So back on the road again but not to far from sunny England, Amsterdam this time. Not all fun and games though, I'm here to try and find a job and use Amsterdam as a base to see the nearby countries when I can. I arrived late on a wednesday night and had to try and find my hostel. After a short train journey and a quick tram I was wandering around a busy Amsterdam city centre. As I said it was only a Wednesday night but still all the bars, pubs and resturants we packed. No Economic crisis here by [View Full Entry]

So with Carnival over and about two weeks till I flew home, what better thing to do than head back to Argentina and Buenos Aires to see a certain lady friend I had met and become quite close to in Brazil. I could have flown and in hindsight should have flown but I decided on taking the bus. There is one company that runs direct buses between the two cities but unfortunately I had missed the bus for that day so decided to take separate buses all the way there. Let me give you a run down of my journey; Cabo [View Full Entry]

As you read in the last entry, we were a little unsure of where we were actually heading. All we had was a road name and that was it, also it was late in the night by now. Luckily we found a taxi driver at the bus station who at least knew where the road was so we got dropped off there and just sort of wandered around for a little bit. There was a small complex of nice new apartments so we took a stab in the dark and headed in there. We asked a woman there if she knew [View Full Entry]

Well Rio was a bit of a flying visit just two days and nights. Upon arrival from Isle Grande there was a great atmosphere and vibe around the place. Everybody in Brazil lives for Carnival, it's bigger than Christmas here, so it was all Carnival talk non stop. Buses, in the street, taxi's everywhere all you heard was Carnival, Carnival, Carnival. Strange then you might think...Why did we only stay two days and then leave the day before Carnival starts. Well because we had an apartment lined up for another city three hours away that supposedly is more the 'real carnival' [View Full Entry]

In my last blog I made the brave statement that Brazil could well rival Colombia as my favorite country in South America. At this point I have not even been to the Carnival yet and I am sure this statement is true. I am having such a good time. After reluctantly leaving Florianopolis (now traveling with an Irish guy, Conor and an English guy, Harrison) We made our way to a little old colonial town on the coast called Paraty. Basically really old cobble streets, old buildings and a big holiday destination for everybody. We found a lovely little hostel just [View Full Entry]

Well into Brazil and what a place so far. We are on an island called Florianopolis and having the time of my life. After making a reservation in a hostel only to arrive and for them to tell us they had given the reservation away, we were a little disappointed. They could see this though and offered me the TV room. So I’m actually a resident of the hostel but without a room, this though is not a problem as it's the biggest party place and I've not really been doing much sleeping anyway. Our second day on the island was [View Full Entry]

Uruguay was good to see but just too expensive and full of Argentines on holiday there. So we decided to leave and head back to Argentina through Brazil. One problem though...I had lost my exit documents for Uruguay and the official at the boarder would not do anything about it. In my Spanish I was asking him ´Well what do I do now? Stay in Uruguay for the rest of my life´ He didn’t seem to care or give me any help what so ever. After yelling and getting a little angry with him I got my exit stamp and was [View Full Entry]

Cordoba and it's near by town, Alta Gracia, have a very famous ex-inhabitant this being Che Guevara or as I learnt today Ernesto Che Guevara. Before coming here I knew very little about this man but had seen the images before on T-shirts and pretty much on everything else too. Also I thought he was Cuban until arriving in Argentina but was quick to learn, by the very proud Argentineans, that he was actually Argentinean. Once you arrive in Cordoba you realise he was and still is a big deal, the main tourist attraction of this area is a visit to [View Full Entry]

After about two weeks in Buenos Aires it was time to leave and nothing could have bettered New Years Eve anyway. We decided on Mendoza, Argentina's wine capital - over 70% of the wine produced in Argentina is grown and produced here. On arrival at out new hostel we found out they offered free wine all day every day...Perfect! Day number one here was spent recovering after the bus and just having a look around the city, then in the evening taking advantage of the free wine, which let me tell you, tastes even better when its free. Our second day [View Full Entry]

As I begin to write this the time is 16.00pm and I have just woken up from the best night out ever and the best New Years Eve ever. I'm still in Buenos Aires and everything just fell into place last night, which resulted in 4 Brazillians, 3 Swedes and myself partying til 9.00am this morning. New Years eve day itself started off quite peaceful and civilised with a nice meal out in a Chinese resturant with a bottle of wine. Then back to the hostel where the party was already in full swing. We all agreed to stay in the [View Full Entry]
