Well, I've been here a week now and I have to say that I actually like working in the kitchen. It can be quite fun. We get to do a lot of the prep work for the chefs. There are two chefs, Alain from Switzerland and Hipolito from the Philippines. I think I've picked things up pretty quickly. I'm still not a big fan of being a waitress but i'm doing ok at that too. On Friday and Saturday nights we have to take orders from the tables in the dining room. On Saturday night after we all finished work, Jo, Anne and I hopped into Shane's car with him to go out to Justin's farm for his birthday party. I had only met Justin once but he invited me to come anyways. We had a ... read more

I packed up all my belongs, said goodbye to the girls I had met in my room who I can say are now friends and headed down to the bus depot. My bags thrown on to the bus and I was off to New Norcia. My friend Jo who I worked with in Southern Cross has been out in NN since January and had told me about the job. By 11:30am I was being dropped off at the roadhouse in NN. Rick, my new boss was there to pick me up and drove me around the tiny town before we drove up to the Hotel where I would be working. I threw my bags in the staff "Cottage" and headed into the bar to see Jo. We last saw each other back in January as I ... read more

This morning I decided to hop on a train down to Mandurah. It's a town about an hour south of Perth. There is a free shuttle bus from the train station to the main part of town every 20 minutes or so. I waited for the next bus and got off at the waterfront. I immediately fell in love with this place. I walked over to Dolphin quay which is where some shops and restaurants are. I had lunch at the big fish and chip place before going on a walk over to the city beach. I decided not to spend any time there and headed back to dolphin quay. I bought myself a big bottle of water and decided to hop on a boat cruise of the area for $25. Mandurah is built on the ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Rottnest Island March 29th 2011

I was up early this morning and I headed down to the pier to catch my ferry to Rottnest island which is just off the coast of Fremantle. It's about an hour ferry ride from Perth up the river out to Rottnest island. Once the ferry landed on Rottnest island I hopped off and grabbed the bike I rented. It's been a while since i've ridden a bike but I hopped on with my map in hand and headed off to see the sights. I started out ok and seeing some of the coast on this island was amazing. But the road started getting quite hilly and it was hot out so I was sweating a lot. SOme of the hills I had to walk up because I had no energy. I stopped at a few ... read more

Today the two girls from my room, Phil and Uli, made our way to Cottesloe beach in the afternoon armed with a picnic of fruit salad. It was a warm day so we headed into the water straight away playing in the waves. We spent the rest of the afternoon laying in the sun absorbing some vitamin D, reading and eating some fruit salad. We watched the sun set and took heaps of pictures. I'd been to this beach before a coupe of times and you might remember me saying this is the beach Heath Ledger used to hang out at. It was a great way to spend the day and it's one of my favorite beaches.... read more

The last few days have been the most perfect weather. Never a cloud in the sky. Today I sat by the pool and read a book one of the girls in my room had. I hopped in and out of the pool all day to cool off. The YHA in Perth has a free pool and a gym for it's guests. The pool is really nice and clean. It's so nice to just sit and relax by the pool. Kylie from Southern Cross and a few of the other girls were coming into Perth tonight as their mates Karen and Kenny were getting married the next night. I got myself ready and walked down to the hotel the girls were staying. Me and Jade caught up on all the gossip while we waited for the other ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Perth » Perth City March 23rd 2011

In the morning I headed straight to The Job Shop to check out about work. I had a chat with the girls there and had mentioned to them about my friend Jo working out in New Norcia and that a job might be coming up there and they had just found out about it themselves. So within an hour of that conversation i got a call from the boss at New Norcia and the job was mine! Only thing was that it doesn't start until April 3rd. I'm super excited to head out to New Norcia and just happy to see my bank account growing instead of draining again. I head out there on a bus on April 3rd. It's only about an hour and half north of Perth so not too far but there is ... read more

My last day in Sydney was raining once again so I got myself all packed up and checked out but just stayed at the hostel all day working on my computer and job searching. Not a very exciting day really. I decided to head to the airport a bit early so I hopped into a shuttle and got out to the airport. My flight to Perth went out as normal but didn't arrive into Perth until 11:15pm. I had to wait until 12:30am for a shuttle into the city so I didn't get in to my hostel until 1am. Not so fun coming into a full room in the dark and having to make my bed and even worse, a top bunk! Ah well, so glad to be back in WA!!!!!... read more

The weather still wasn't cooperating but at least it wasn't pouring out. Back on my Europe trip I met two girls from Australia when I was in Italy and the three of us travelled together for a few days. Alissa who I met up with again in Melbourne and Elissa who lives in Sydney. Elissa and I decided to head out for lunch and a catch up on one of my last days in Sydney. She picked me up from the hostel and we headed out. She took me to a great view spot where you could see Manly. We also had lunch at a pub on the sea. It was really nice and so great to catch up with her. I always love meeting up with people I've met on trips again because they really ... read more

We were all up early and got mom and dad packed up. We went down to the entrance of our hotel to find a big cherry picker partly blocking the entrance. Mom and dad had ordered a shuttle to come and pick them up and take them to the airport. It was pouring rain out and there was no sign of the shuttle. We called them and were rudely told that the streets were flooding and they'd be better off getting on the train to the airport. They couldn't wait any longer so we called a cab for them which arrived within 5 minutes. After struggling with getting the luggage out the doorway we said our goodbyes and I watched my parents drive off. I headed back upstairs to pack up my own stuff and checked ... read more
