Ok so with no plans for the summer this year me and Rob have decided to head off and explore Europe. We've booked flights to Barcelona and have bought interail tickets which allow us to travel freely around 30 countries. That's about as far as the planning goes though. We're just going to see where the mood takes us.....hopefully somewhere I can get a nice tan!

Europe » Netherlands » North Holland » Amsterdam August 17th 2009

It's our final day of travelling! Can't believe it! Our interails have run out so no more trains for us! Amsterdam has been a good giggle. Our hotel is so nice, it's called Hotel Artemis. It's quite far out of the main city ring though so we have to get a bus in each day. We are very hungover today of course so taking it easy until we fly home tomorrow afternoon. It will be so strange being back in England, we have seen so many amazing things on this trip! Looking forward to catching up with everyone though.... read more

Europe » Germany » Rhineland-Palatinate » Mainz August 14th 2009

We are staying in Mainz along the Rhein Valley. We arrived in good time in the early afternoon yesterday then decided to be productive and go and book our final train tickets for Amsterdam. We searched for ages at the train station but couldn´t find a ticket office so hopped on a quick train to the main Mainz train station which took 3 mins but unfortunately we "hopped" on the wrong train back so instead of travelling 3 mins back to our hotel we ended up an hour out into the Countryside where there were no trains back! Luckily (?) we met a nice english speaking German guy on the train who helped us get a bus back (which took another hour!). How typical! We treated ourselves to a nice Mexican after the ordeal though. Today ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich August 12th 2009

We are quite tired today but Munich has still been very lovely. We´ve done a lot of cities so we steered clear of the shops today and headed to the riverside instead. We found a lush foresty park and chilled there for a while before noticing some people surfing on the one big wave the river created, it was so cool! We got some good photos of that. Still lacking in energy so propbably just going to chill tonight with Mel and her boyfriend before (hopefully) heading to Mainz tomorrow as we really want to find at un-city-like place to have a nice day out and the Rhine Valley near there looks perfect. Can´t believe we only have a week left, time has flown by!... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Nuremberg (aka Nürnberg) August 11th 2009

It´s great to be staying with a friendly face here in Germany! We,ve been exploring Nurnberg today and there´s lots more to see than we thought there would be! The streets are so pretty, mainly cobbled with a river runing through. We walked up the Imperial Castle which had an amazing view then went to the Neues Musuem which had some really funky, modern exhibits - we loved it. There are lots of shops here too and we went in a lovely Cathedral. It´s really good seeing Mel (hi if you´re reading this Mel!) and her boyfriend Rob is really nice (and their new flat!) More exploring now then Munich tomorrow hopefully. Hi to everyone at home. x... read more

Europe » Czech Republic August 9th 2009

We went to a Salvador Dali exhibition today, we both remember his art from GCSE. It was really weird but we really enjoyed it. We also went up to the Royal Gardens which were beautiful but it's so hot we didn't last very long in the heat. We've been having such a giggle and taken lots of photos. It's been really useful having a kitchen in the last couple of places we've stayed in, managing to cook real food really cheaply (Rob's introduced me to eggy bread!) We also had an authentic czech meal out last night (thanks Robin and Alice!) We bought the funniest souvenier today - it's a 3D photograph of us lazered into a crystal cube, it's a great momento! Germany tomorrow.... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague August 8th 2009

We enjoyed a few much needed drinks in Prague last night. It was really good exploring the city at night (while drinking!). We've been exploring today too and really love it here, it's chilled out but also busy, the river is so nice. We have been lucky enough to see the Prague Castle at night and in the daytime aswell as to walk across the Charles Bridge, we got some fantastic photos. We have another day tomorrow so might get a boat out on the river.... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna » Vienna August 6th 2009

Vienna has been so good today! We met a really nice Australian girl and walked around a Palace and it's amazing gardens with her. There was a great maze with all kinds of fun parts to it like water sprays and morphing mirrors - we felt like big kids playing on it all. We tried the local cuisine - weiner schnitzel, was actually very yummy. The owner gave me free champage now which was great but unfortunately Rob was given a small glass of this really weird, strong alcohol that tasted like medicine. The man was really nice though and said it was from the heart. We explored the main big street of shops (I bought another book so have three for this trip now!). The shops were very different to the cobbled streets and horse ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna » Vienna August 5th 2009

It took us 16 hours from the time we left our hotel in Milan to the time we got to our hostel in Vienna (nightmare!). It's nice here though, kind of how we imagined Austria in our heads - saw amazing mountains on the way, great buildings, even horse and carts! We had a nice drink or 2 in a bar for the first time on this whole trip which was great! Met some great people in the hostel which is cool, had a randomer stay in with us last night which was weird and scary (for me!). Off to explore more tomorrow........ read more

Europe » Italy August 3rd 2009

Milan is so amazing! The shops are fantastic, we spent hours looking around them! The buildings are amazing too. We had our first bit of rain but that's okay because it's still very hot. We thought we'd booked a dorm in a hostel but turns out it's another double with a balcony. It was very hot last night though and very loud outside with the traffic so with my cold I hardly slept. Managed to find a pharmacy today so have taken some tablets which have worked their magic. Absolutely loving exploring Milan, it's so swanky and exciting. Managed to get a very cheap underground ticket so been on and off them all day exploring different parts of Milan. After only having a few grapes for breakfast and bread sticks for lunch (in true backpackers styleeee) ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice August 1st 2009

Nice has been very nice! It's been very hot again and the colour of the sea is to die for! We took a walk up lots of steps to Parc du Chateau along the Tour Bellanda where the panoramic views were amazing. The heat was a bit much for me though and I nearly passed out at the bottom. Have had to spend the rest of the day in the hotel room. Hoping to have full strengh for italy tomorrow!... read more
