We were up early to some sunshine and checked out of our apartment. We gave our rental car a quick wash and a vacuum. We headed out of Noosa and made a pit stop in Eumundi for their famous markets. It was a huge market and dad gave mom and I a deadline of one hour. So not cool! But mom and I headed off in search of some cool things. Mom ended up buying the most. She found a dress (that I really liked!) a hat made by a local lady, and a wood cutting board. I managed to find a great sunhat in hopes that our rainy days were over. Dad bought us ladies some really yummy popcorn. It's too bad we couldn't stay at the markets longer but we had to get through ... read more

We were up early to drive ourselves down to the Australia Zoo for 9am. In case you didn't know The Australia Zoo is Steve Irwin's zoo, he and his family own and operate it. It started out as a small reptile farm owned by his parents. It's now a massive zoo with all kinds of Australian animals and a few other animals from around the world. Since Steve died in 2006 his family has turned the zoo into a bit of a memorial to him. As you enter there are a few keepers with some animals that you can touch and get pictures with. There was a cockatoo, a snake and even a dingo out for a walk. Mom and I touched the snake and met the cockatoo. At the entrance is a bronze statue of ... read more

We woke up to sun this morning. We walked across the street to the pier to take some pictures. On our way out of town we spotted this place with all kinds of shark paraphernalia. I've heard about this guy from the movie Sharkwater. He goes out and hunts these "man-eating" sharks to protect whales. Anyways he has this shark museum in Hervey Bay with all the stuff he's collected from these sharks. I took pictures of the outside of it as we drove by. We made our way down to Rainbow beach on the other end of Fraser Island. It's named rainbow beach for it's cliffs of different coloured sand. We did a little bush walk to get to a huge sand dune. You literally get to the opening of the trees and it's just ... read more

Rain appears to be following us on this trip and is determined to rain on us everyday. But we wont let it get us down!!!A courtesy bus came to pick us up nice and early in the morning. After picking up all the passengers we headed for the ferry terminal. It's kind of like a barge. We sat upstairs in the seating area where a big fluffy orange cat seemed to call home. He would let you pet him but he did not seem at all interested in any of the people on board. Once on Fraser island we hopped onto our 4x4 bus and headed out. The whole island is sand and rainforest. It's unique because it's a rainforest living in sand. One of the purest breed of Dingo's call this island home. Dingo's look ... read more

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day. Took some pictures from our balcony looking out to the ocean. We walked down closer to the water and took a few more pics before setting off on our day's adventure. We took the tourist drive from Yeppoon to Rockhampton. There was a really nice spot we found and stopped to take some pictures. We met a local lady out walking her daschound puppies and had a chat with her about the area. She told us about a lookout spot with a "singing ship". We went to check it out. There is a sculpture in the shape of a ships sails with pipes that the wind goes through to make music. IT wasn't windy enough for us and we didn't get to hear much music. We got into Rockhampton ... read more

We were up and on the road really early this morning as we had a lot of km's to make. But we weren't far out of town when mom and dad started to wonder about the whereabouts of their camera. We pulled over on the side of the road and searched the car, going through all the bags, retracing our footsteps, everything. No sign of it. Last they remember having it is while we were waiting for our taxi from the harbour the afternoon we got back from the boat. So, back into Airlie beach we go stopping at the hotel and mom and dad searched the entire room, no camera. Next, we rushed back to the harbour and dad ran down to see if the hammer was still there. Mom and I asked at the ... read more

We were up early not like you could sleep in, I was dying from the heat in the boat. We had breakfast first and then suited up to go snorkeling again. We got to snorkel in the bay we were already parked in so we hopped into the zodiac and slid into the water. There is a big fish here called Elvis and another called Priscilla. They are huge fish and very friendly. I did get to see him swimming around but I didn't get too close. Another boat full of people got in the water with us and they kind of over took the area so our little group swam over to another area to see more coral. They were throwing bread into the water again to attract the fish. These ones get right up ... read more

We were up early and all packed and the hotel let us leave our stuff in their storage. We ordered a taxi to take us down to the harbour as we didn't want to leave our car down their for 2 days. We met several others waiting for the same boat while we waited. There was mostly young backpackers. One young backpacker had her aunt with her so mom and dad weren't the only older people. However, all the backpackers were either from Germany or Switzerland or Austria and all spoke some form of German. We got all checked in with the guy from the boat and were given our stinger suit for snorkeling. Then we proceeded down to the boat. Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie Beach March 1st 2011

Like I said in my last blog we got up and went to the lookout over Bowen this morning. We then made our way down to Airlie beach. We stopped at a tourist information center on our way and booked a place to stay called Club Crocodile and we ended up booking our Whitsunday sailing trip as the price had dropped from what we saw online. We had to check in at the office for the boat first so we headed there first. We had to fill in some information for them and let them know our food restrictions if any. We were warned that the boat needed 12 people to go and there were currently only 9 people booked for the next day. If it wasn't going to go we would be put on a ... read more

Well raining again, nothing new here. We left Port Douglas a little disappointed with the lack of sun but never the less had a great time and saw all the things we wanted to. We didn't have too much of a plan but to just as far south as we could. Much of the area we were about to drive through had been affected by cyclone Yasi. We saw first hand the destruction it caused of houses, farms, crops, even some beaches. Banana plantation crops were broken in half, no wonder the cost of Banana's is $11/kilo here right now. Yikes. Many of these farms will have to start completely over. The further south we got the more water in the fields we started to notice. It was also slowly creeping closer to being on the ... read more
