I’d like to introduce Lisa Seifert. She is a Head Start teacher from Minnesota. A trip to Africa has been her dream for many years. We are thrilled to have her teaching at Child of Excellence Primary School until the end of July. I have asked Lisa to write the blog entries during her stay as she will have a “fresh perspective” on this life and culture. Christine My African Adventure: The town of Dunkwa had many new sights for me. From the way stores look to what you find inside. The greetings and smiles you pass in town are so genuine and authentic. A few days after my arrival I visited two villages. Coming from America this was an amazing eye-opener of how much we have and what we consider necessities. Village people live without ... read more

April 2010 The farming season has begun in the northern hemisphere - From Kirk’s homeland of North Dakota to our chosen land Ghana. Man prepares the land and plants the seed; God takes care of the sun and water. Our trip to America seems like a dream. We often mention people, places and events. We voice our memories and share with Ghanaian’s the pictures and videos taken. After our amazing American Tour, we returned to Ghana and have settled back into daily life. Kirk spends much of his teaching time visiting new locations with a pastor, Bishop Eshun. He’s also teaching, a few days each week at a newly opened bible school in Dunkwa. On days he’s free from teaching he can be found “tending the land” in our village of Fenaso. My main focus has ... read more

I feel like I really dropped the ball concerning this blog the past few months. Last I wrote (early November) we were headed to Florida to sing in the sunshine, visit church, family and friends. While there we tossed in a quick visit with Shamoo and Mickey Mouse. Early December we headed back to North Dakota for Christmas and our final shopping and packing to return to Ghana. We left our "winter wonderland" at 5pm Dec 29th. We arrived in "endless summer" 8pm Dec 30th. God has been so incredibly amazing. The past 6 months were filled with dream after dream and wish after wish fulfilled. From perfect weather to great visits, events and homesteads. I don't have words to express it other then “God is so Faithful”. He longs to give us the desires of ... read more

In the past weeks I have realized that I really don't know the correct address for this blog site. I have taken the liberty of adding some people to our list of receipents. Some that should have been on the list a long time ago - I appologize - and some who were given an incorrect site address - I also apologize. If I was wrong and you really don't want to receive a notice and automatic link each time we make an entry, no problem, just hit the "unsubscribe" link and your name will be deleted. We had an uneventful trip from Michigan to Florida. Check out our friends house in the mountains of Tennessee . It's like sleeping in a cedar chest! Absolutely beautiful! The boys have been having a blast already. Auntie Lisa ... read more

As we drive away (from MI) Kirk is set on “the mission ahead”. The boys are a bit touchy and edgy. We are all saddened with “Good-bye”; In addition I am saddened by missing a visit with a few people; Saddened by not getting more visits with others. I am disappointed that, after all these years, I still haven’t gotten Kirk to Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum. A place I know he would love. It would be easy to stay in this saddened frame of mind but I have to “choose” to dwell on the positive aspects of our time in Michigan. They far outweigh the sadder side. I am reminded once again that I have a loving God. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”. ... read more

Culture Shock

Culture Shock ? Good Bye North Dakota, the most wonderful in-laws, “hero” uncles, horses, and fields ready for harvest, just to name a few. Hello Michigan and … culture shock. (??) Yep, we experienced it, mostly in the kitchen. In ND Kirks’ mother was the brain behind every meal. Kirk, Kwabena and I merely filled in the gaps. Now it is time for us to grow up and take care of ourselves. Time to plan, purchase and prepare our own complete meals. I hear you giggling. I’m not exaggerating when I say, we were all a bit perplexed as how to do this. In Ghana our food is completely different. There’s virtually nothing to compare between the two cultures. When I informed my brother Chris, “We will be cooking in the camper tonight” he laughed and ... read more

"Yelowstone", the Indians gave the name. As they would give directions they would say “pass the river by the yellow stone.” And a yellow stone it is. The mountain along the river is the most amazing yellow/orange color. I’m sorry my camera didn’t do it justice. The best part of our 5day trip was the drive from the town of Red Lodge into the northeast corner of Yellowstone. It’s a 30 mile drive we were told would take 2 1/2 hours. Ha! It took us a good 5hrs. In the car we had giggles and shrieks of fright (many from me) as we traversed the mountain roads to 10,000+ feet. We heard it had snowed in the mountains the previous week so we were on the lookout for remaining patches of the “chilly white”. We stopped ... read more

Wow, what an awesome Gift from God we are living. We arrived on US soil June 30th. I and the two boys (Kwabena and Praise) fell asleep on the way home from the airport. When we arrived in Lisbon, ND we walked in the door Praise flopped on the couch, I flopped next to him and Kwabena and Kirk both sprawled out on the floor. Finally, after 24hours of travel, we had the chance to get a good two hours of motionless sleep. I woke up at 8:30pm and even to my surprise, the sun shone brightly. I woke Kwabena telling him we have to force ourselves to wake up as we want to sleep well during the night. When he sat up I said, “Kwabena, it is 8:30 PM”. I repeated myself a few times ... read more

Woo Hoo! It has been a several months since my last posting. The main reason being, I had no news, nothing to say. As I mentioned before, I’m not teaching this term due to our US trip. Time has basically been spent doing what we could and “waiting”. Everyday ended with the thought, “maybe tomorrow” the exception being Fridays. We have been waiting for Kwabena’s visa situation to sort itself out. Today was the end of the “sorting”. Against all odds Kwabena was granted a visa to travel with us to the US. It has been a very long and grueling process. Finally we are at the end and there are so many wonderful, meaningful tidbits. There are special events and timing’s that just add “greatness” to the visa being granted at all and the trip ... read more

This week Kirk and I are in the capitol city of Accra. We received a phone call last week from the US Embassy asking us to come ASAP. Several weeks ago we applied for a visa for Praise to accompany us to the US this summer. At that time he was temporarily denied. For fear of “child trafficking” they wanted to do an investigation on Kirk and I as well as verify the authenticity of the paper work we submitted. Tuesday of this week, Praise was granted his visa! We have been struggling for months to process travel papers for Kwabena (our 17yr old boy). We were told by the embassy, “there is only a slight chance Kwabena will be granted a visa.” Hey “slight” works for me. It says “continue to hope” and that is ... read more
