So, we finally got around to starting a travel blog. Sorry we took so long, we have just been really really busy. Between laying on the beach and hammock time, the day just slips away. Anyways we will try to remember the important stuff or at least some stuff.

It has been a long time since my last posting (sorry mom) but i will try my best to backtrack through my memory as best i can. When we left the islands in Belize we began a 10 hour bus ride back to Guatemala. The only thing that got me through that ride was the Don Williams cd that they were playing. No, in all seriousness it wasn't that bad. The scenery made up for the motion sickness. We were in a rickety chicken bus driving down a thin dirt road with jungle on either sides. I really think that the pictures don't quite do the jungle justice. For miles and miles there are only green trees and a few palm huts inbetween. We crossed the border back into Guatemala in the sketchiest customs station ... read more

For the journey from Flores across the border into Belize, we opted for a ¨luxury¨ tourist shuttle. By luxery I mean the seat barely fit both of us and we were surrounded by a bunch of older people. (no offence) Anyways, even though the company was a little dry, it beats a 10 hour ride in a chicken bus. As soon as we crossed the border, the scenary was completely different. Belize definately has alot more money than Guatemala. The houses had real roofs and were made of more than bamboo and concrete. The best best best part about Belize is that for the short time we were there, we understood what people were saying! You have no idea how wonderful it is to actually understand a language. English is so beautiful. In Guatemala we say ... read more

The trip to Flores was brutal. It started in the afternoon with 2 shuttles to Guatemala City, that part wasn´t too bad but then we hopped on a bus at about 9 at night and drove across the entire country to Flores. It was a 10 hour journey, no stops, no bathroom breaks. It sounded like a good idea to take a bus in the night, you go to sleep and wake up at your destination, but that only applies if you can actually sleep. Unfortunately for us we pulled an all nighter. Flores is kinda a cool place. It´s an island in the middle of a big big lake. The first day we arrived we walked around half the island and found it a little boring and dull. Later, we walked around the other half ... read more

Woohoo! Definately our favorite spot in Guatemala so far. We planned on staying and studying for 2 weeks and ended up staying for a month. It´s really great here. Monterrico is a hard place to describe because it is just a tiny quiet town right on the ocean during the week, but on the weekend tons of tourists come in to enjoy the beach. Personally I like it better during the week when we are the only whities roming the one street town. There were many many nights when we were the only people at our hotel. I think we don´t like other tourists anymore, slightly hypocritical seeing as how we are tourists, but its just the truth. The heat of Monterrico is something else. It was an average of 40 degrees and heaving humid air. ... read more

So, we finally got around to starting a travel blog. Sorry we took so long, we have just been really really busy. Between laying on the beach and hammock time, the day just slips away. Anyways we will try to remember the important stuff or some stuff. Well, we finally arrived in Guatemala City after 24 hours of changing planes and pretending we knew what we were doing. God bless the soul of the girl we met who spoke spanish! She was most helpful in finding us a taxi to Antigua. Antigua is probably the cutest little colonial town ever, but it was a little scarey at first. Its getting better... at least now we know how (and where) to order dinner. For a couple days we made sure we were in our hotel by the ... read more
