Sunday 13th July After two fantastic days in Paris I was on the move again and this time headed for Prague, Czech Republic. I had looked into the costs of flying but with my luggage the prices became way too expensive and trains are pricey too. It was going to cost me a minimum of €125. So I looked into the idea of ride sharing. My Airbnb host in Montpellier, Mohamed had told me about this website called BlaBlaCars which is basically the travel version of Airbnb. People advertise where they are travelling, the different drop off points they can make and then you ride with them on their journey. I admit that it does sound a little dodgy but as I looked at the website and read peoples reviews I felt more and more comfortable ... read more

Friday 11th July This was my 2nd trip to Paris having visited a week ago but for only two short days. This time instead of staying in a hostel I chose to Airbnb my own tiny apartment in a funky area called Menilmontant. The flat was situated on a street filled with cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, galleries and music venues making it interesting and exciting but of course very noisy at night (lucky for me Dad had given me some ear plugs just for this type of emergency). The apartment belonged to Thomas, a musician in a rock band. He met me at the apartment, quickly showed me everything I needed including my own toilet that was located outside the flat in its own room in the hall. The toilet proved an interesting find as it ... read more

My first trip to Paris

I left London on Tuesday 1st July. This day marked a month that I had been away from home travelling. So it seemed fitting that I after a month I should embark on my next adventure of exploring a new country, a country where I don't speak the language. I departed London at 7pm on a Eurostar train. I was so shocked when passing through security that they barely looked at my British passport and let me though. It was so different from security back in Aus where they are so thorough and safety conscious. The train ride was quick and painless, arriving at the Gare de Nord station in Paris in 3hrs. The only strange thing on the journey was that the train was moving so fast my ears could ... read more

My 2nd Week in London

This week has been far less touristy and filled with much more dance. My 1st week was my 'explore historic places you crazy Tudor nut week' and this week was focused on getting back in touch with my body by taking different dance classes and by watching a variety of different dance shows for inspiration. So a chunk of this blog will be filled with my class experiences and my thoughts on several shows. So if this is not your cup of tea then feel free to skim read :)

I am writing the 1st half of this blog from my little 'cubby' on the boat. My room since my cousin William got back from Holiday and moved back into his room where I was staying. The cubby has no ... read more

Staying on the boat has made it really easy for me to get around and explore the city easily. It only takes me about 25 minutes till I am under the London Eye and across the Thames to Big Ben. Walking back to the boat at night has become something I really enjoy. The sun sets around 10:30pm whilst I am walking which covers me in a beautiful pink and orange light. It's so beautiful but no matter how many times I try to capture it, my camera does not do the scene justice. Tuesday Tower of London. I first came here in 2000 with my mother when I was ten. It was here that my interest for the Tudors started. Then I had learned how two of Henry VIII's wives Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard ... read more

Monday 16th
Today I awoke to an empty boat. Everyone had left early for work and thought I had the place to myself. However some Thames friends decided to visit....a special ducked named Gary (Nick who also lives on the boat had warned me about Gary, and told me that he regretted naming her Gary after realising she was a she) and a few geese who flew into the kitchen wanting bread for breakfast. Once everyone was fed I set off walking into London, with no plan of what to do. It took as little as 20 minutes until I was standing under the London Eye ferris wheel. I decided to take a ride on the wheel to get a good view and to see where was close by to visit on foot. The view ... read more

I arrived on Saturday by train with Aunty Janet. It was a good to have her with me to help balance me at times when I struggled to get used to the weight of my travel pack. It totally throws out my balance and stamina. When changing trains we had to briskly walk up a flight of steps and found I was puffed by the top of the stairs. I now know what the biggest losers feel like when they have successfully lost their weight and the trainers pad them up with 20 or 30kg of sandbags for a last training session. My cousin Robyn met us at the station and walked us back to where she lives. My cousins Robyn and William are lucky enough to live right in the centre of London on the ... read more

Saturday 7th June. Today was the start of my first weekend overseas which meant that Auntie Janet had time off work to spend with me. We met up two of her friends from work Ulrika and Sara, and Maren (the German exchange student staying with Janet) and set off to go visit a Farm Shop & Cafe in Forrest Row. The shop was really close to wear Janet lives, taking only 15 minutes to walk to. As we were walking up to the farm we saw a pen with little piglets suckling their mother. It was so good to see how healthy the pigs all looked and how well cared for they all were. They had space to roam around and mud to roll in. At the farm shop there was a fruit and vegetables stand ... read more

Thursday 5th June Living here I am getting used to the ever changing weather. Having to wear multiple layers each day to strip off and add more as the day weather continues in its indecisive behaviour. I woke this morning to the most beautiful day. Actually I woke up at 4:30am which is not very pleasant, but the sun comes up at that time! Here we have approximately 16.5hrs of sunlight a day (normally 4:30am-9:30pm). A contrast from Canberra's winter 9.5hrs! It does make it easier to wake early. I seem to wake at 6am feeling alert and energised which is not a feeling I have ever felt in Australia at 6am! Waking up to a lovely summer English day I set out on the bus to Brighton. The ride took 1.5hrs along tiny little roads ... read more

Since I have been here I have been struggling with not being busy and stressed. Before I set out on this trip I was working three jobs, helping Mum and Dad with their move to Sydney, temporarily moved in with Cathie, attempted to finish all my concert dances at my schools, did a two week dance development with Cadi McCarthy, taught professional classes for AusdanceACT, planned my brothers bucks night, celebrated his wedding to Maddy, all the while trying to see as many people as I could before leaving and spending the quality time I had left with McGee. I'm not complaining because everything that was going on was enjoyable, I had just a little too much on my plate. I had been stressed and burnt out for such a long time. Now with all this ... read more
