just opposite the entrance to the Bungle Bungles 4WD track for 2 nights, and parked beside some ex kiwis who have a motorhome. Over a bonfire, we decided to go in the next day to the Bungle Bungles, without the van, and we took Kay and Bob with us. We'd heard how bad the track is, even met several people who had hired 4WDs rather than take their own vehicles in! We decided to give it a go!! The track was 53km to the infomation centre -expected to take 2 - ... read more

Hi all We moved to a much nicer caravan park a few k's out of town at Lake Kununurra on Friday. This was our 1st choice, but we couldn't get in to then, and had to take 5 days. It's really busy here now, so many caravans, lots with nowhere to go!! Our site is about 50 meters from the lake, with water views. Lovely, we take chairs down to the lakefront at sunset with our drinks and watch the sun go down. Yesterday we ventured out to the Gibb River Road, a dusty, corrigated 4WD road. We stopped first at Emma Gorge and did a 2 hour walk over a rough shingle track (classed as difficult), to a waterfall and cold swimming hole, where we got into our togs for a quick dip. We then ... read more

Hi all Terrible computer coverage here, but will try to send a report! We crossed to Western Australia on the 6th July, going through a quarintine checkpoint. I'd sliced some lemons and frozen them for my drinks, used all our fruit and veges, but we weren't allowed lemons , even frozen ons with peel on, so had then taken off us!! We will spend 9 days here, as there is lots to see and do around here. We met up with our Victorian friends again, but they move on west tomorrow. We had 3 nights ay Jabiru, in the Kakadu N.P. The uranium mine tour was very good, and we went up to Ubirr Rock and watched the sunset one night, with about 300 - 400 other tourists!! We did some walks and saw some very ... read more

Hi everyone We really enjoyed exploring the Litchfield National Park for 3 days. Its about 120k south west of Darwin. We did day trips from Batchelor. We swam a couple of times each day in the lovely pools below the waterfalls, and did 2 4WD tracks, one to Tjaynera Falls had quite a deep water crossing, which was a test for our car (that doesn't have a snorkel), but "no worries", no leaks! We came back to Howard Springs C.P. slightly further out of Darwin, but cheaper and quieter. Some of our friends were here (they left today for Kununurra). We have been to the very good Territory Wildlife Park, and Berry Springs, where we again floated downstream with our noodles to another big pool, another day we drove east to Fog Dam, a wetlands bird ... read more
