New Zealand’s spectacular scenery and it’s great outdoor activity took us from east to west, to south and at the end up north, during the 5000km drive with our perfect little sleeper van.. You have to love this country with its enormous mountain range, pristine beaches and glaciers in-between. From Palm trees to snowcapped mountains you feel like going summer to winter and back again in a few hours.. Love this country!!! In short words: New Zealand; 4,2 million people,40 million sheep, God knows how many cows, a couple of Lamas, Mountain Parrots(Kea), Penguins, Sea lions, Fur [View Full Entry]

Arrived at last at Phnom Penh after travelling the whole day on the amazing Mekong River from Vietnam. The capital of Cambodia,Phnom Penh, is a great mixture of wide boulevards with fancy restaurants and shops, and small alleys with street food and lots of locals. You also have some beautiful temples and great markets around the city. Since we’re super-tired of big cities, we tried to do most of the sightseeing in one day. So we rented a tuk tuk that took us around to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, where you see a glass tower with more than 8000 [View Full Entry]

Arrived to busy Hanoi with Air Asia from Bangkok, and where met at the airport by no more than 3 taxi drivers pretending to be our driver(had arranged free pickup from the hostel). We had read about the Vietnamese taxi mafia operating at the airport, so after some discussions, phone calls etc, we took a chance with one of them, and yes he actually took us to the right guest house, Hanoi Backpacker. A great aussi inspired backpacker in the middle of the Old Quarter..niiiice. The Old Quarter is Hanoi’s historic heart. Buzzling with street food (the Pho, noodle soup is [View Full Entry]

The REAL Golden Triangle: Laos, Myanmar (Burma) & Thailand. The tri-country border between Laos, Myanmar (Burma) & Thailand forms the legendary Golden Triangle. A mountainous frontier where the Opium poppy was once an easy cash crop for the region’s ethnic minorities. With its history, knowing the drug traffic is still going on, and the Great Mekong river as a natural border between the countries, makes it a really special place to explore. Entering Laos from China vent without problems, and quite fast comparing to other border crossings on this trip, niiice. Humping in a quite sh [View Full Entry]

After a 25 hours train ride from Shanghai we arrived to the city of Guilin. A beautiful city, situated between several lakes, rivers and great mountains. First night we ate our favorite food, spring rolls and fried noodles, and then ice cream from McDonalds…. passed through the night marked and ended up walking this really nice lighted walkway by one of the lakes. In the middle of the lake in a perfect setting we saw two gorgeous Chinese buildings lighting up the whole area.,of course they turned off all the lights the minute we sat down with a beer to enjoy [View Full Entry]

YANGTZI RIVER After exploring Xi’An, we jumped on the 3class hardsleeper overnight train. Dirty, noisy and very crowded stuff! Tired & hungry after 13 hours,we arrived Chongqing midday, and vent directly to the travelcompany where we bought our boattickets. Did some foodshopping at a huge supermarked before having a hotpot dinner by the riverside! Sat around the table and put all the food in a “boiler” in the middle of the table, and then ate all the shit we put in. Not the best dinner, but a fun experience. At last we got to the riverboat, and Øystein, Børre and Maria [View Full Entry]

Nice to finally have our own room and a clean toilet! Went out for a fantastic dinner, the table full of all different kinds of foods and we all shared like the real chinese. Took some beers in a Hutong area, and found Beijings smallest bar, 12 sqm! 8 people was as much as there was room for…. Had a great time! After 9,5 hours waiting at the border of Russia, we finally arrived to the majestetic country of Mongolia. The view from the train window gave us a feeling of wonderful, untouched nature. We passed geercamps, horses, yacks, rivers and mountains. We had a short stop in the capital, Ulaaan Baatar, took a shower and did some shopping (beers and stuff), before we headed out to the countryside for a night in geercamp. The place was amazing! Mountains, hills and lots of geers. After a huge, and very tasty lunch (we’re talking mega-super-huge,3 course lunch that is!), we went up to on [View Full Entry]
