I arrived in Guadalajara yesterday around noon and was just delighted on my first exposure to the city. I spent all afternoon walking around the 15th C Cathedral. It is surrounded by 4 plazas each with it's own claim to fame. I entered the area from the south side and had to smile at the huge art deco gazebo . It is quite beautiful but a bit strange surrounded by buildings that are centuries old...mind you the scale of everything is European not North American...if you know what I mean . Wow...I had forgotten how much I enjoy walking on a beach. The first morning I was here I set out with a pedometer on my waist band and was amazed to read I had walked 6000+ steps on my morning constitutional . The tide was out and the fishermen were in with their catch so there were many people around . It is the end of the school holiday although there are a lot of people around I understand that there will be fewer of them next week. Well here we go again... I have been in the US since the 18th and have enjoyed my time with my sister and her family. As you know I love wee ones and we spent CHristmas with my nephew's family ...an 8 month old girl and a 24 month old boy...lots of fun. Currently we are at an RV rally and have spent the day at the beach...the temp was 82F although the water was quite cold. Life is hard... On the 3rd I will be leaving for Mexico and will spend a few days in Rincon Guybitos(phonetic spelling ) before [View Full Entry]

After a 29 hour journey I arrived in Regina last night @ 8pm...The city looked lovely with street lights on the snow... and my house was quite inviting!! I slept very well when I was finally horizontal but suspect the 12hour time change may take some adjustment. My adventure was wonderful !! WOW!! Is Dubai ever clean and orderly... My journey from India here was quite an interesting one. The airport trek in Chennai wasn't a problem. I had managed to get 4 1/2 hours of sleep in the evening and my prepaid cab was there to get me at the allotted time. Granted it was an old TATA car with lots of rust and dings in the exterior and many rattles and clanks as we drove , but it did the job. This is it folks...I'll be leaving India in @ 12 hours and I must say I'm excited ... THe bus from Mamalpuram was half empty and that took a lot of the excitement out of the 90 minute journey. My first impressions of Chennai were very good. It is a large vibrant busy city . THere are some really beautiful old buildings left from the British era as well as MANy new buildings of the last 20 years. My first bus journey ,from Pondicherry to Mamalpuram ,went off without a hitch. I was able to get on the bus a bit early and scored the single seat at the very front and had room to store my bags as well. Again I had an interesting time watching the world go by. This area of Tamil Nadu was quite severely struck by the tsunami. Over 10,000 people died. There are signs of reconstuction everywhere and evidence (plaques and posters ) of international involvement mostly by church groups.
