Today we mainly just enjoyed the sun and relaxing time we had. My tan is really coming along nicely. We also organized a spa day for tomorrow at a place not far from our hotel. We decided to venture out in the early evening to look at some shops on our way to Seminyak. I saw lots of things that caught my eye but didn't buy anything...yet. We saw a beautiful looking hotel with a bar so we popped in for a drink before dinner. We hopped in a cab to Seminyak. We had heard about a restaurant called Rumors. We managed to find it and after a 5 minute wait we were brought to a table. The food was amazing! I had Chicken fettucini alfredo and it was one of the BEST i've ever had. ... read more

We spent the morning sitting by the pool and reading. We also all signed up for our free massage. We get a free massage from our hotel for booking in longer then 3 nights. So, Laura went first and came back after an hour saying that it was nice but a little bit painful. Then Ashleigh went and came back and said that it was fine. So my turn. Keep in mind this is only my second massage in my lifetime and my first massage was a 3 hour long Thai massage that was...well a bit of an experience. So, I hop up on the table and it starts off really nice. Getting the legs massaged and then she moves up to my back. OUCH! She climbed on top of the table as well and really ... read more

First off: HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!! We were up early this morning to drive to Ubud, a town in the rice fields area of Bali. We arrived just before 9am when our cooking class was to start. There was about 12 people in our class. The first thing we did was walk over to the market not far from the restaurant. Our instructor went over all the vegetables and spices they use in Balinese cooking. The market was really busy and it was a really fun experience. Back at the restaurant we started the class. Unfortunately this class wasn't one where we got to do the actual cooking. It was more demonstrated to us and occasionally some of us could go up and help her. We got a cookbook that we could take home. We got to ... read more

We decided to just relax by the pool this morning and wait until the afternoon to head out on a little drive out of this part of Bali. We got some sun and then went to a little local restaurant by our hotel for lunch. Such good food! Another couple from our hotel also wanted to head out so the driver from our hotel picked us all up at 2pm. Our driver, Robbie took us first to Padang Padang beach. It's a nice beach but to get to it from the parking lot we had to go down heaps of stairs and some of the stairs are built out of the rocks. We spent about an hour and a half at the beach enjoying the sun, watching the surfers and the fishermen. We then decided to ... read more

After breakfast the three of us headed down to Kuta beach also known as Double 6. The waves are really big here and there is only a small spot on the beach to swim at. There are heaps of people just waiting to sell you something, give you a massage, sell you a beach chair. It's not as relaxing as a beach should be! So we walked down the beach from Legian to Kuta and then found a really nice hotel across from the beach. We lounged by the pool soaking up the sun and having a few drinks. I tried my first Bintang beer. The local beer here in Bali. It's actually really good and very cheap here. We hopped in the pool to cool off for a bit. After thst we walked into Kuta ... read more

I was up early this morning to get out to the airport for my flight to Bali! So excited it was hard to sleep the night before! I hopped on the plane at 9:30am and by 1:30pm I was in Indonesia! Upon arrival you have to pay $25 US for your visa which they put into your passport and then I went through customs which was all quite easy. I had arranged a pick up with my hotel before I left Perth so when I walked outside I searched and searched for my name or the hotel name, but found nothing. When you walk out of the airport there are tons of Balinese men holding up signs for various hotels with people's names on them. I waited around for atleast a half an hour before I ... read more

Well the month of April and May didn't go by very fast for me. There isn't really much to say about this time. I spent 6 days of the week working and the rest of my time was spent searching things on the internet and figuring out my plans for the rest of my trip. By the start of June the countdown was on until this day: My final day of work!!! YES! It felt sooo good to be finished. 2 new girls came to replace Laura and Ashleigh and Cassidy came back to replace me. Cassidy is the girl that I replaced when I started here. The 2 new girls are french. A lot of things will be changing in New Norcia after I leave. The managers of the pub have decided to quit as ... read more

Easter was a mad rush of people all weekend as Anzac day fell on the day after easter as well. Anzac day is similar to our remembrance day in Canada. Anzac stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps. So, we had 5 days of easter/anzac madness in the hotel. It didn't really feel like easter for me as it was so busy and I was working all the time. On the Thursday Anne who I had only met when I first came here but became a really close friend was leaving. It was a sad day for us all! Our little Irish firecracker! In her place a boy named Oliver from Mauritius came. At the same time the owners two sons Richard and James were also leaving. So, 2 new girls also started. Ashliegh and Laura ... read more

After work Hipolito, one of the chefs invited us over for dinner of Filipino food. He came and picked up me and Anne as Jo didn't want to go. We got to meet his adorable family, 3 young boys. While we waited for the food he put on a travel show about the Philippines. He made us a beef dish, pork crackle, rice, and a stir fry noodle dish. It was all really really yummy. His wife made us Creme Caramel for dessert. Sooooooooo goooood! It was a good evening with great food and good company!! ... read more

Oh man, I can't even tell you how freaky it is to see a BIG spider looking at you!!! Well, this happened to me one night in the staff "cottage". I was getting up from my chair when I noticed the big SPIDER looking at me with it's beady little eyes. Anne decided the best thing to do is Raid the bugger. So as she sprayed raid on it all these little black things started coming off of it. We thought the spider might be dead but then it started to move and ran into the hallway. All three of were freaking out by this point. We went into the hallway but couldn't find it. We have a big inflatable crocodile in the hallway for the pool as I lifted it as Anne was ready to ... read more
