What a fantastic journey! - From: Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu
Hey guys, So sorry to hear of your sad news, I'm really pleased that you were able to make it to both funerals despite the difficulties you endured. I have loved reading your tales of your adventures and it's been fantastic to see all your photos. Dave is right in saying the last ones from MP are absolutely stunning. It's somewhere I've always fancied going and you really have inspired me to try and do something about achieving my own travel goals! Really looking forward to a proper catch up chat sometime in the not to distant future. It's dawned on me that I have no idea what your plans were for your return.....

Back home in the USA! - From: The Future's So Bright...
Good to know they let Lachlan back into the country. So glad you were able to spend time w/ Shelly & DeAnn & family. Is it weird being back in a country where MOST everyone speaks English? We are suppose to have more snow this week. Maybe we will have snow when you come back home in Mar! It was so good to talk to you the other night. DeAnn filled us in on how you looked & Lachlan's scar & if you are healthy. You get a thumbs up! Only 2 more months & then it is back to the real world. Will you be ready? Have a good time in South America. Joe, your cousin, says not to go to Columbia or Nicauragua or Bolivia. Americans disappear there. Still miss you. What do you want to eat when you get home? Some pasta? LOVE MOM!!!! Give me a list of food I can fix.

leaving - From: The Future's So Bright...
It looks like you found a great place to end this part of your trip. The scenery is great and seems to be an idealic place to relax and take life easy. You will be back in the U.S. by the time that you read this and it will all be a memory. The beach bungalow looked a little questionable. It looks like Lachlan sitting on the bed(?) in the shadows. I look forward to talking to you both about your whole trip when you are back.

The photos are great as usuall. The Buddha statues are different that what you usually think of (a sitting fat guy). Glad you are finding things more relaxing. I not sure who has the worst hairdo Ernst or Lachlan. I'm thinking maybe Lachlan. I was glad to see that Ernst is holding together well through all the traveling. Think of us while you are basking in the sun over Christmas as we have about 6-7" of snow and is below 32 degrees F. Thanks for the emails.

Will we recognize you @ the airport?! Those massages sound awesome. Can you mail back a person to do those massages here? The weather sounds so nice, we are suppose to have 2-4" of snow today. Don't you miss fighting traffic to get to work in a snowstorm? There are SO many things to look forward to when you get back home. Do they celebrate Christmas @ all there? Hershey says "HI!". She is missing you. Too bad you can't get to Vietnam. Dad & I have such "fond" memories of that place from the 60's & 70's. So glad you are having a good time, just be safe & be careful of what you eat. Will be you satisfied w/ my home cooking when you get back home? What about barbecued ribs--Lachlan--making you hungry yet? Waiting for you to call again soon. Enjoy your pictures! LOVE MOM!!!!

I'm sorry to hear you've hit reality in India with the poverty. You'll never look at things the same. However, Goa is the party capital of India! Think Key West during spring break! WOW! Sounds um... uh.. interesting. I defintaly would not want to be an 8-11 yr old there. No thanks! Or Muslim for that matter. Glad to hear that you two were not the Americans attacked by the bear in Romania. So is mom for that matter. She called me yesterday (wed 6-27) morning panic-y wondering if I had heard from you cause she hadn't and was worried. FYI- you guys owe me for this. :-p

Thanks and good luck - From: Births near deaths marriages and the keyboard from HELL
Glad you made it to edinburgh ok (well I assume you did as Granny and Grandand seem to have got there!) Thanks for all the hard work which helped make the wedding go so well. Ken and Jo are wet and muddy at Glastonbury. Of all the places to choose for a honeymoon!! We got back yesterday after lots of walks and consuming more whale sized fishes at Hope Cove. Good luck with the travel plans. Let us know (sometime) when you will be coming back. Love, Christine

So you should be in Istanbul, hopefully safely after your 10 hr layover in London. Do you remember this is Brendan's birthday--everyone stand up & cheer--Happy Birthday, Brendan!! He is 25 yr old. Haven't seen anything on your blog--you need to update it. Is it really 93 degrees in Istanbul like the newspaper says? Same degrees here!! This is the longest day of the year & first day of summer & Brendan's birthday!! Miss you, hope your are having fun in your travels. Would love to see some pictures of the wedding & where you went in Cornwall & Devon. How was your bestman toast/speech, Lachlan? Hershey says "HI"! Be safe & call sometime!!

Aren't you hungry for peanut butter & ribs yet? I am sure they don't have those things. We are saving the Marmit for you, Lachlan, that you left here. Seems pretty quiet around here. Brendan & Jane come back on Tues. We got the short straw--we have the dogs! Have a good time. You'll love Devon & Cornwall. The coast is beautiful. The B&B's are nice there. Give Ernst a kiss for me, maybe that will perk him up. Have a good time & don't forget to drive on the LEFT. Take care on those roundabouts! KEEP LEFT---Right Karen?! LOVE MOM!!!!CALLSOMETIME!!!!

That book is called "Shantaram". I'm not sure I like being described as delinquent so many times, maybe carefree or super-cool would be better?

Hope you have a safe trip today. I am so impressed with how much (actually, how little) you guys packed for 10mos. I would pack that much for just one week! I am so envious of light packers. Looking forward to seeing Ernst in many photos -Katie

luck of the ernst - From: About to leave
If you find that you're having a rough day, or you're just feeling a bit blue, here's what you do. Pull out our little friend, Ernst. Rub his little screwy bully, flap his arms, shake him slightly to hear him rattle, then, holding him close to your chest, turn three circles whilst repeating "ernst, ernst, ernst", stop spinning and immediately kiss your spouse (who is witnessing the ritual). It is guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face. Lots of love!

Mace... - From: The Happiness of the Countdown...and the Sadness
Cousin Ken... you are most likely right. Mace is quite possibly NOT allowed in the UK... along with all the other things that seem so readily available over here (nothing major... AK47s... bazookas... fingerprint resisitant quick-fire pistols.... etc)! ;P I picture the horrible instance when I try to blag it in as 'deodorant'... a la fresh prine of belair... ouch...!

only three pairs of... oh, I see you mean pants, not pants.. anyway. Are you allowed to bring mace into the uk? I suppose you are, you'll need it in scotland.

No matter what you do, don't forget to take your "Cardinal" shirts with you!!! I need to see pictures of you wearing them in front of a Thai Buddist temple or something.

Plus i think you should try and factor in Budapest, the place will look fabulous in the summer And you should defo buy some citi guides and get a rough idea of what you want to see, do, so you dont end up wasting time in internet cafes. Im guessing you have already done this though. If you are able to spend more time in Europe...rail card in advance? Laters

My first questions are: Ready. Question 1: Have you written your speach for your cousin yet? Question 2: Are you going to take any towels? Question 3: How much do you both earn per year :p

What's a Mom to do!! Thought we had raised a quiet, practical kid. Who's interested in going to see them in Aug in Edinburgh? Good golfing, cooler than St. Louis in Aug & Lachlan says "better take away food". June 6 will be here before we know it. Not ready to say good bye.

Congratulations to both of you! I'm interested in hearing how you'll store all the photos from this. Are you doing disposables or taking a dozen memory cards?? Also, Loddy, since you had such success with Brigid, when you get back I'm leaving Anthony with you for a week in hopes he'll come back with a taste for more exotic things. (meaning something besides chicken breast)
