We decided to make the most of having a stop over in Singapore, to stay an extra day and do some shopping and see the sights. We left our big backpacks at the airport and took little day packs with us.. Stepping out of the air conditioned airport was a shock... as a big wave of heat hit us! Stayed at this nice little hotel in the middle of a local area, we saw no tourists walking around there at all! Next day we went shopping(great shopping!!!) did the tourist thang, ie. the boat cruise and had a wonderful traditional lunch [View Full Entry]

Well...so much for the title. Everyone told us it was the 'City of love' but we didn't find a "lovely" french boy...I guess we will have to bring our future husbands back to really indulge in that part of the culture. We spent the last five days of our Europe road trip in Paris. We dropped our rental car off at the airport then caught train and metro back into the city. The rest of our experience was marvellous! Biking around to see the sights of Paris, going up the Effiel Tower, visiting the famous graveyard where people like Jim morrison [View Full Entry]

Had a wonderful time in this wee, quaint town located 45mins from Paris. WE stayed with Christian, this lovely french guy who is part of the couch surfing network. After a lovely dinner (duck) we went for a walk around the town to see this display of lights (festival called "Chartes en lumineres"), in which artists paintings were projected on old buildings around the city...pretty amazing!! Must admit that we were a little scaried heading back to France as the French round Europe don't have the best reputation especially if you don't speak French (and we don't speak a word of French)......BUT we haven't a bad word to say. Every single person we meet was so lovely and so helpful. We headed to Bordeaux first where we had a look around and did some washing just before an enormous thunderstorm hit. We were so hot and tired and over everything. The next day we did a chateaux tour around some french chateauxs and stopped at a cave brewery/restaurant. [View Full Entry]

After crossing back through Austria and stopping in Innsbrook (see austria journal for photos). AND making it to Lichtenstein! Had a wee look around the capital of Lichtenstein Vaduz before we crossed over the Switzerland. By this stage the temperature had dropped a good 10-15 degrees and we were getting pretty hungary as both Germany and Austria had a public holiday so nothing was open but the scenery in Switzerland was WORTH IT!!!!! We slept the night in the car....not the warmest and the next morning we headed to Zurich. After having a look round we headed to the north of [View Full Entry]

Arrived in Munich after spending yet another night on the road....and gave a call to the couchsurfing people we were staying with to let them know we had arrived. We were the first couchsurfs they had had so the red carpet was laid out for us ( thanks so much Dirk and Aneka). We went round and saw Munich that afternoon and the next morning .had an amazing breakfast feast......while listening to bFM. Nothing like a good old kiwi accent to start the day off right before we headed up the mountains to Switzerland..... Just a bit of history on munich... [View Full Entry]

After being woken up at 4.00am that morning at the carwash ( it was a big night for the boys).....tried to get a few more hours sleep before heading to Luxembourg. We decided to take the back roads through the north of the country and then head down to the capital. However we lost the road signs on the border and drove for the next hour hoping we were heading to Luxembourg city and not going in circles in and out of Luxembourg back into Belgium. All the roads signs just say Luxembourg! Fornunately our killer powers of navigation (honed after [View Full Entry]

The offical languages of Belguim are Flimmish (Dutch), German and french and everyone also speaks English...never knew which language we were meant to be speaking in which town but had fun trying. Headed to Antwerp first but only made it to the outskirts (after sitting in a traffic jam for an hour we decided to head to Bruges) Bruges was beautiful! Built behind an old walled castle with cobbled narrow streets it was amazing. Had a look around before heading to Brussells where we spent the night at a couch surfing place above a Carwash! Arrived to find that they aready [View Full Entry]

Arriving in the land of the Dutch was an experience we won't forget! Got pulled over by the boarder police...ams thought it was just a strange man on a motorcycle so waved and said "No Thankyou" and didn't pull over but when they turned on the sirens she worked it out fast! Checked our passports told us not to 'smoke' to much in amsterdam and away we went! We drove down to Den Haag and had a stroll around the parliament buildings and saw the royal castle (a beauitful city) before we headed to Rotterdam and Dordrecht. Stayed the night with [View Full Entry]

Spent a few days in Denmark...one on the way threw and one on the way back. We checked out the capital (Copenhagen) and went up north to zealand where we saw some of the oldest castles in europe and got truely lost on our way back down. We didnt realise we were lost until we hit the sea and realised we were out on a wee peninsula as far north as you can get on that island and not on our way back down south. Was a beautiful drive though and we did get to see some cute little villages and [View Full Entry]
