We have banked up some leave and are taking another break in Australia. We hope to avoid some of the more commercial stuff and do a bit outback. We fly into Perth to meet family. Then over to Melbourne to meet freinds. Followed by a flight to Darwin to meet up with our eldest daughter and boyfriend. The vehicle is bought and fully prepared. It has been serviced by the best Mechanic in WA at J&K Autos in Perth so there shouldn't be any problems. Toyota Landcruiser, 4.2 diesel, 4WD, long range fuel tanks, Engel fridge and all the camping gear with tent on top. It's currently being driven by Lisa and friend from Perth to Darwin, up the West Coast, through the Kimberleys, into the Northern Territory and ending in Darwin. They fly back to the UK and we take the vehicle back down to Perth. I hope we have enough time to add to this blog and that you don't find it too boring.
The phrase for the trip is:
"Don't forget to have a beer before the sun goes down!"
If you remember this, you will be sure to have everthing set-up before it gets dark!

27/07/06 Up just after 7-00 and left for Kununurra at 8-00. Went through the Western Australian Border and into town by 9-00am as clocks went back by 90 mins. Booked into Kona Lakeside Park for 2 nights in a cabin and booked a tour for tomorrow. Into town had a good look round after a coffee. Parked outside visitor centre and someone told us we had a flat tyre and sure enough we did. Went round the corner to Beaurepaires who advised us to have new, as tyres were not good at all. So 2 new tyres later and $548 poorer we filled up with diesel and went back to cabin at 2-00pm. Lovely room no ensuite but big and clean and cool. Unpacked a bit and went to Ivanhoe Crossing, Bim drove over I watched ... read more

Hi everyone. If you haven't already guessed it by now, we are back home. It took so long to do the blogs and time was limited in Internet Cafe's that we are completing it here from Home. And besides, who wants to spend all there spare time in these places when your on holiday?? So this is the balance of our Trip. It is long and there are loads of photos. We have HUNDREDS more and may rationalise them one day and put them on the web somewhere, we'll see. We had a great time and really want to do it again with more places to visit over there. We're keeping the Krooza for the time being as Sara says she want to "have a go" as well and we may also use it again in ... read more

22/7/06 Up around 7-30am awake long before lots of human movement people leaving early. Left the campsite at 9-00am and went back to Nourlangie rock more rock art and a look out. Back to main road and turn off for Jim Jim Falls, 60 kms of 4WD 2 other vehicles turned in just in front of us. Well when we got there after getting bogged twice (4WD became disengaged) it was heaving in the car park a job to find a parking place. 250m to a look out which was ok though very hot and a km to the falls over lots of huge rocks. I didn’t make it too hot and too heavy going over these huge boulders it was rock climbing not walking. Bim took lots of photos so all was not lost. By ... read more

Changed and went to find Mindl beach for the sunset market, via Nightcliffe area and the car wash which was desperately needed. Lots of market stalls and several street entertainers, had sweet and sour chicken and a fresh fruit shake. Got back to car to find Lisa had texted a bit stressed and overtired arriving home after 28 hours of not sleeping properly. Tried to phone using phone card when we got back with no joy. 17/7/06 Up before 8.00am to pack and shoot off around 9.00am into Litchfield National Park. Saw huge Magnetic termite mounds. 5/7/06 Another beautiful sunny day and a chance to explore Kalamunda properly. Had lunch in Stirk Park reminding us of the carols we heard there in Dec 2000. Went into ANZ and changed our bank account so we didn’t accrue bank charges and looked round an old railway carriage, too late to visit Historic Village. Drove up to Gooseberry Hill and admired the wonderful views over Perth. Claire stayed for dinner again and watched a bit of Wimbledon. 6/7/06 Bim's day at work. Up early to find the hospital Bim was visiting for some rehab! Found it ok so popped out for a coffee to start the day. Went to Perth’s outlet village for a good wander and sampled a Subway for lunch, great will try one in the UK now. Drove up to Kings Park ... read more

Well we've arrived and our body clocks have almost properly adjusted. The first few days have been relaxing and doing the local things. It was early in the hours of Friday when we touched down at Perth Airport. The “front of plane" camera showed that the lights of Perth were still welcoming and that the landing was relatively smooth. Got to Jim and Karen's at 2.00am and spent a couple of hours talking before going to bed. Jim didn't, he went straight to work and by the time we turned in, Karen was getting up. We slept in and eventually got up at 3.00pm. Time for a swift walk around the block to wake us up. Later Claire popped in after school; she is on 10 weeks of practical, teaching in a local school. Left before ... read more
