wow so we've really got behind with this!!! picking up where we left off, we had a few more days in sleepy Hue spending lots more time with Mia and visiting some tombs. on the evening of day 23 we caught another sleeper bus up to Hanoi, while waiting for the bus we bumped into an English girl and guy called Sam and Lois and we've been traveling with them every since!! Day 24- 27 we arrived into a hectic Hanoi at 8am after a long 16hr bus journey and with our new found friends jumped in a taxi and spent the morning wandering the bustling streets trying to find a hotel, after much lounging we met back up and headed to book ourselves onto a boat tour of Halong bay for the next day, somewhere ... read more

Day18- After a bite to eat we headed to the boat to take us to the dive sites, it was a nice journey out passing the islands, fish farms and floating villages. the dives were quite good, but visability wasnt great. the 1st dive was by far the best as we got to explore some caves and swim through very tiny holes in them filled with shoals of fish. once we were back on dry land we showered up and headed for the louisiana brewhouse, a cool microbrewery looking out over the beach, were we promply ordered 2 crystal ales (this excited us greatly as it was the first propper beer we've found so far) the afternoon passed slowly and at 7pm we headed for the sleeper bus we were booked on to get to Hoi ... read more

Day13- Up bright and early for our 1st travel agent organised day trip!!!! it was the cheapest way to see the Cu Chi tunnels so it had to be done. we had an amazing tour guide called tohng, he was 59 and had been an english teacher in the mekon delta for twenty years, who had got a bit bored so decided to have a change and practice his 'conversational' english by working as a guide, where at some point on one of the trips he had been presented with a book off 'australian slang' subsequently he kept coming out with phrases such as 'pig in shit' 'sweating like a pig' 'on the wagon' etc. it was rather amusing. on the way to the tunnels we went to the Cao Dai temple which was beautiful and ... read more

Day 11 - We decided it was time to move on. So with a 6am start and a 13hour journey including 2 different buses and a border crossing whilst still feeling the effects of a skin full of beer the night before, we made our way to Vietnam, its not the way to go believe us!! having said that the free snacks and water from the bus hostess did make the first leg back to phenom penh easier. the tasty treats, late night and early start resulted in us sleeping most of the way. that was four hours down only nine more to go!!! it continued much the same after a 2hour break and a spot of lunch we caught our bus connection and ambled to the border whilst sampling even more tasty (?) treats this ... read more

The Journey South

Day7- our heads a little sore we were late to rise so rushed to get packed up and catch a minibus to the bus station, luckly they were late themselves. the bus journey was reasonably harmless only a little uncomfortable but the Cambodian karaoke music they played the whole way was torture, also the cup holder by our seats had a lovely little surprise in store for us- it was full of what looked like insect legs!!??!! it wasn't until we past through a bustling little village market we spotted a lady walking around with a tray on top of her head piled high with what looked like crispy chard cockroaches for sale by the handful, so the previous occupants of our seats must have passed the journey snacking on a tasty treat (but didn't care ... read more

So few days have past yet so much to tell, to pick up where we left off, on Tuesday night we braved a Thai reastraunt called hemlock, it was the start of the wakening of our tastebuds. Ad had a sort of yellow coconut curry that was divine, I braved the red curry rated 1*/3 for hotness... It blew my mouth off yet I couldn't stop eating it, it was so good. Day 3- had a bit of a nightmare trying to sort out the Cambodian visas, while we waited for them to reply to our many emails we took a longboat to trang cha and explored the grand palace and the temple of the emerald buddah, it was serene, tranquil and breathtakingly beautiful so much so ad managed to take 80+ photos in around an ... read more
