Yet another blog people can ignore me at (to not-so-eloquently paraphrase Rob B.).

Why Boston is considered a "walking city": poor advance signage scary driving one-way streets not indicated on any map I've seen streets that don't connect to streets that should traditional rules of the road don't apply (we've learned not to do the "don't proceed through an intersection unless you can clear it" rule,... people cut in front in the intersection and block it) changing street names More later. Must relax more today.... read more

05h30 wake up call. 1 hour to sort out the crazy Dollars to Euros to Crowns hotel bill. Shuttle ride to the airport. Checked in and through "security" an hour in advance. 1 extra hour waiting for airplane computer issues to get sorted out. 40 minute late landing in Amsterdam. Shuttle to terminal from tarmac. 25 minute walk to correct departure gate. Serious security to board KLM/NWA flight. Delay leaving due to computer issues (WTF?). 8.5 hour long flight (6.5 with crying baby, who could be heard over the three movies I watched). 6 hour wait in Minneapolis, which gave the TSA time to go through both my checked bags (enjoy the dirty laundry, boys). 1.75 hour long flight to Regina. Quick pass through Customs. 30 minute ride home. Only 25 hours without sleep.... read more

Gotta run before the 24 hour pass runs out (funny trivia 24 hours = 100Kc, but 72 hours = 330Kc,... what a deal!)....... read more

Got in at 19h00. Went for supper (awesome) in a gorgeous hotel (4.5 star) that is very expensive (over 200 euro per night). Tomorrow is a trip downtown and then a dinner cruise on the river. More later. Very tired.... read more

After a whirlwind tour through Innsbruck (Austria), Schloss Neuschwanstein and Oberammergau, we've ended up in Munich. I really liked Innsbruck (smaller and very near the mountains) and Neuschwanstein (what's not to like about a castle surrounded by forest and hiking trails). Oberammergau would have been better to see in 2010 (Passion Play). The jury (me) is still out with regard to Munich. I might need to wander around more. It could also be that I'm still suffering from architecture overload. I'll add photos at a later date when I can find a computer that has a USB port. Tired now, but that could have been a result of the beer I had for lunch.... read more

Awesome city! It's small,... maybe a bit bigger than Regina. Love the pedestrian-friendliness of it, too. Here's some photos from the last couple days. Picture worth 1000 words and all (plus it really slows me down tyüping on this silly German keyboard.... read more

Okay,... slightly less rushed post here. Please excuse the Z and Y transpositions, but they are reversed on the keyboard, so I sometimes mess up. Have just completed a whirlwind tour of Amsterdam (during layover) during which mom, who was walking in good shoes, but was wearing nylons in them, got huge blisters on her feet. She's a little slow right now.... Did a walkabout in Vienna yesterday. Karsplatz and Karlskirche. Then back to the hotel briefly and then off to a Mozart and Strauss concert in the Musikverein. This morning, a quick tour of a bunch of stuff,... stil have to sort through it all.... read more

5 hours to go. Am sufficiently pre-tired. "Pre-tired" is sort of like "pre-drinking", except that it doesn't involve booze. No wait,... "pre-tired" is nothing like "pre-drinking". So, my plan has been to get up 2 or 3 hours earlier than usual, which makes the time difference only +6 rather than +8. Next, on the 8 hour flight to Amsterdam, is to stay awake for the first hour, but then to sleep for at least 6 (17:00 to 23:00 here, 01:00 to 07:00 there). Unless my math is wrong, or the time zones don't work as I planned, I will have completely shifted to Austria time by the time was arrive in Vienna. I hope.... read more
