Cameron Highlands
Cameron Highlands
The Insect-eating Pitcher Plant
so I'm still here in this beautiful place drinking tea... and eating strange malaysian fruit. I havn't quite worked up to the durian yet but I've tried the rambutan (this red hairy looking fruit sort of similar in taste to the lychee). went for a hike today back up to the highest point and got my foot caught in a bit of mud... oh well. I don't think my socks will ever be the same though. got lazy and decided to hitchhike back to town which was fun and actually safe. I'm heading back to KL tomorrow! random observations about malaysia: [View Full Entry]

Cameron Highlands
tea plantations galore!
So I've escaped from the big city of KL for a few days and gone to the Cameron Highlands. This is an absolutely beautiful place with rolling hills covered with jungle foliage and tea plantations. After taking a tour of a tea plantation this morning, I've become a bit disillusioned with flavoured tea. This stuff is the bottom of the barrel - its tea dust in a bag and infused flavours are added to cover up the taste of nothing! I think I'm going to have some real tea this afternoon with scones and locally made strawberry jam. [View Full Entry]

With that title I'm sure you're thinking this girl complains a lot for someone who just escaped -20 degree temperatures. True, however, the stickyness is not pleasant. So to recap the last few days... New Years was spent at a british pub surrounded by genuine ex-patriots and terrible 80s music. You would think something better went on in LA but not on the 3rd street promenade unless you wanted to pay $30 cover for some sleazy bar. The 18 hour flight was decent. There were advantages to being seated in the 2nd last row of the plane(row 62 to be precise) [View Full Entry]

I've arrived safe and sound in LA. The weather is a bit chilly but still better than blowing snow. We went out for cuban food at a restaurant called Versailles. The place was a bit dark and sketchy looking but I guess its part of the atmosphere. They did serve a pretty good Colombian steak. If you're ever at this place - try a soda called iron beer- a toss between vanilla and citrus pop. [View Full Entry]

The Adventures of Laura  Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jodhpur
As I've now finished school (for the time being) I've decided to travel once again. This time my adventures will take me to India with stopovers in Los Angeles and Malaysia... and yes I plan on staying away from coastal areas ravaged by many a tsunami. There may also be a possible separate trip to Australia, Thailand and Hong Kong. Wish me luck! [View Full Entry]
